I have been lurking for several weeks and I think it has reached the time when I should introduce myself and thank all of the members of the forum for all of the fantastic information they have provided.

Recent medical issues caused me to realize I needed to quit smoking. I knew I had a strong nicotine addition. Over the past year or so I had been smoking over two packs a day. I had been smoking for about thirty-five years. I had tried EVERYTHING available to quit. None of it worked for me.

This time I used the gum. I found that it was most effective because I could control the dosage, but it did nothing to help with the ‘what do I do with my hands’ part of my habit. I was doing okay but not being completely successful. I had cut down a lot but was still smoking three to six cigarettes a day. And I was really looking forward to each of them. It was as though I was depriving myself and the cigarettes were becoming more and more precious.

When I thought about it, this wasn’t working at all. Rather than finding that I thought less about smoking over time, I found that I was thinking about it even more. So I got on the internet and started searching for more information on quitting.

One of my searches brought me to a site reviewing e-cigarettes. I was intrigued. I had heard of them, but never really considered them as an alternative to cigarettes. I spent hours and hours over the next several days trying to learn more. Eventually I found this forum.

I kept reading and visiting vendor sites. I was learning so much. I found The Wonderful World of vaping: An Illustrated Guide to E-cigs in the New Members’ Forum. I decided to order a starter kit and see what all the fuss was about.

As I waited for my kit to arrive, I kept reading this forum. I was still learning and the information was fantastic. I was starting to think this might actually work.

The day the kit arrived I took it and went and hid in my bedroom. I opened the package and gently took out all of the parts. I read the instructions and plugged the first battery in to charge. As I waited I familiarized myself with all the parts.

The light was green. I put the cartridge on the atomizer and attached the assembly to the charged battery. I put the contraption to my mouth and took a long, slow drag. I was amazed. I took a couple more. It was fantastic. I haven’t touched a cigarette in three weeks.

My name is Missy and I have quit!!!

I have tried so many times before, and each time I failed I became more disheartened… but this time is completely different. I have succeeded. I don’t even think about cigarettes any more. I really don’t. I love vaping!

I’m forever grateful to each and every member of this forum. It was YOU who gave me the information and the courage to try this. Thank you all so much!

Ditto!

Welcome to the club, Missy! Glad to hear that your "transition" was so easy. Every day you'll find new and fantastic changes in your body and your life - taste comes back, smell comes back, cough goes away, your hair, clothes, house, car, etc., no longer smell. Not to mention the potential monetary savings.

Well done!

Congratulations! I loved reading your story. If you wrote a book, I would buy it. :D Now isn't this just great! But don't count on saving a lot of money.... haha If you're anything like me you'll have to have every PV on the market and all the juices, etc, etc, etc. Well, now you can just enjoy your life as a non-smoker! See ya around! :)

That's such a great post! Congratulations - and welcome.

Wait till you start trying all of the flavors out there. I'm loving it. I was a 37+ year smoker with multiple quitting attempts (and failures) under my belt, and I really had resigned myself to the idea of dying with a cigarette in my hand. That changed the moment I tried my first vape on my Vapor King. I have not had a single cigarette since then. I was one of the lucky ones. For me, it was an immediate switch off the analogs.

Now, six weeks later, I find that I don't even think about cigarettes. If someone had suggested that this was possible even two months ago, I would have written them off as a complete nutter.
