What am I doing wrong here? I have been trying to clean out my carts every which way and can't seem to get the nasty - OK - burnt taste out of them. So I decide to rip one open and......burnt, cooked, charcoal. I decide to sucessively tear open one after another and find the same thing. I can't believe that I am excessively vaping to the point of spontaneous combustion but there has to be some explanation. This is only happening with the carts I am using while vaping Tasty Vapor tobacco. The carts i have been using are V4L blanks, both gold and black. Anyone here rip open a cart and find the black death inside of it? What the heck am I doing wrong here if anything? What the heck have I been vaping all along? Maybe I should take shorter drags??

I have on some occations,, that's because I had a carto that I vaped dry and didn't have liquid to refill... I pushed the limits on them trying to vape it all... in turn it burns the little wrap in the carto... and once you burn that there is no salvaging

its always best to make sure its always wet... as far as juices go some VG based mixes are really thick so you might not have gotten the carto completely wet like you thought

that's just my educated guess though :D

Ok, I should vape less, top off more. But can you blame me? I'm vaping Tasty Vapor!! Maybe I should just swap between a couple of cartos. But I never seemed to have this problem with the other juices. I have vaped all VG juice just fine before. My current mix is 30%VG. Maybe I'm leaning too heavy on my manual battery button for too long. Does anyone here have any suggestions regarding different manufacturer's carto quality? So far I have purchased all of my blanks from V4L, but I see that Midwest Vapor's are actually a better bargain. Anyone deal with them?

hmm can't remember if I ordered from midwest vapor's or not,, but I do believe they provide good service and product

I ordered my blanks from cigeasy and directly from china... they are all the same as far as blanks go if they are the current production..... NOW if V4L comes out with blank premiums that is a different carto (quailty I am unsure to comment)

90% of all my juices are from tastyvapor, including tobacco. I have not ever had an issue with cartos turning black inside. I have some that have a slightly yellow discoloration to them but most are fairly white and many of my cartos have been used since Nov of last year. It does sound that you are vaping them too dry AND that you arent cleaning them on a regular basis. I found that the taste and vapor production is reduced after about the 3rd or 4th refill. Mine go into the dirty bin and soaked for at least 20 minutes in vodka then rinsed out with hot water. I blow excess water out and let dry overnight.

If you are looking to buy more cartos, lecig just got in a shipment of the blank cartz with the new easy to remove mouthpiece. Many of my cartz are from Lecig and I am very pleased with them. In fact, just placed another order :) Hope you figure out what is happening.

Approximately what proportion of vodka to cartos would be good for each batch of cleanings? I have a ~huge~ backlog of once-used cartos I want to catch up on (like, hundreds!), and it'll probably be tempting to throw in too many cartos at once per measure of vodka! So how many at a time to how much vodka, and then should I dump and refill the vodka before putting in more cartos? Also, is 100 proof vodka best or doesn't it matter really? Tia!

I use straight vodka with the highest proof vodka i can find! I clean them weekly which amounts to the size of a med size glass baby food container. Fill it so that it covers all the cartz, put the lid on and shake it real good then let them sit for 20 minutes to an hour and shake real good before taking them out. Use fresh vodka/everclear (whichever is cheaper) each time you clean. Once tried to save and reuse and was just nasty and didnt clean the taste out of the next batch. Last, I rinse them real good with hot water and blow out excess. From my experience they need to dry 24 hrs or longer because the vapor production will not be as good if there is still some water in them.

I would cry if i had to clean 100's of cartos! lol. A med size baby food jar holds 15-20 cartz, which is about how many I use a week. Good luck and if i lived up there I would volunteer to help you clean them out.

I purchased more cartos this AM. I haven't tried the vodka cleansing method yet, but right now I'm pretty conscerned with the quality and safety of these cartos in general. I have been vaping very lightly today, shorter drags, keeping the carto topped off very often - it will only take three or four drops and even then I have to blow out the excess cause it flooded. Decided to tear it open even though I didn't detect any off flavor - which I never did to begin with with the other ones that were toast. I found burnt, black substance. This is not right !! I quit smoking and started vaping to become healthier and now I'm vaping what?? Burnt Plastic, polyfill or whatever?? Take some needlenose pliers and yank the guts out of your 808 carts and see what you find. I'm pretty upset about this to say the least.

Aw, thanks, that could have even been fun (as long as we stopped 'cleaning' before the point where cartos were bathing in bloody mary mix instead of vodka! :D)!

Yeah, I sure ain't looking forward to this; I procrastinated SO long before finally cracking this whip on myself regarding the greater efficiency and savings of filling my own. And know it would be a ridiculous waste not to take advantage of the sadly yet happily high number (we're talkin 4-5 prefilled cartos a day since early November! 8-o); clean 'em up real nice and set aside for extending my stash of 'blanks' by a ton. (The once-used ones will of course be the first ones I put into service.)

Hehe, knowing me I'll probably be explaining myself to the store clerk and anyone in line near me that I'm not actually gonna drink all those super-sized bottles of cheapest-grade high octane made! :p Uh huh, whatever you say, ma'am....

Unit40, I'm not an experienced carto tinkerer or refiller but I did want to jump in and say, keep the faith -- this CAN be figured out, if not here maybe over where carto modders and/or "ecig tech questions experts" hang out. (And pics of what you're seeing would help ppl a ton!!) Because, common sense alone will show us that this is definitely not what the thousands and thousands of carto lovers out there are running into when using proper, reasonable procedures; and it's not that many of those thousands aren't also tearing into theirs and examining and manipulating them in every possible way under the sun (or moon ;)).

So no, I feel very confident in saying that you do not need to fear that you have discovered that when vaping cartos, in very short order we are actually just vaping charred plastic, poly fill, and God knows what else. (I mean that to be encouraging! :)) I know it's not fun right now and I'm sorry you're going through this, but again, I am completely certain the real culprit in this can be identified and you'll be able to proceed happily! :thumb:

You know what? As soon as my KR808 arrived in the mail, I put away my Marlboros. I have stuck with it for two months and will never go back. no desire to. But this product which is enjoyed by myself and thousands of others should be brought up to standards. If many are vaping their cartos to the point where they get that "burning" "marshmallow" taste then they should realize they just vaped burning industrial product. That is just not acceptable. I think most people would just prefer to turn a deaf ear and make every attempt to avoid catastrophy by keeping their carto's topped off - and often. I think that there are probably many flavored e-juices that will mask the taste and smell of a toasted carto for some time. That's what i think was happening to me with the tobacco juice i have been vaping. The manufacturer and the sellers should be testing this product a little more than they have to make sure that it is safe for us. That means that the internals of a cartomizer should in no way be able to burn themselves up. I wonder how a porous ceramic filler would work. It's probably pretty obvious that my recent findings have burst my e-cig bubble.

I do hear you on that, there should be testing and QC and ultimately some fail-safe measures. But just as a point of reference, I've vaped 4-5 mls per day for months and push each carto pretty far, simply because I routinely 'over-focus' on whatever I'm doing and 'can't' tear myself away for anything much short of total battery poop out. Yet, from the time my first few days with an ecig had passed, it had become 'automatic' to stop short of any burn. I push far into flavor and vapor loss but still somehow manage without even thinking about it not to cross into burnyness, and never has one I popped the cap on turned out to be burnt. At most a tiny dark spot here or there occasionally. I'm currently not topping up, just vaping each carto til any satisfaction has clearly ended, which is farther than most go. I most often vape strong flavors as well -- tobaccos, clove, tea, capp, menthols (fruits and other drinks too but not nearly as often).

Again tho, no, I'm not implying that that's good enough as some 'permanent' standard, just giving a point of reference on your current predicament, as I imagine my own experiences are common.

But anyway, maybe for the time being as you sort things out, you could pick up some 901 atties and just drip, avoiding fillers completely for now? IIRC, 901 atties work with KR8 batts (tho the 'reverse', 901 batts w/ cartos, doesn't).

Best wishes with all this! :)

Same experience here. I also use the TV Tobacco. I top off after about four drags. I am amazed by the folks who say they get x amounts of refills. I will refill maybe 2-3 times, in addition to the top-offs. Mine are always wet, never let them get dry. I will try using one with no TV tobacco and see what that brings after 2-3 refills. The burnt ones end up being drippers after extracting the filling. So many people also use 5V devices with these, I wonder how they aren't getting burnt. If they say they are not, I'll just have to take their word for it.

WhimZ, I have been doing that all day now. maybe not after 4-5 drags, but let's say very often. i have kept the filler fully soaked, and the flavor has remained great. I did finally throw away the cap and o-ring and made the condom-mod with the little hole in it to make constant top-offs easier. I'm also preventing myself from chain'vaping. the TV tobacco tasts great at 24mg., but i may have to increase my nic-mix a little stronger if i am to vape a little less - just so that i don't start climbing the walls. Afterthought...I should be vaping less and lowering my nic intake !!!!
