Recently, there have been concerns over whether or not we are vaping metal. With all the news flying around about this report and that report, we have to analyze these reports with a fine tooth comb in order to find out the truth. Here is an interesting article about a recent study that was conducted about the metals that are being inhaled by e-cigarette users: Am I Vaping Metal in my Electronic Cigarette?

solder joints are not a good thing. the boiling point of VG is 390 C and the boiling point of PG is 188 C. solder can have a melting point as low as 90 C. so yes if you are using cartomizers you are taking that chance.

Kanthal is an alloy of iron-chromium-aluminium it is used heating coils for e-cigs and electric kilns. when heated the outside layer of the wire turns into aluminium oxide. this is a brittle layer but it helps protect the rest of the wire. over time this layer develops fissures and cracks (do to a difference in the thermal expansion rates of the kanthal wire and aluminum oxide) and flakes off exposing the layer below and the process repeats it self.

but i dont think this layer will matter very much. because our e-cigs are running at a relatively low temp, i think the wick will gunk up before the coil starts shedding much of its aluminium oxide layer.

Nichrome is an another option. its iron-chromium-aluminium and the Wiki for Nichrome says that it has a high resistance to oxidation.
