I just had my first build ever this weekend, a RSST Genesis for my ProVari v2. And it's been going great, I've rebuilt it three more times since Saturday just for practice and tweaking. But I find my biggest problem is getting it to a good ohm range. I was sitting at 1.7 all night, then bumped it while cleaning and it started reading 1 ohm. So I rebuilt the coil completely three times, with the totals ranging from 1 ohm to 1.3 ohms. I found 5 wraps seemed to do me good in the prior builds, but it didn't help. I bumped up to 7 wraps and it shot up to 1.2-1.3. The problem being there isn't enough wick to do 10+ wraps. The wick extends over the top of the post, which leads to another question... is there any way to raise up the post on the RSST? I find it shrinks everything up, making a tighter area for the wraps. I'm still new to all of this so I'm unsure of best practices.
When I do the wraps, I put the RSST on the ProVari and spin it making sure it's a nice tight fit. I've even tried moving around some of the wraps with a screwdriver because I found in a prior build sometimes it helped increase the ohms. Not sure if this is right or wrong.
I'm using 30g kanthal.
