Am I the only one disappointed with the EVO?

Like the title says: Am i the only one who doesn't think the EVO is truly great?
I have been using DSE901s almost exclusively for about six months now. After reading all the rave reviews on the EVO, i broke down and bought a starter kit with two batteries and a "try me" kit. In total, that gave me:
2 atomizers, one 2-hole and one 4-hole.
3 Genie batteries, one plain white and two with stripes
1 mains charger
8 cartridges, mixed strengths and sizes

I have now been using the EVO almost fulltime for 3 days, and i have observed that:
-Throat hit and nic delivery is not quite up to the DSE901.
-I have to draw very hard to light the LED and atomizer.
-One battery has cut out after 2 seconds a couple of times.
-Yes, battery life really is exceptional on the EVO :)
-Cartridge life is quite reasonable for what is essentially a cigarette-sized supermini
-My mains charger needs about 3 hours to charge a battery!

All of the above is in comparison with my usual DSE901s from theelectroniccigarette.co.uk.
I usually smoke Wicked liquid 18 or 24mg, cut with about 20% glycerin. I have been refilling the EVO carts with my Wicked/glycerin mix, but it still doesnt produce smoke or nic hit on par with the 901. I suspect that the lack of vapor and nicotine is connecccted to the fact that i have to draw quite hard to light the EVO. It feels like a lot of air is passing through the atomizer without really vaporizing very much liquid.
I am by no means ready to give up on the EVO, largely because of the looks and the great battery life, but feel like i'm missing something compared to the reviews.
Have i just been extremely unlucky, or am i expecting too much?
Inputs? Anyone? Womble? :)

Oh by the way, if you read this Womble: I saw somewhere that you said that your charging times were 30 minutes on USB and 20 minutes on the mains. Is that with a dedicated mains charger, or is it with a USB charger on a mains adapter?

I'm the same way I have been working on this thing for weeks

I just got another one they sent me b/c i thought it might be defective.
But after smoking it for the last 3 days I'm still getting no throat it at all.

I have tried using all my own juices 24mg but I'm still getting the same effect
I will give this unit another 2 days to break and see what happens I'm not giving up on
yet

But yes I'm one of those that is not satisfied with the EVO either your not alone

Thanks

I had EVO as my first e-cig so had nothing to compare it to till I got a 901, As soon as I did I sold EVO! Ok battery life is problem on 901 (bought a screwdriver :) ) But imo throat hit and vapour way better on 901? Also topping up/filling carts so much easier on 901. If someone can just get a longer lasting battery for the 901 as I don`t think the EVO has anything else going for it. Like tribalmasters says suddenly it in e-cig, And then all of a sudden ££££ for a black one supplied with shorter battery= shorter run time. Well that makes sense?

I don't know. Personally I was using 901's but since getting the Evo have only been using them as a backup.

One thing I've found is I don't really like the longer cartridges. They work OK at first, but often once its been topped up a few times, they start getting very hard to draw on (making the battery difficult to light up etc). I think this might be down to liquid accumulating in places that is blocking the airflow, or something like that. Removing the inner cartridge on the new type, I often find the bottom is soaking. But anyway I don't seem to have the problem with the smaller cartridges.

hi clavit

regarding the charger, i was using the usb cable with a usb adaptor, i haven't got the dedicated mains charger, i can only think that you have a defective unit, no way should it be cutting out after 2 seconds, there is a failsafe i believe if the atomizer is too dry, just to prolong it's life i guess, have you tried dripping with it? it is a slightly easier draw with no cart in it, i do agree it is a much harder draw than the 901, i wrote a review of the evo stating the draw was not easy and marked it down accordingly, although since getting the 4 hole atomizer it has improved this issue, the only thing i can think of with not getting a good throat hit, i know parked has experienced the same problems, is a faulty atomizer, maybe not heating it to the correct temperature but i'm just grasping at straws here
i would contact john at intellicig and explain what is happening, he will either advise you or exchange any defects, he's really good

cheers

Hey, I've got my own personal support group :)
At least i now know I'm not alone.

I'll keep fiddling with it, as i really like the battery life on these. I still need the hit from my 901 to jumpstart me in the morning though!

@Womble: I'll give it a couple of days before contacting John about the 2-second cutoff. The battery doesn't do this consistently, sometimes it willl run for an hour or two with no problems. I'm swapping parts around trying to isolate the problem. I'm currently on the 2-hole atomizer. Wil try it on the 4-hole tomorrow to see if there is a difference.

I get very fast charges on the USB adapter and "slow" ones (2hrs plus) using non-usb mains adapter. At present the draw on the new-style carts is not quite as good as the old style, but I'm sure this can be corrected by Intellicig. I do enjoy the bigger capacity. If your battery is cutting out after 2 secs every time it is faulty - ask John to replace it. If this is an intermittent problem then I would suggest a thorough clean of the battery and atomiser connectors with a soft cloth - this may help. Try adding more glycerine to your e-liquid mix to improve the draw. I find that, when I have freshly refilled a cart (as opposed to topped-up) the throat hit/nic delivery is as good as any other ecig I have used and far surpasses most of these. I use 36mg apple liquid at present cut 50/50 with glycerine. Just my thoughts - ymmv.

I think the reason it gets great reviews is

1. igetcha biggin' it up
2. Long life
3. Cost
4. ????
5. PROFIT!!

If it cuts off after 2 seconds I have heard that its because the atomiser is too dry, dunno how true it is tho hehe!!

i only "big it up" because from MY personal experience it beats any other e-cig that i have.........including the 901.

in MY personal experience the EVO produces better vapour and way better throat hit than my 901 PLUS it is a million miles more reliable. 901 parts have pretty rubbish battery life and lets count the amount of threads on this forum with regards to 901 atomisers breaking down or loosing performance after just a week of use. im still using my 1st EVO which i purchased 2 months ago and its still working great with the original battery and original atomiser.

the law of averages will show that there will always be some people who dislike a product and some people who love it.

me "biggin it up" surely cannot somehow brain wash other owners to write good reviews! im sure other forum members have enough brain cells to be able to make up their own minds on the EVO and write their good reviews without my influence.

if people are experiencing problems (2 second cut off for example) then give john a email:-

And your point is? The 901 has been around alot longer than the EVO, you and me (when we discovered ecigs hehe) so is bound to have a few posts complaining about it, same as the EVO which is why this thread exists! Why do you think we haven't all just abandoned the 901? Because its a bloody cracking ecig thats why! Its only major flaw compared to other generics and the like is its battery life to which there are solutions such as USB passthrough and Trog's Screwdriver. Sure the atomisers can be hit and miss but when you get a hitter, you know then that the 901 is great!!

Short life span? Yeah but theres cleaning and they are not that expensive! You big up the evo with reviews and stuff and then put the 901 down even tho you failed to buy spare atomisers when it died unexpectedly after 4 days, even the EVO has a chance of dying after 4 days!! Try having a look at the others, the penstyle, the Jantys and Sedansas, they are worthy of a review from you, too!!

you fancy me dont you! lol

i think you have misunderstood my post again mate.........i wrote what i wrote because you put me at the top of your list for the reason the EVO gets good comments and reviews from people. that gave me the impression that i had somehow brain washed other users into liking something that they dont really like.

as for putting down the 901, i dont think ive actually "put it down" as such. yes, ive said that i prefer the evo over my 901 but i dont recal ever saying that i think its rubbish etc. in fact, in my video reviews i use the 901 as a reference to show the size of other e-cigs compared to it etc and mention then that its also a good e-cig.

4 days and then my 901 atomiser died? i still use the original atomiser that came with it! you may be thinking of when i purchased it and straight away i had a defective atomiser and batteries which was then replaced by the seller. i dont consider those defective parts, i only speak of the working replacement model i recieved of which i have not had any problems at all!

as i said in a previous post i would be only to happy to try, test and review any style of e-cig but it comes down purely to cost. when i get some more cash i will purchase one of those policeman extendable batons that you like (pen style) and will then give it a very honest video review.

now stop flirting with me!

It's all very subjective, what I find has a good throat hit, others don't. You have to find what you are happy with. As for me I would quite happily swap my Dura for an EVO except I can't as the Dura batteries failed after a couple of days:(

For me the EVO is an excellent e-cig, the Janty vastly overpriced mediocrity, others will have their own views, we all have to find something we like:)

PS I also like the 901 especially in my SD, the EVO is for polite company

My bro has a police telescopic batton he 'got' from somewhere  but its much longer than the penstyle!! Just you wait til they start making mini penstyles, a penstyle with an evo battery!! :D

Polite company Mr McArthur?

I think I know what you mean - when an e-cig needs to look a bit like a cig.

I'm getting to a point now where I'm using atomisers from old kit expecting them to fail at some stage. I still have a lot of original Intellicigs, for example. I now use these with a usb passthrough battery attached to a Battech mobile batt - wonderful! My penstyles I love dearly - but the batteries are poorly made - the atomisers give up the ghost sometimes - they are now also on usb passthrough. My 901 atomisers...you get my point. Any kind of USB passthrough will give your old kit a new lease of life. My plan now is to rely TOTALLY on my Intellicig Evos (because they are wholly reliable) for any sort of out-of-doors wandering-about down-the-pub kind of behaviour. When sitting on my huge posterior I will vape via usb, and if wandering about the house will use a Battech battery to plug into. Going this way makes your old kit behave like new (until it overheats and dies) - then you are left with solid reliable up-to-date kit without wasting the original investment. My two pence for what it's worth - oh dear, Mr Brown tells me it's now worth half a groat. BAH!
:)
