I'm not trying to talk you out of upgrading, most people including myself upgrade to more advanced devices a couple of times. Racehorse seems to be an exception to the rule and appears to actually be regressing.* I was bringing up the point about coils because it's something that can be overlooked by new vapers and I didn't see it mentioned. If you haven't changed them yet I would be surprised if they're not mostly shot by now, if you have changed them recently then you can ignore that advice.

*I kid, I kid. Actually I think it's great that Racehorse is phasing out vaping, I'm not sure when or if I'll get to that point myself but I'm all for it.

I have recently changed coils in both rigs. I should have mentioned that earlier. The Tornado is better for me because it's not as airy, but yet, I still feel like if I could use the comparison, 'smoking light ciggs'. I am keeping my expectations low. Even as I have been writing these posts I really tried to pay attention to how my current setups were performing. The Tornado will chuck a decent amount for what it is, but that's with a long draw. The Aspire CE5, that airy beast, I can get a satisfying hit if I plug one of the 2 air holes, and hold the button down so long it starts to flash. Today for the first time I would let up on the button and quickly re-press it in mid-draw just to get a satisfying amount. I suppose I could change the 3 day old coil again to see if the pattern continues.

I was thinking today Brettanomyces, and was wondering (as silly as it sounds) what the life cycle of a coil is. A typical coil that would go into a basic eGo setup like I have. Strong at first, then slowly diminishes? Or strong to dead with no noticeable drop in performance? Probably an uninteresting question, I know. Should coils that are a bit long in the tooth be washed out and cleaned up? Will that make a difference?

When I started vaping protanks a coil might last about a week before it tasted so bad it had to change.
Eventually I settled into a pattern of running a coil for about 3 days before putting to soak; no point vaping expensive juice on a degraded coil

They go slowly, it's the sort of thing where you might not even be sure that it needs changed and then when you do it ends up making a big difference. Some people do clean them out with water, vodka, or pga and then let them dry but I never had much luck doing that with the coils for my nautilus mini. I would check if people had done it with the specific coils I was using before doing it myself, then again if they're past using you don't really have anything to lose.

Used to clean, dryburn, replace the wick with cotton when needed, all the time.
Got many many weeks from many coils doing it. It's easy and effective.
Old blog posts from way back describe rewicking using cotton, no pics though.
Click the 5 under my avtar if you wanna see how I used to do it.
If you have a little time why not mess with a spent coil? Ya got only a little time to lose.
Cheers.

1: yes it is true; a battery is just a power source.
I'm not even using a battery right now:

2: your ego batteries will weaken over time and you will find the difference between your old and new batteries noticeable.

Oh boy.....I don't even want to start on what that setup looks like.

Mark, coming from a fellow mouth to lunger, you really need to try the Aspire Nautilus. I have gone through a bunch of different Kanger tanks, the Geni, Protank 3, Protank 2 Mini, Subtank and I have found they all are too airy. Both the Geni and the Subtank has an airflow control and the Subtank at the tightest setting is still airier than the Geni at the middle setting. The Protanks don't have an airflow control, but they are OK and have a tighter draw than either the Geni and the Subtank at the tightest setting. I picked up the Nautilus Mini today (waiting for the full size Nautilus to come in the mail) and it is the tank that I have been searching for. In fact, the draw at the lowest setting is too tight for me. According to the Aspire website, the Nautilus is recommended to be run anywhere between 3 and 6 volts. I have my iStick 50 set at 4.5 volts with the stock coil (the iStick is detecting it as a 2 ohm coil, so this means that my wattage is set at around 10 watts.

With the Kanger tanks, my juice became fairly flavorless (I was thinking that I might be inflicted with vaper tongue) and I was running them at around 7-9 watts and if I try to bump up the power, it quickly goes from flavorless to burnt. With the Nautilus, I can start tasting the juice again, although if I chain vape then the flavor begins to fade.

Get the Nautilus, you won't be disappointed.

I am sure that rig works like a champ. By the way, this is the second time I've seen it today. I'm not sure I could ever get comfortable with sucking on a power outlet lol. Maybe that's just where I draw the line in the sand lol. If it works, it works, though.

I wonder how many people ask whether it is dangerous inhaling all that electricity.:laugh:

Just hold on tight! I heard that the Aspire Atlantis 2 sub-ohm tank is going to be released towards the end of the month. This will probably most likely prove to be wrong so don't quote me on it.

I hope the name it better;

Like maybe Crossover tank; not hybrid because that refers to the mod connections; and not sub-ohm tank because ohm is a matter of what coil you put in there.

(I'm assuming they'll be putting out a tank that takes an RBA head like the kanger subtank and the joyetech deltaII)

Someone I am sure said it but the CE5-S just didnt cut it for me anymore and eGo batteries just didnt put out the power I needed and didn't last. My true turning point was getting a Nautilus 5ml and put it on an iStick 50w and vape around 13w usig mouth to lung. Great taste and vapor.. Although a 30W would have been sufficent i wanted to also subohm soon.

Got my iStick 30w and Aspire Nautilus today ! Tank is filled and primed. iStick is charged and rig is performing nicely. No leaking or any problems yet. I see I am going to quickly drop my nicotine level. Being new off of analogs, and using a eGo setup, 24mg was good. With this new setup, I feel like I am getting way too much. Why I say that is the almost dizzy feeling, and general feeling of 'over doing' it in my body. I noticed after I ordered my tank that I bought the Nauty that had the BDC coils with it. That's ok because I got it for $20, and I will order the BVC's very soon. I started at about 4 watts and bumped it up little by little to 8.7 watts, which seems nice to me. I'm hesitant to push it more out of worry that I could hurt the coil, but I have seen some people who vape at 10 watts or more. So now I need to decide what nic level I want to step down too. I had an idea, and please give opinions to my noobishness on this. I figured since I have probably 40 ml left of Green Apple, maybe I could buy some of the same Green Apple at a very low nic level, say 4 mg, and mix the 2. Of course I would use the same juice vendor. Seems like on paper that a mixing like that would bring the nic level way down from 24. Is that a smart thing to try?
