The firing pin on my fairly new reo grand LP is kinda wobbly. It seems to engage quicker and with a shorter down stroke when pushed toward the atomizer. Is there something I could/should be doing to correct this? I should mention that it has an aluminum button cover, but that item is securely in place.

Thanks so much for any info, you guys are the very best!

I've never run into that before. The way the pin inserts, there's no adjustment you can do. It sounds like maybe the pin in yours is on the lower end of the spec tolerance and is therefore not quite as stable as it could be, just a guess on my part. Robs QC is second to none, I'm sure if it were an issue it wouldn't have shipped.

That being said, I'm sure anyone who may have experienced this will pop in soon, as well as the mod father himself, for more input. I do know that Rob will take care of any issues so don't worry.

Also, I wouldn't take it apart until you talk with Rob in case there may be an issue with a batch of firing pins. He would probably want to see it for himself. Once again, this is just my :2c:

Remove the screw that holds the delrin cover on, and slide the cover down as far as you can, and see if the end of the feeder tube is tight up against the firing pin.

There is the possibility of the contact being loose that may cause the issue, I was thinking it sounded like the pin itself was rocking.

This isn't a huge deal, it just feels a little... hinky?

Could even be my thumb that's wobbly. The way I hold it, my thumb wants to move toward the RM2 naturally.

I'm going to just take the cover off and have a look.

Thanks for the quick response.
Be careful if you take it apart. When you replace the Delrin cover, it's easy to strip the long screw that holds it on. Don't tighten it too much. It screws right into the back wall of the aluminum body. Once it's stripped, it'll never be the same.

+1 on the delrin cover screw, just BARELY snug is all you want, resist the urge to give it one last tweak, hold the screwdriver with a finger and thumb when you do it.

That said, it sounds like the nipple (I know, I know :) ) isn't snugged up against the 510 connector shaft. It screws into place on the shaft (snicker), but when it's assembled, you need to grab it with a pair of needle nose pliers, and tighten the 510 into it with a flat blade screwdriver. This one, you DO want snug. If it's not tightly screwed on, the firing pin will wobble.

ETA: If you try to rotate the firing pin on the 510 shaft, there should be some resistance. If it moves easily, then the nipple isn't tightly screwed onto the shaft.

Great advice this. Still makes me giggle, tho :)

The tongue of the firing pin is locked between the lip and the nipple when you screw it

Speaking of nipples and screwing, how about a picture.

Edit: make sure the insulator is not caught, you want a good electrical connection.

Sounds to me like your button cover isn't on properly, that would interefere w/the action of your button. JMHO

With the button cover off, how is the action?

Putting those covers on too deep onto the button, or too shallow, will totally mess up the action when you press it down. It's simple to fix, and I would certainly not be opeining up the mod until I solved the "simplest thing" first.
