Ok all, I do have a question. I have seen some threads on side effects etc, but thought I would put this out anyway since my symptoms are pretty annoying after 2 weeks still.
I started directly with VG since I heard some reacted to PG. And honestly for all I know, I might be allergic to nicotine! Ha! But goodness, my nose is so stuffy and runny, and I am sneezing quite a bit.
Has anyone else had this happen? Suggestions? Thoughts?

Hi Cyn,

I am by no means an expert on electronic cigarettes nor liquids or anything of the sort for that matter. I am a novice myself. However, I'm a nurse and for what it's worth...

Mucous from allergies (sorry if that's gross) is generally clear. If it's something else, it can be indicative of bacterial infection.

Secondly, barring allergies to the medication, try taking a Benadryl 25mg capsule. If the troubling symptoms are abated, the assuredly you are allergic to something. However, that doesn't mean it is VG or PG necessarily. If you feel like you've confirmed your prediction of allergic reaction keep doing everything the same, but cut out suspected causes one per week until the culprit is identified. (something akin to what they call an elimination diet if you're up for some googling).

I'm not sure exactly how the juices are manufactured and what all components go into them in what percentages (I think this is information that should be printed on anything containing a drug). I'm still researching that myself. It could be that another juice would not cause the same reaction. I can't say.

What I can say, however, is that barring anaphylaxis, the e-cigarette is by far healthier than the analog. Though, perhaps healthier is a biased term and I should say not as unhealthy as the analog. Hope that is of some help.

You can be sensitive (allergy is quite definite and obvious - usually projectile vomiting, hives, fainting etc) to pretty much anything so yeah it COULD be a VG sensitivity but isn't it more likely you have a cold? I doubt its nic sensitivity - you smoked cigs.
I know after I gave up smoking (which was not when I stared vaping btw) my nose felt stuffed up and I felt 'under the weather' for a couple of weeks. It was as if every virus out there had paid a visit for some reason. It passed, though I have noticed my allergies, which were mild, are more annoying now Im a non smoker. I use a neti pot if it gets TOO annoying, and that helps a lot.
I have a cold right now, but its not a 'bad cold' its just annoying - like I have HALF the usual symptoms (the silly weak cough thats neither dry nor wet and therefore hard to treat), the stuffy nose but not the rest of it Id get if I still smoked - when every cold felt like full blown flu. The only part I really hate is that it really affects my tastebuds (aka sense of smell) so nothing I eat or vape tastes right.
I know it will pass, and its nowhere near as bad as it would have been if I was a smoker still but..ugh..annoying.

I ordered VG from electronic-cigz.com and received it on Friday. I find it makes me have a perma lump in my throat, you know you try to swallow it and it won't go away. Has anyone else experienced this? I have been reading the posts but haven't come across anything.

Hmmm, I don't recall ever reading about such a reaction to vaping but I'm not saying it's not possible either. If I were you and it continues I would definitely seek medical attention.

To the OP (Original Poster), there have been more than a few members who have discovered that their nose is runnier using VG than PG. Strangely however, for me it is just the opposite (but I'm weird anyway).

You can run a experiment. Try vaping just vg , then try just pg and note any differences.
Try to leave flavorings out of the equation. It could possibly be a certain flavoring or additive causing it.
I've gotten sensitive to PG and it shows as hive's, redness, itching, swelling etc.
It sound's like it may just be stopping smoking/starting vaping possibly. I remember my throat bugged me like I had a lump in it the first week.
Also make sure to drink alot no matter which one you use.

Sean from electronic-cigz.com suggested that maybe the nic level is too high for me(18mg), which would makes sense as I seem to get the same symptom from the PG that I purchased at 14mg only not as bad and it goes away quicker. Anyway he suggested diluting the juice with the 0mg which I am definately going to try! So far I have found the customer service from suppliers to be outstanding!

Happy Mothers Day!:)

Well I pretty much decided I was o.d.'ing on the nic. I was using 25mg but found myself vaping more and more just cause it was fun. ;)
So I cut it with vg and that helped tone down the symptoms. Of course it also cut the flavor. boo!
So I ordered some 0mg flavored juice to cut some of my other juices with.
Ok this is actually kinda fun. Except for all the mouthpieces full of different flavor juices, how am I going to keep track of all this? ;)

Oh, BTW, thanks for all your replies. :)

to the OP: it seems like you may just have a case of allergies IMHO. i get the same symptoms if i don't remember to take a Zyrtec or any other OTC allergy medication. although, i will say that my allergies have improved since i've quit smoking. vaping doesn't trigger the sneezing fits that lead to a runny & stuffy nose that smoking used to for me.

i don't have an allergy to PG, but i prefer VG based liquids since i love the vapor production. i have noticed that lump-the-throat feeling too. it's almost feels like you swallowed a pill and it just got stuck in your throat. it's really not that bothersome to me...i just try to keep myself hydrated and i feel fine.

Well after much research I have found that many experience the lump in the throat feeling as a symptom of quitting smoking. I have also read that the larynx is quite susceptible to dehydration. People have also commented on the throat becoming extremely sore8-o....so with that I have come to the conclusion that vaping is just irritating my already sore dry larynx and these symptoms just happened to start when I tried the VG, I have read that VG drys you out more than PG. There are also similiar symptoms between nic overdose and the quitting smokes which can get rather confusing when your trying to sort out what is going on with all the crap one is feeling!

I've been vaping for 2 weeks today (and it's been that long since I quit cigarettes as well!). Since moving to Northern California, I've been dealing with seasonal allergies before vaping and I still am. I notice that sometimes when I vape (while having allergies) that my nose all of a sudden stuffs up. I believe it's because of the allergies I already have and can't wait until the allergy season is over for me. The first week of vaping/not smoking was rough on my throat and I had a burning sore throat and the lump in the throat feeling that people describe when first quitting smoking and start vaping. What I finally realized (for me) is that I was drinking less liquids (I would say water, but usually I drink a lot of soda) because vaping did not make me as thirsty as cigarettes did. I used to drink more Mountain Dew than anybody in the world as a smoker, now I was finding myself dehydrated and realized I wasn't taking in enough liquids. I have started making myself drink lots of water and whatever liquids I can get down and the throat issues have subsided. :2c:

By the way, since starting vaping, I have not craved a cigarette much and I actually vape less than I smoke. As a pack and a half a day smoker, I bought a lot of vaping supplies to prepare, and now realize they will last me much longer than anticipated! :2cool:

Let me tell you, it's the VG! Last year I was able to use it for almost a month before my sinuses were totally clogged...I recently starting using VG again (almost 2 weeks) and my sinuses are starting to get clogged AGAIN.. (has nothing to do with nicotine b/c I was using zero nic)

You and I might just be sensitive to it..
