Different people need different amounts. There is no one for all...

When I first started (almost a year now) I started with high everything and got the shakes. So I dropped everything to mid and even some low. Then I found I wasn't getting enough and couldn't give up those last few cigs (even with snuff). Finally I found MY perfect set-up and MY favorite all-day vape. That's when I realized I needed to up my nic just a bit.
I'm now vaping 20-22, hardly use the snuff (only my heavy hitter days or times I can't stealth) and I haven't smoked a cigarette in over 3 months.

Long story- we are all different and if you keep the faith, eventually you'll find what's right for you!

When I started I was chain vaping 30-36mg juice to kill the urges, since then cut down to 24-30mg for
everyday vaping. Stronger for the problem times, first in AM and after meals, weaker the rest of the time.

If you get killer cravings, have some stronger juice ready to drip, so long as you don't get the headaches
dizzy, or other nic overdose symptoms, it's what your body may be craving. Use a lower mg juice for
the "not even paying attention" chain vaping.

Here's one way to put it all in perspective, I'll use myself as an example. I was a 1.5 PAD smoker...

I would go outside and have a cigarette every hour (sometimes more often). During those 10 minutes or so, I would get about 10-12 puffs off my cigarette (had to take small puffs because my lungs were wrecked).

Now, I pretty much vape constantly - I take a hit, on average, about every 5 minutes. How many hits is that per hour? Yep - 12. The same number of puffs I would take off an analog per hour.

So I'm really *not* vaping any more than I smoked before, I'm just doing it over an extended period because I don't have to worry about it "burning down". I can just hit the pv whenever I want and put it down. The thing to remember too is that when you vape nicotine, it gets delivered to your body *much slower* than when you smoked it. Not just because you smoked a cigarette faster, but because it absorbs into your body at a slower rate when vaporized.

I started off on 24mg juices (and still have one for "emergencies"), but the juice I use all day is now 18mg. I hope to keep decreasing it over time as I go through this process. So in the long run (considering I smoked Lights), I probably am taking in slightly more nicotine than I did before, BUT lets remember that nicotine wasn't the real killer in analogs. The real killers was the tar and 4000+ other chemicals (51 of which were known carcinogens). Nicotine, on it's own, has about the same affect on your body as caffiene does. So I'm gettin' my vape on, and I've actually cut back slightly on my coffee intake, LOL.

It also depends on the device you're using, I recently discovered(whoa...), when I got my XL cartos for my eGo, I was chain-vaping 18mg to 24mg in my KR808-D1 and when I tried to do the same with my new eGo megas, holy cow...

I think another thing people tend to forget(or want to forget) is the fact that nicotine is bad for you as well, not just smoking, and it's healthier to get by with as little as you can... so I guess some would say that any amount is too much. I need surgery I can't get while I have nicotine in my system, so my plan is to gradually cut down to 0mg juices... wish me luck :)

Just being curious here, and hope I don't come off sounding like an idiot - but what kind of surgery won't allow you to have nicotine in your system? I can understand not being able to smoke before certain surgeries - but just nicotine? Have you also been told no caffiene? It's my understanding from all the research I've done that caffiene and nicotine affect the body in basically the *same* way.

Sorry, if this question was too personal. I'm just trying to learn as much as possible about e-cigs and their effects.

Sorry this reply took so long... I'm new to forums as well and don't know how to track my posts... I forgot about this one.

The surgery I'm getting is a Gastric Bypass. They are going to reduce the size of my stomach and remove some of my intestine. The reason for this is because I took medication (that was approved by the FDA) that caused me to gain an insane amount of weight I'm having trouble loosing. The reason the doctor wants me off nicotine is because it is a vascular constrictor, and it will constrict my micro-vasculature. In other words, it will make tiny blood vessels to small to allow circulation, making healing much more difficult. It will be harder for my body to carry waste products from the wound, and carry healing cells to the wound. Apparently this can cause necrotic(dead) tissue to develop, which goes without saying, is really really not good. It would create the possibility that my body wouldn't heal after surgery and I would die.

I've heard stories of people smoking throughout the entire process and healing up just fine, So I'm assuming this is just a precautionary thing. I don't want to take the chance, and my doctor said he can and will test for nicotine levels in my body anyway.

I wasn't sure about posting this reply, I don't want opponents of e-cigs trying to use this against us, but then if they tried to ban e-cigs for this, they would have to ban cigarettes and all nicotine containing products altogether.

Hope this answers your question. :)

CLINTON all the best cutting down the nicotine, Monkerfish you will know if you have to much nicotine when you shake go red in the face feel sick or dizzy need the loo quickly. We all tolerate different levels. For me I need 10 mg for daily vape and 18 mg makes me need a lie down. I seem to need very little and can stop smoking at will and have started and stopped many times. Some will call this lucky, I think as i need so little to get a buzz that stopping is easy for me. My friend has 24 mg and needs it she went crazy crazy using 18 mg and was ok using 24mg. I think from your post you need a good dose to get by. Clintons post was all you need to know about effects on the body. Just try and cut down to level you can survive at. My farthers idea is smoke a stronger hit and have less of it cutting down on the physical action of smoking. I am untrained in giving any advise but do know you know how you feel and it is your habbit.
