I coughed for almost 6 months after I quit smoking and started vaping as my lungs cleared all the gunk out. Easiest wy to check for a pg or vg allergy is to swab some (nicotine free) 100% pg and vg onto sections of the underside of your forearm and cover them with a large bandage. If you do show an allergy to either, you will get reddening and possibly a rash (I did this to check for a wool allergy with a swatch of pure wool and I broke out in an itchy rash after an hour or so)

It's more than likely your lungs acclimating to a new substance. As long as you're breathing isn't becoming labored with noticable wheezing or worse (like your throat trying to close up) I wouldn't be too worried. If you do notice other symptoms manifest, or your coughing becomes worse, definitely keep up with your allergist and primary care physician.

Hi! I am new and need some advice. Last year around September, I started Vaping. I LOVED it!. I started with 60/40 VG/PG 10mg nicotine, and went down to 70/30 VG/PG and 3mg nicotine. The coughing was horrible (the local juice guy said the cough would subside...never did) and between that time and January 2017, I battled 5 chest infections finishing up being in the hospital with pneumonia. I have since quit vaping and I haven't been sick once. I went to an allergist, and she came up with some food allergies (nuts being one of them) along with a few others. I'm trying to decide if should try vaping again b/c I loved the taste and it was less expensive. My question is, which of, if not both, am I allergic to? How can I figure it out? Any help, suggestions, comments would be appreciated!! Thanks so much!
If you are going to try again, then I would try two extremes, high pg first since you coughed your head off on high vg. The suggestions to get allergy tested for pg and vg are smart if they can test for those. I don't agree at all that it's ok to cough a lot for months vaping is ok or normal, I think they just built up a tolerance to something their body didn't like. Your body is saying I don't like this, so listen to it. The Mayo Clinic says a cough may last several weeks after qutting smoking as your lungs clear, not months. I coughed when I smoked, and in only a few days rarely coughed after starting vaping. I Vaped 70pg/30 vg and now at 80pg/20vg two years, high vg makes me wheezy as it does many with Copd or asthma though a few are the opposite regarding pg vs vg. Also it could be the flavoring - try something else and see. Good luck and listen to your body :)
