Got my Surge Tank today, and wanted to share a quick first impression with you guys. Before that though, a huge thanks to Rippspeed for the chance to try this out. I ought to tell you guys that although I was to get a prototype, Ripp made sure mine had the adjustable pin upgrade before sending it out.
I'll be brief, since I've only had a few hours to spend trying it out so far and I'd rather have a few more days to really put it through it's paces. But with that said...
First off, from the pics I'd seen of the Surge Tank, one of my worries was the possibility of it being top-heavy on a tube mod. I'm glad to see that's not an issue. While it's definitely got a solid feel to it, it's also very lightweight for it's size. It's going to be a bit wide for a super thin mod, but it sits rock-solid on top of my Provari.
The base and top sections thread together nicely and form a solid fit. The adjustable depth pin is accessible through the base, and the height is adjusted with a tiny allen wrench that Ripp included with the tank. Fortunately, the pin was already set up perfect for the Provari.
Turns out I did have a couple of the right size 6ml bottles that you'll need for this tank. Threading the bottle all the way into the tank took some pressure, but it's do-able. On the first tank I only filled the bottle about 3/4 of the way to avoid any chance of squeezing any juice out. Once threaded in the whole way, the base fit perfect and I was ready to top it off with an atty.
I decided on a standard resistance atty to try it out and the atty fit perfectly over the top pin. Here's where my inexperience with feeder systems came into play. I gave the bottle a couple weak squeezes to test it. Couldn't tell if I was getting any juice. Tried a few more times, then fired it. I was definitely getting power to the atty, although I also got a burnt taste. Turned out I wasn't feeding enough juice yet. So I cheated a bit and dripped a few drops into the atty to make sure it was saturated before I tried again. Next time I fired it it was perfect...I haven't dripped in a while and this really brought me back to that true flavor you get from dripping. Once it started getting a bit dry I gave the bottle a good squeeze through both windows and noticed some juice coming from the base of the atty. Now I knew about how much pressure to apply. I took a dry pull to absorb some of the juice, fired again, and I've been going ever since. I've spent the last couple hours vaping on this tank, and still have several mls left to go before I'm going to need to refill.
So, for my initial impressions - this tank mod is working awesome right out of the box. I'm familiar with carto and ce2 tanks, but this is a whole new animal. I'm guessing those with feeder mods will feel right at home with this, but tank fans will be able to appreciate it as well. After I get to spend a few days with it, I'll post some more updates.
