First off, a Happy New Year to you all. I hope you're having a better night than I am!

NYE marks 42 days of vaping and 42 days sans analogs for me. Complete nerd that I am, I think this number is extra-specially neat. I should be doing the happy dance. But I'm not.

Why? Because my PV chose today of all days (drinking, surrounded by smokers, no stores open for the next few days...) to break. Aargh.

Looks like the battery has just up and died. Even after hours of charging there's no life. Any advice on what to try to get it going again would be much appreciated.

Knowing that I was going out drinking for NYE, and not wanting to spend the night biting people's heads off or bludging smokes, I actually bought a packet of cigarettes for the first time in over a month. I've been using them as a security blanket. So far I haven't even unwrapped the packet, but I can't say that will stay the case over the next few days while I wait for a replacement PV...

The nearest chemist (for other nicotine replacement therapies) is 200km away, and closed for the next 48 hours. Postage of replacement parts from overseas is going to take about a week. I think 2011 is going to start off with a bumpy ride! In the meantime, does anyone want to keep a stranded Aussie sane for a few days?

Hi Lapsus, I don't think I'm going to get there in time to help you out!!!

BTW: Congrats on the 42 days, however, don't be hard on yourself due to an equipment failure! If you need to go to analogues, so be it until you sort the situation.:)

In the meantime may I suggest http://www.eastmall.net//Products/Products.aspx?type=100000034&name=Joye-510%20Manual Should only take 5-7 days delivery.

Or you could go Ecigs Warehouse Australia Electronic E Cigarettes - Electronic Cigarette Supplier - Buy your E-Cigs HERE where it would be approx 3 days given your location.

I'm happy to send a few bits in the post to you, but given I probably won't be able to get anything out until Tuesday, don't know if this will help.

Cheers

Hey lapsus, The best advice I can give you would be to get on here and see if you can find someone else who vapes that lives near you. Most of us have found out that it is very important to keep extra supplies because we can't just go to the local store and buy more. :( I have some extra stuff, come on over and I'll let you borrow what you need. Its just a short trip to Nebraska in the US from where you are. HA HA.:2cool::vapor: Do try to find someone close its better than going back to smoking.:vapor:

Oh Noes!Sry about your situation mang, be strong! Heh, I'd recommend searching the the nearby (and still open) deli/grocery stores for "Nuvocig" $20 come with 1 batt, 1 atty, 2 cartridges and a usb charger. I personally have been seeing them pop up even in gas stations, but the prices do vary depending on the brand.

Good luck if you decided to venture out and search, otherwise have a great new years and to all of ECF too!

Thank you to everyone for your good humour, sympathy and advice :)

Yes kids, this is a prime example of "don't do what Johnny Don't does". DO have backups. DON'T have epic hardware failure in the middle of a run of public holidays!

And if you live many, many miles from civilization, in a country where selling ecigs is all but banned this advice goes double! (Oh if only I could just go to the nearest service station, Walmart or Radio Shack. That would be bliss. You Yanks don't know how good you've got it :p)

Thanks for the links clark8876. I've been looking at a Riva kit on Eastmall. They seem to get good reviews, and people seem happy with their service. Are people saying good things about the Australian site you linked to? It looked a bit dodgy to me, but that may just have been the iPad messing with page formatting...

Still haven't caved and opened the packet. Who knows, if I hold out for a week I might not need the replacement hardware when it turns up. I seriously doubt it, though!

Just a thought, but what's broke? Maybe someone on here (of course not me, technically challenged) can help you fix what's broke? Just a thought.

I'm no expert, but it looks to me like the battery died because juice got into it. It's an auto- one with a hole in the battery at the atty end. I'd been really careful not to overfill the cartomisers, but obviously not careful enough. Now it won't draw, won't recharge, won't light up...busted.

Is there any way of cleaning these auto batteries out if this happens? I can't be the first person this has happened to. Any ideas would be much appreciated.

Unfortunately the elusion seems to be incompatible with other ecigs. It looks like an auto 510, but a few threads on here suggest that no other parts will fit it (different width threads, male/female ends reversed etc). If anyone does have a spare elusion-brand battery they'd like to sell, that'd be super, but I'm not holding my breath.

That's awful.

Did you try asking in the Australia section of this forum? Maybe someone near you could help you out?

I don't suppose you have a passthrough to vape off usb from ac...

Gee if you were in the US you could go in 7-11 and buy a starter PV...

Worst case, you smoke the cigarettes until you can get another PV. Since you may already be used to slightly lower nicotine absorption, maybe buy lighter cigs. And order a new PV. A PV worked for you once and it will work again. Order a new one with spare atty and spare battery.

Good luck and I hope you find someone in the Aussie forum.

Aussie site is good and Nelson is a good bloke, I've used them a few times. They're based in Melbourne and shipping is 3 days to Perth. Should be about the same to your location.

If the problem is liquid in battery, it's not good news. However, I've seen others here advise putting the battery in a container with rice. The rice apparently draws the moisture out of the battery. Haven't tried it myself but worth a try.

Have just sent you a PM in response to yours.

Hi Dormouse, trouble is that Lapsus lives in a fairly remote part of Australia and the whole country is shut down for holidays until Tuesday (no postal service).

Hopefully someone nearer than me can help out.

Thanks for the rice suggestion. I'm trying it as we speak. Any idea how long it will take? I tried vaping after a few hours in the rice yesterday, and it still wasn't working. I've put it back in, and haven't tested it yet today. I'll keep you posted.

I ended up ordering a manual 510 kit (with lots of spares!). The eGO/Riva will have to wait for another day when I'm a bit more cashed up. At least the 510 parts are all compatible, interchangeable and easily replaceable. Unlike the elusion. So when I do upgrade I'll just need batteries and a charger, and not a whole new kit. Win.

Up until now I've been ordering everything from overseas, working on the misapprehension that because you couldn't get nic juice in Australia the local market for hardware would be equally crappy. How wrong I was. I've been paying a fortune for shipping, and waiting an age for no reason! I'd happily recommend Ecig SA (Ecig-SA.com S.A | ecig-sa.com | E cigs | E cigz | South Australia) to anyone looking for ecig stuff in Australia. They're based in Adelaide (you can go to the store if you live there), do cheap Express Post overnight shipping, and their customer service is awesome. I placed my order after 5pm on a Saturday (New Years Day, no less) and I got an email less than 3 hours later to not only say that it was processed and packed, but apologizing that it wouldn't be here today because the post office is closed until Tuesday. That's fast work! Very impressed.

I just saw this today. I have not tested it and have absolutely no idea if it will work for you but it is worth a try.

YouTube - Batt out of Vapor

I loved this! It seemed crazy enough to work, so I gave it a go. I'm already the poster child for What Not To Do this week, so what did I have to lose? Plus, it let me tell my SO that I was late for dinner because I was "doing science" (a good chuckle makes the nicotine depravation seem worthwhile).

The verdict: 4 AAA batteries wasn't enough to produce the charge. Also, even when taped together they were a bit unwieldy. I tried again with a 9V battery and for a few wonderful seconds it worked!! Alas, the battery overheated quickly and stopped working, so it was a short-lived joy :(

I got 2 puffs out of it, which was 2 more than I've had in the last 48 hours! And the plan has merit. I might keep trying, and let you know if I find a mad scientist plan that actually works. At the very least it will kill some time...
