I'm still new, but I have a few protanks and have used Kanger T3's as well.
The mini protank 2 (v2) seems to be the best of all of them IMO. I do not like the protank 3. It's airy, and easy to dry out. I do not get any unicorn-like magical flavor boost despite it having dual coils. All the protanks have wicking problems with thicker juices. (Unfortunately even 50/50's can be touchy in a protank for steady vaping) The T3's change the flavor on everything I've put in them. I swear I can taste the plastic or something burny. Those are by far the worst. PG juices run through them like a seive, VG juices don't wick well at all as it's the same coil / head design as all the rest. And they just generally make me unhappy.
I have an ego cone I throw on to control airflow, and a 510 atty and drip right on it. That's pretty much what the flavor is going to be. I've noticed the MPT2V2 removes the stainless steel / hot taste from the 510 atty. But dripping gives you the clearest taste once the atty gets saturated and up to temp.
I run an extremely potent menthol in a MPT2V2 as my daily grind and I can triple puff it, maybe 3-4 times and put it down. The protank wicks as it sits and the hits are all good. It never - leaks with that juice. (85/15VG) And it has been great on coil consumption. (I run between 8-10 watts)
Carto's DO work though. They may not be as fancy, but they WORK. They may not blow you out of your chair. But I have not had issues using strong juices in them to get by as a 'tool' to keep me from smoking. I also got the ST 5ml carto tank but haven't played with it. 5ml is A LOT of juice to dedicate to a tank, and I don't have a juice I want to dedicate to it yet.
In the end I pretty much agree. Clearo's are predominantly junk, annoying, or just plain a pain... but I do like the mini protank 2. It is a functioning tool, and seems to do it's job of daily grind duties with the least amount of annoyance.
I will be moving to RDA's and mechanicals however as I vape a lot more at home in my free time and these little clearo's and tanks aren't anything to write home about when trying new juices, or when trying to support two people vaping on it.
Also, pairing the right voltage, (or if you can't adjust voltage) the right resistance coils to the battery you are using is CRITICAL to tuning the set up for flavor. I'd venture to say even function. When a T3 floods, I just pop up the power and give the button a little bit of a hold before I hit it - then take easy drags and it clears straight away. When things get hot and dry - power goes back down. This is where a proper pairing of atomizer and battery voltage DO matter. Adjustable is really nice. Even if it's simply an Ego twist, spinner, winder, whatever. I use a Vision (ego) spinner as a back up and I just set it for what's on it and it's been great.
