Always get burnt taste when swapping for a freshly charged battery?

This has always perplexed me and I can't find any threads dealing with this issue so I thought I'd try and get some solid answers here.

On both my 801 and 901 kits, any time I have a battery go dead and I attach a new battery with a full charge, it gives me that damn burnt taste for a while, and I just don't understand why. I understand that the voltages over the life cycle of a battery's charge varies and that a battery will put out a bit more voltage when freshly charged than one that is nearly dead, but it shouldn't be enough of a difference that it makes everything taste like crap, right? I mean I hear of people using mods that vape as high as 7.5v, so a freshly charged battery peaking at 4.2 surely should not cause things to taste like melting plastic, should they? I just don't get it.

And I'm also getting really frustrated with carts needing topped off constantly because that friggin burnt taste comes back after a few puffs. I understand that this could be a sign that an atty is dying, but I've got a pile of brand new attys that all do the same thing, and continue to do so and show no signs of dying, they just perpetually taste like burnt hair after several hits.

I've tried everything, doubling up cart filler, using tea bags, etc... But nothing seems to work as well as I remember things worked when I first got my 801 and got off analogs. So what the hell is up with that? Please someone tell me I'm not crazy and that 801's used to really taste great for a long time, like more than 12 drags.

GRRRR!

I don't have the answer, but the one time my 510 did this it started the day before the atty went out, total burnout, read nothing on the ohm meter, the other three I have read 2.6 ohms. Might check the ohm reading. There was a post somewhere where someone listed ohm readings for different attys. Just a thought, don't know if it will help.

same thing happens with cartomizers sort of. If I wait till it's blinking and needs charged the cart is burnt. If I anticipate the need for charge even by minutes and switch devices no problem. I thought it was a cart thing. Guess not.

Check to see if the end of the mouthpiece toward the atty is being melted - some atty bridges are off center and hit the edges. If the primer fluid is completely gone you shouldn't be getting that.

Nope, I've never seen any mouthpieces come close to getting melted. It's sad because I actually miss the primer fluid taste compared to this crap. I mean I know I can fix it if I keep topping it off every 1/2 a cigarette's worth, but that's horsesh*t. WTF is the 801 cart so big for (holds around 24 drops) if you can only vape about 2-3 drops worth without having to refill?????? No ... wicking going on at all, no matter what I use for filler and it's really pissing me off now. The only way I can possibly get a tad more out of a cart is by holding the 801 where the battery end is facing the ground, but that looks kinda ......ed and puts me at risk of ruining a battery from leakage.

I don't know, I have heard people mention that 801 and 901 carts don't wick like they used to, I just wish I could figure out what the difference is between old and newer carts if this is true. I wish there was a way to just mount a 30ml bottle directly to the atomizer and carry around a huge dong looking device but at least enjoy the vaping like I used to rather than constantly messing with it to try and get rid of that damned burnt hair taste.

rawr

My frustration has gotten so bad I can't even let out a good rawr anymore. :(

I have a 510 and haven't experienced that. I suppose other 801/901 people are best to reply on this. Perhaps it's part of their experience too but really haven't read a lot of posts on that here from others.

I've experienced this with my manual 801 and typically topping off a little corrects it. I think the new battery just has more juice and for that reason needs a little more juice to get going. No biggie for me.

As far as your carts needing topping off all the time, I recommed the straw mod, it has worked really well for me as far as clearing more juice out of the cart.

Good advice. I have the mod in almost all of my carts but I just got some JC tennessee cure and got a new cart without the mod and am topping off constantly... ;-) Good stuff though!

Interesting topic, I've experienced the same thing but on a m401.

If I had to take a guess, I'd say it has something to do with your liquid. Your atomizer is getting gunked up quickly, then when you put a fresh battery in it the extra bit of power from it causes it to burn off a little.

I was also getting the burnt taste with multiple quick drags so it was obviously burning something on the coil.

Try another liquid vendor and see what happens, even better if you can clean the atomizer with the burn method to get that junk off there before you put the new stuff in.

I've tried the straw method, even with a metal syringe needle, and didn't notice any improvement at all, but thanks for the suggestion.

Hey Baba...Its probably that cheap Liquid:rolleyes: your using...;)

I haven't even gotten that liquid yet. But it's funny that you're dissing it since you use the same stuff, along with 95% of everyone else out there vaping.

so you are getting the bad burning flavor from a brand new atomizer?

As I said before, I get the primer taste for a while from a brand new one and then eventually as the primer wears off, I start getting the burnt taste if I'm not constantly topping off.

That was what I was thinking last night, that maybe the DIY ingredients I've got are somehow causing it, so I just made a fresh batch of DIY with no PG added, only VG. Hopefully that will do better because the batch of VG-free DIY liquid I made last night still gave the same burning taste as I vaped to the point of needing a topoff. And the time it took to need a topoff was about the same, something like 8-10 drags. I'll use the VG batch today and report my findings.

EDIT: Last night I did a clean burn that took forever but I got my atty to where it was no longer producing ANY vapor at all, like it had burned off everything completely, then I started testing the VG-free batch, but results weren't so good.

Well it does sound like something in the liquid more so now. Interesting that the PG mix caused issues so fast. From what I've seen on the cleaning topics VG gums up much quicker. Anyway, could be something in the flavoring? How is the color of your finished liquid? The wicking problem may be related too. Could the liquid be too think? Maybe try thinning it out a bit with some distilled water.

I'm just tossing ideas out there.. I know how frustrating it is to get that taste. I was almost ready to give up the e-cig when mine started doing it. I think I had some bad liquid... so far so good on the new atomizers with the new stuff though.

Hope you get it figured out!
