So I recently purchased an RSST and have been fiddling around with it the past few days. Mainly just rebuilding coils to see what works and what doesn't. What I like and what I don't.
I've found that I can pretty much only have a wrap of 3/2 with 30G Kanthal and have it stay consistent and not develop hot spots and what not. That wrap normally gauges out to about a .9 to 1.1 ohm. Which I am okay with.
I had attempted to just do a 2/1 wrap to go for lower ohms around .6ohm, and I keep getting hotspots and I just can't seem to work them out. Also I adjust everything on a battery around 3.7V and then I switch out to a fully charged battery and the coil just pops.

Any suggestions? Something you feel like I'm doing wrong?
If you need me to be more specific, please let me know.

Using an RSST SS #400 mesh with 30g Kanthal wire on a K100 with AW IMR 18490 one at 3.7 the other fully charged.

Thanks!

Oh, well as far as popping wires goes. That's a nother story. Usually hot spots are an issue of tension. (wire too tight on some sections of your wrap). Thicker wire may not pop, but it will vape like crud. So, need to fix the build. Pictures (in-focus, close-up) of dry wick and glowing wire are a great diagnostic tool. Can you post some?

26g Nichrome is my favorite. BUT this has to do with desired resistance! I liked a .6Ω coil on a Genny. 30g is ideal for VV devices. 28g is nice for mechanicals. None of them will serve well if the build is bad. The fatter gauges will be more forgiving during set-up. They won't pop as readily, and will give you more time to adjust tension and such.
