I'd ask your friend if it happened to him... If it did, it's the mod, if not you may need to investigate the state of your batteries/charger, and the battery forum is a great place to do that. It's certainly possible they weren't quite fully charged. You could also investigate the battery ports and see if they need to be cleaned, then try replacing the batteries. Frayed wraps aren't good, so if you do replace your batteries you want to be sure you are getting a good battery, not a rewrap. People will likely make suggestions as to specific vendors.

Good Luck!

Anna

I hate those "everything was fine until it wasn't" moments. Generally.

Hmmmm........

"Yours got fried." "Your friend gave you his" at least indicating he was not overly fond of it. "Batteries starting to fray." Not good signs.

Strongly consider acquiring a new mod and batteries soon, very soon. Then, by all means, do some testing on this mod and see if you can get it working properly for a back-up.

@OlderNDirt beat me to it--on all counts (we older dudes tend to think alike).

That setup doesn't sound safe or reliable--especially not the batteries. Abusing or mismatching them to the equipment can have disastrous consequences.

Get some new gear and match the cells to the job they'll do.

Welcome and glad you joined. I know this may be a lot to get through but it may save a life.
