Ugh.... my wife has had a hard time getting into vaping, she keeps getting headaches & heartburn... I think we got the heartburn under control, but the headaches are still a problem.

Anyhow - point is she came home from work and told me she bought a pack of analogs today. I'm not about to begrudge her that... just makes it harder on me because now I have a pack of cigarettes sitting in the house.

I told her next time don't tell me.

EDITED TO ADD:
Just to be clear - I have not smoked one.
I have however been vaping like a fiend.

Has she upped her water intake? How are the nicotine levels? Try going up one level and down one level...

Picked up a carton of analogs for Mom, since I've been "bumming" one an evening. Swiped a pack for me... they are gonna be soooooo stale if/when I get to the end of the pack which is a good thing, right?

I've been hammering her on the water intake - she claims she's can't possibly drink anymore water or she'll spend all day on the toilet.
:)

As far as nic level - she started at 16mg (bc it was the only juice we had).
From there she went to 12..then eventually 6-8mg. Once she went to that lower level the heartburn subsided.

As far as the headaches go - it's weird...seems to come on very quickly after vaping. When I say quickly, I mean within 1-2 minutes of taking a drag. I just today got the rest of the supplies I needed to run some tests with her... so I'm going to try pure VG, pure PG, no nic, no flavor, etc etc...until we can figure it out.

And in the meantime I'm going to try my best not to have one of those analogs. I know full well that if I do I'm going to hate the taste, the feeling, and then feel guilty for having smoked it..... but you know what it's like.

WOO HOO!!!

So I just did the math.... and even though my banner says differently... TODAY is the day that I've actually broken even since quitting.

I actually started vaping on 2/15/10 (but was still smoking one or two a day for a bit). The date on my banner is the date I last had an analog. My banner also doesn't take into account how much money we were spending on my wife's habit...

SO... with all that added in, today is the day I broke even.
From here on out vaping is only saving us money (on top of having helped me avoid over 1300 cigarettes to date - 501 being since the last time I had one).

I can't possibly tell you all how happy I am right now.
This is the best thing that has happened to us in years.

Thanks to everyone here who has helped us make the transition.
I'm doing what I can to pass that along by helping a few other smoking friends make the transition right now... so far I've introduced 5 friends to vaping, and 4 of those are making the switch.
:)

Oh - on another note - I got to the bottom of the headache issue with my wife.
Believe it or not it seems like it was a reaction to VG.

I doubted it until I ran a blind study on her myself - I gave her nothing but PG to vape and she had no problems. Next I gave her nothing but VG to vape, and she got a headache within 5 minutes.

I tried that a few times, and it happened every time.
Without flavoring, with 0 nic, VG gave her a headache every time within a few minutes.

So, at least we got to the bottom of that.
She's now happily vaping PG based liquid and has had no problems since.

You don't have to wait until you break even. Think about all the money in medical bills you're saving. And even if that wasn't the case, even if vaping cost more, just think about how much that healthier life is worth. Think about how much longer the people that love you will have you around. That really is priceless.

I hear that, for sure.:thumb:

Just another post to say that we've broken even on all our ecig expenditures now (after getting us both eGos, some DIY juice supplies, etc etc etc). Even though my banner says I need 16 more days to break even, it's not taking into account what we used to spend for my wife's cigarettes...

So, in honor of breaking even, being off cigarettes completely for the first time in 17 years, and to thank this fantastic site, I just became a supporting member of the site for the next year, and I would urge anyone that hasn't done so yet and was able to quit with the help of the information here to do the same. I've said it before, and I'll say it again, ECF may have very well saved my life.

So thanks to all of you here - and thanks to the mods and admins that keep this place running. You guys all rock.

I had one of the best moments last night ....
I went into the convenience store to pick up some stuff - I hadn't gone into this place in over a month or so (you can only imagine that I used to go in there daily).

The guy behind the counter recognized me, and instinctively turned around and grabbed two packs of Camel Lights off the shelf... I laughed, realizing he hadn't seen me in a long time, and told I didn't need them. He looked confused for a second, then asked "Really? Did you quit?"

Wow - it felt so good to tell him to put those cigarettes back on the shelf.
And it wasn't tempting in the least.

I've never felt better in my entire life than I did in that moment.

Well done, & yes it DOES mean a lot to others beside you!

I have not even received my first kit & juices yet (should be tomorrow if they don't get held up in customs) but as a 40-a-day, & quit-a-few-times-but-missed-the-ritual-too-much smoker, reading success stories like yours gives me hope that this may be my final analog quit attempt.

Great to hear, & keep up the good work! :)

feebee - I hope things go as well for you as they did for me. I feel like saying that if e-cigs worked for me they can work for anyone. I smoked for the better part of 40 years and truly enjoyed it right till the end. I tried e-cigs only because smoking in our society is growing more stigmatized and wanted something to get me over the hump while at work. A week or so after getting my first 510 I'd dropped the analogs completey because I didn't need them anymore.

Like justsomeguy stated earlier in this thread I may owe this forum my life, or at minimum a much improved life. So I became a supporting member myself yesterday.

I added the banner to my sig as a self-support device. Every time I see it I'm reminded of just how many cigarettes I HAVEN'T smoked. It's a great reminder!

So... I think I'm finally going to say that I have quit smoking cigarettes.
I honestly have no interest in smoking an analog ever again.

I'm bumping this incredibly old thread just to say how happy I am that I can bump this incredibly old thread.

It's getting close to a year since I originally started vaping (about 3 weeks until the 1 year anniversary of getting my first 510). I'm thrilled to be able to say that the analog I mentioned in my first post is STILL the last analog I've smoked.

Honestly, i'm still in shock.
I have a hard time believing both that I ever smoked that much... and that I've been able to quit.

This site is responsible for it - and I'm still grateful. I haven't been around as much as I was when I started because I found myself getting a bit too caught up in the e-cig gadgets... but I think I'm over the beginner's giddiness now. Hopefully I can lend even a fraction of the support to others that was lent to me.

If you're reading this - and you are considering trying vaping, and haven't yet... just try it.
It might work for you - it might not. All I can tell you for certain is that it has literally changed my life.... as well as possibly saving it.

Now if you'll excuse me, I have an atty to finish cleaning.
:)

congrats on that soon to be one year anniversary. I can totally relate to your story by the way. About 1.5PAD for 22 years, tried everything to quit with no success over the years. Finally when I turned to vaping I said the same as you, I'll be happy to just cut back. I never really thought I would quit. Well, since october 2010 i have been a vaper. I had 2 drags of a cigarette on New Years Eve. Didn't really even want it, but I thought hey its new years eve, have one "for old times sake". Well like i said, 2 drags, and it tasted horrible. Never Again. I am so thrilled to be an EX smoker! Its great isn't it?

Congrats, it's been 35 days for me, I got the e-cigs as a replacement for analogs. It seemed like it would work unlike nic gum or the patch because it replaced the habit part of smoking. It's worked great and I feel so much better already. I smoked for 26 years and quit cold turkey once for 5 months 10 years ago but never thought I could quit again. Now I don't feel like I could smoke an analog again. I've had 0 analogs since I opened my e-cig box the night I got it in the mail.
