Absolutely not , i use single coils for everything , work perfectly fine for me. I also never bought into all these fancy coils types making a noticeable difference in flavor. I have tried everything out there and if a single coil is wrapped and wicked properly i see zero difference.
Me either.

Been meaning to post a pic for weeks now. Bought an Achillies based on this thread and as already said it's easy to build on, no leaking and the capacity is amazing. Glad Bronze recommended it early in the thread. Pretty sure the astronomical wattage I'm vaping at marks me as a certified tootle puffer.....

I always vape my kayfuns and my magma at 10w, sometimes even a little more (love how iSticks go up by .1w instead of .5w!)... but with my Achilles, probably because of the tight draw I guess, I'm perfectly happy with it at 9w -- I'll even break in coils at 8w or 8.5w.

I also mixed my last batch of juice at 9mg instead of 10mg... less coughing! Less hiccups! More awesomeness! :D

The only thing that could make the Achilles better would be a see-thru body; it's hard to tell exactly how high the liquid is, in relation to the raised airhole, with the wick right on top of it. I've even given some thought to maybe using one of my kayfun m-tanks for that, but it would have to be dedicated to the Achilles if I did, because the threads don't *quite* match up; however the m-tanks are just a hair taller than the Achilles' body, so I'm not sure it would give a good outcome.

I ordered another Achilles the other day from Frog in Fog but they are awaiting new stock. Wish they'd tell you they are out of stock before I place my order.

Let us know when they're back, will ya? I'm also thinking that maybe I need a 3rd one... :D And I hear my Kayfuns snarling in jealousy over there on the counter...

With all the enthusiasm for the Achilles, I decided to create its own thread. Please visit if you are interested and add your thoughts. I don't want the achilles to commandeer PopPop's thread which is supposed to be single coil builds...not restricted to any atty.

I don't mind, it might help 'Tootle Puffers' find an attachment designed for us. The IGO-L, the Micro Drip, and a few others have been mentioned over the last several pages.

Maybe those of us who love to chat (me included) just got talking about one device, but here are still others out there waiting to be discussed. Besides, even as nice as the Achilles is, I still do at least 90% of my Vaping on an RM2.

Tell us about that one, please; one of the main reasons I can't so far get too excited about saving up for a Reo is because I know absolutely nothing about bottom-fed attys, and also I like a regulated vape, not straight off the battery -- I've asked if it's possible to use a Kick in a Reo, and gotten confused and confusing answers. I know the destructions for Kicks say that it has to touch a metal (conductive) tube, which Reos don't seem to have. Some of that may stray from the "single-coil atty" topic, but to me it's kinda of a piece, of why I can't get excited enough about a Reo to start saving up for one -- because I'd have to save for QUITE some time, to afford one.

a cheap alternative if you want to try bottom feeders would be a terminator. $25.51 Terminator 18650 Drip Nebulizer Vaporizer Kit - 10ml / 1*18650 at FastTech - Worldwide Free Shipping at less than $26 it would allow you to try bottom feeders and find out if you like them enough to spend the money on a REO. I build mine with a single 1.2 ohm coil and it works very well but has not convinced me to up grade to a REO. I still prefer single coil RTAs

I think if you review this thread you would find most of the participants here agree with the concept of single coil, lower wattage vaping. It is simply what we are comfortable with.

Glad you started it, lest it be unknown that single coil low wattage vaping is alive and well!

I'm late to the game on this thread but you certainly are not. I use a mix of Kayfuns and drippers from a Magma to in simple IGO-W. They all run on Nemesis mods. I prefer the single coil for the build simplicity and the battery life. There may be a slight increase in flavor with duals but for me I quickly get to a point of diminishing returns wherein I may produce more vapor at the expense of flavor. I also do NOT prefer that hot vape or a lot of throat hit. I don't care for either in large quantities. I do generally vape at .7 to 1 ohm depending on the atomizer.

As for the twisted wire being a gimmick I have to disagree. I recently twisted up a bunch of 30 and 32 gauge wire and I'm lovng the stuff. It's so easy to build with. No more worries about cutting the wire with the screw in those posts that use compression screws to trap the wire!!!! I don't even compress the coils together like a micro coil anymore and get the same results if not better. A dual coil setup with twisted wire? I did it and it was vicious little beastie. With the twisted wire my innder diameter of my coils is as much as 1/8 inch. With the same ID I used for standard wire these mean little twisted wire coils burn the juice up right away and it's dry hit/burnt cotton.

I like twisted because it's easier to work with and simple. No need to compress and once twisted it's springy vs hard and fragile. I've not had a hot leg with it either. I too thought it was all b.s. I can't speak for clapton wire or any of that other stuff. 4 strands of 32 or 3 strands of 30 twisted up are a nice upgrade for me personally.

As always, YMMV.

I like mostly single coil. I prefer the Magma in dual coil though. It is the only thing right now set up in duals. The Derringer has a better taste in dual, but it is a bit too hot for me that way. Oh, forgot about the Rogue, which I put on standby. It has to be used in duals. The Derringer and Quasar are my go to attys. Both can do a single, or dual. But I much prefer to use them in single coil for some reason.

Dang, forgot the Vulcan. I rarely use it now, it has to be dual coil too. I have been vaping my Reos so much, the other stuff is getting neglected. I have only been using the other stuff for flavor changes.

Not a bad solution at all, but I still need to know if it's possible to use a Kick with this type of mod, because I really don't like vaping unregulated; too much when a battery is fresh, but constantly decreasing -- I'd hate that.

The only unregulated device I've used was the eRoll, when I first started -- and one of the very first things I noticed about it, when I didn't really know ANYTHING about vaping, was how that first hit was great... and got increasingly less satisfying with each successive hit. I have 2 mechs, but I use a Kick in both of them, for exactly this reason -- I want to vape at 9 or 10 watts, regardless of the state of the battery's charge.
