Due to all the shortcomings and drawbacks with the typical e-Cig, I was wondering about alternative vaping devices. I have read a number of posts about the Iolite, which looks fantastic.

I am also curious about something solid for home use. I have friends who own digital models similar to these (pic below), but have no idea how well they would work for liquid, as nobody I know uses them for liquid...

Seems like they would be a pretty solid way to go for home use.

Has anybody tried this type of unit for e-liquid? Does it have to be used with a pad or cotton?

Has anybody had success with other alternative type units?

Seems like these would almost be worthy of a dedicated forum - it's kinda hard to find info on them...

I looked into these and am by no means an expert, but did get the basic gist of them. I think both are best used with loose tobacco. They vaporize at a higher temperature, so I do not know if they would work properly with eliquids.

The drawbacks I saw to the Iolite is that because it has an internal butane heating system and uses tobacco, it may not allow you to circumvent the no smoking laws, based on how your states laws are worded. Also, most of the internal components are plastic and there are fears that it would break easily and complaints about a burnt plastic taste they get when using it. But some reviewers loved it.

I think the problem is trying to combine lightweight portability with higher temperature required. There are some that allow you to use a separate butane lighter, but there are questions as to whether it is truly resulting in vaporization.

As for the home model, these come highly recommended for health reasons, and they recommend ones similar to those in the pictures above. But they do recommend you get the type that has a ceramic heating element. There is one called the Volcano which is supposed to be the Rolls Royce of vaporizers, but also has a Rolls Royce price tag.
