Am I doing something wrong?

I don't know if there is a right way or a wrong way to vape, so I'm going to ask. Can't find anything useful in the search feature. I have now gotten my setup, VV/VW Aspire with BVD (maybe it was BVC). Getting plenty of vapor out of them, but was wondering, should I be vaping like I used to smoke, or just hold the vapor in my mouth? The times I have tried to inhale, I ended up coughing up a lung. Holding it in my mouth, I feel like I'm getting nothing. I am planning on doing DIY liquid, and even trying the WTA I have heard so much about to help me kick analogs, but as to actually vaping, what should I be doing?

Several websites I have gone to switch back and forth on this subject so I'm totally confused now.

If you inhale to your mouth only and exhale through your nose, you'll definitely be getting something.

It's my understanding that plenty of folks find vapor to make them cough at first. Generally, with a few days of experimenting, you find a good technique, and acclimate. Vaping is far more complicated than smoking, and many things might cause a harsher experience than you'd like. Too much PG compared to VG, too little airflow, drawing too forcefully, or too high of a nicotine content seem to be several common culprits. It can be tricky to narrow it down, if you're not finding yourself getting used to it!

mouth to lung
beathe out through nose

when you stop smoking, your lungs get a break from the tar, and the hair like cilia in the lungs start to become unstuck and over a period of the next few weeks and months you find yourself coughing more as the cilia flicks gunk upwards for you to spit out.

I was lucky in that mouth to lung was always how I smoked my cigarettes over the last 40 years. I draw the vapor into my mouth and then inhale, mixing with air as I inhale it. Most recommend this as the best way to vape. I didn't realize that there was any other way to do it.

However, my wife had difficulty for the fir few days. It seems that she was a straight to lung smoker and she had trouble learning a new way when she started vaping.

Funny, we never discussed this over our 40 years of smoking...but learned something new about each other when we started vaping. I thought I knew everything about her after 39 years of marriage...wonder what other "secrets" she's hiding.

You will discover that devices vary in theway they deliver vapor. Some have a tighter draw, others are looser. Some are airy mixing in more air with the vapor. Some even have airflow adjustments. Battery strength, coil resistance, and liquids all can effect the harshness of the vapor in your throat and lungs.

Keep experimenting and you'll find what is right for you.

I am vaping exactly as I was smoking - mouth first, then lungs. I am six month veteran (smile face belongs here, but I never used one) but I still have a problems in the morning. It's too harsh for me before breakfast and often even after breakfast. To have a smooth vape I need a drink (or two), but I can afford it only once in a week (and only if my wife is not looking). Go figure...
But I am still an enthusiastic vaper.
