Hey everyone...I just got started with my ecig a couple weeks ago and decided I wanted to make my own juices right off the bat. After many hours of reading the forums, I set myself up with 60ml of 54mg unflavored nic juice from electronicash.com, 125ml of PG and VG, and way too many flavors apprentice flavorings.

I use the ejuice calculator thing to make sure my proportions are correct and a syringe to transfer liquid. I've made 3 10ml bottles so far, so I wind up using about 3.5ml of nic juice (PG based), 3.5ml of PG, 2ml of VG, and then 1-1.5ml of flavoring. Those numbers were estimated for this post but I'm using the exact numbers the calculator is telling me to use to get an 80/20 PG/VG mix @ 18mg nicotine strength.

My problem is that all 3 juices that I have made so far have this really nasty harsh taste to them that I cannot stand. I've made mango, spearmint, and blueberry waffle and they all have this distinct strong flavor that kinda burns my nose.

Tonight I did an experiment and put 1ml of PG in a dropper and 2 drops of FA Blueberry extra. Vaped it and I didn't get that same nasty taste.

Does this mean the nic juice I got is bad? Or am I just not using enough flavoring? Even though I have gone as high as 20% AND used 3-5 drops of sweetner to no avail.

Hoping someone could shed some light on this for me because I have quite a lot of supplies and i really wanna make the juice myself yet I'm having a hard time vaping any of this stuff and have been sticking to the pre-made bottles of menthol, ry4, and double chocolate that I ordered with my ecig. I don't taste anything near the nasty taste with those that I get with my DIY stuff.

Sorry for the long post and thanks for any suggestions you have for me.

I do think that you over exagerated with flavor. I tend to use 2.5% (1drop/2ml) flavoring on PA Tobacco ans Dk-tab (stronger falvors) and 5% (1drop/1ml) for less strong flavours like PA ry4, some of TW black label range, etc.
Recipe: 10ml of unflavoured juice, any mg strength, any pg-vg combination + 5 drops of PA dk-tab + 3 drops of PA Bav Cream.
If you add too much flavor you will get chemical taste, and you're going to desensibilize your taste buds and feel less flavor, so you will increase the flavor and enter a vicious cycle.

Best wishes.

xtremevaping was highly regarded when I started and whom I got mine from. Although I have nothing to compare to, I believe this company is pretty good. The price is well enough you could just bite the bullet.

Could also be what you're vaping with. When I started I found different recipes were harsher with different atomizers, and it always seemed to vary. I don't notice this so much anymore, perhaps I adapted.

Oddly enough I found the opposite though, no matter what, my recipes always came in less harsh and bitter than the premade stuff. I have a bunch of premade TONIC USA bottles I can't touch if I want to vape all day without destroying my throat.

I would down mix the 54mg Nicotine base with PG:VG to what ever you are going to vape at, 18mg?, and then try it. If it tastes really harsh then it is your 54mg Nicotine base.

I get my Nicotine Base from xtremevaping.com also and it is not harsh at all. A tad peppery but not harsh.

You could also be using too much flavoring without and sweetener. I like Sucralose as sweetener myself. I also do not start a DIY recipe with more than 10% flavoring. Easier to add flavor a drop or two at a time then it is to dilute an over flavored e-Liquid.

So far I've just mixed some PG and flavoring without the nic juice and didn't get harshness. I guess I'll try nic and PG without flavoring tonight and see how that goes.

Let us know what you find.

NOTE: Many people who buy Very High Nicotine bases, Higher than 36mg, down mix the Nicotine Base as soon as they get it to something more workable.

54mg Nicotine Base should be handled with Caution. ie: Gloves and Eye Protection.

What's the benefit of downmixing though? Is it just so that you can add your flavoring and be done with it everytime you want to make a new batch?

That is one, and a huge benefit to down mixing. The other is that one only have to handle the High Nicotine base once.

Nicotine can be absorbed thru the skin very easily. Even I would want to wear gloves when working around 54mg Nicotine base. And if I'm going to wear gloves, I only want to have to do it once.

I vape 18mg e-Liquid. So If I buy 50 or 100mg Nicotine Base, I get out the Gloves and the Graduated Cylinders and down mix to 20mg the Entire Nicotine Base.

Now I have 20mg so when I add DIY flavors and Sweeteners to it, it ends up at about 18mg.

Ok I just mixed about .33ml of the 54mg nic juice and was aiming for about .67ml of PG but i put about 5-10 extra drops of it in there. I'm definitely tasting that nasty taste but not as strong as before. Possibly because I added some extra PG I guess.

I suppose my only option right now is to order nic juice from another vendor and hope that's what the problem is. Otherwise im not sure what to do.

Thanks for all the help!
