I've spent the last couple of hours reading reviews on e-cigs and now I am thoroughly confused. Who wasn't at this point? I am a pack a day smoker and would like some help quitting. I want to try e-cigs but there are so many out there. One of the one's that I keep reading good things about is the V2 Pro. I am looking for something that will give me a similar feel (throat hit) as a regular cigarette. Something that will emulate smoking a real cigarette. I think this is important as I make the switch from analog to electronic. Any help or advice would be greatly appreciated. The amount of info out there is overwhelming. Thanks!

Hey
I was in your position when I started this new strange hobby about 2 months ago. There are many here with much more experience who can direct you to a good starter kit. I wanted to let you know though that after smoking over a pack and a half a day for 45 years switching to a vaporizer was almost seamless. I still smoke about 3 cigs a day but, I'm working on it.

There's a steep learning curve to this and there's a ton of information to get your head around. I really wanted to let you know that it does work and it's nowhere near as hard as I feared.

Good luck to you! You'll find a great deal of support here.

to ecf UGA8. So glad you are going to give vaping a try. I think the first thing that I realized about vaping is that it is not going to taste like a real cigarette. I quickly realized though that they tasted so much better. I started out of the what is known as a cigalike and in a very short time I had changed to a ego style battery because I was going through so many batteries a day. (I was a heavy smoker). The egos where great for a while but that too left me wanting more. Tried several more pv's and then ended up with a mvp2. That was easy to use, dependable and had just a fantastic battery life. I could have saved a lot of money by just starting out with a mvp2. I am glad I still have it and it is a great backup. Box mods are not for everyone. Since I started using a reo grand, I have found my happy place and the searching is over. You have to find what you like. I smoked and vaped for a while and just got to the point where vaping just tasted so much better than I quit smoking with out any effort. Stopped a 40 some year habit after trying everything in the world to quit. And all it took was vapor. Still amazes me everyday.

I know there is a lot of information on ecf and it can be overwhelming. But the best part about ecf is......the people. Always someone here to offer help, guidance and most important........support. I wish you well and look forward to reading about your vaping success. :)

there seems to be one main core thought when changing from smoking to vaping, and that is to maintain a "smoking" like characteristic when vaping. There may be some similar consistancies between the 2 but when you really think about it, its a whole different animal. If people would consider it a change instead of a lateral move, switching from smoking to vaping may just be a bit easier to transition to.

If one would change the taste profile to something different than tobacco flavors that reminds them way too much of what the were puffing on, getting away from the ciggies would/could possibly be easier. Humans basically dont like change, they like the security of something familiar to them. Thus the search for a flavor/action/technique way to similar to smoking. Embrace the change, take on a new outlook on the way you want to approach this method of distancing ones self from the ciggie.... :)

Rat2Chat2, thanks for the input but I just Googled MVP2 and that thing is HUGE! I really don't want something that large and cumbersome but thanks.

Bunnykiller, I am certainly not opposed to change. I mean, that is the whole purpose of my wanting to switch from real cigs to e-cigs. That's a pretty big change. I just really want some advice on what the best ones are. What is going to give me a similar throat hit, like a real cig. Taste is secondary to me right now. To me, it's about that feeling of inhaling and exhaling. I don't want an e-cig that I can't feel.

This is a pretty great starter kit in my opinion. http://www.myvaporstore.com/Vision_Spinner_Joye_Ego_C_Twist_Combo_p/vvs-c.htm

It gives you a lot of options and the batteries you choose from are variable voltage which could help you achieve the throat hit you desire. It will also depend on the liquid you use. If you don't mind the longer batteries, I would suggest the higher mAh versions which will last you longer between charges. As for toppers, I would get at least one Kanger Protank or Mini Protank. They are glass and can withstand the "tank cracker" liquids such as citrus and cinnamon flavors.

First off, hi and welcome :D Congrats on choosing to try e-cigs.

I recommend the Vision Spinner II for what you're seeking. It's variable voltage so it will let you dial in the exact vape you want, and since throat hit is important to you this will help you get the throat hit you want. I'd suggest a mini protank as a topper, or even an Evod - they are both slender BCCs which will help provide decent vapor and throat hit while keeping things fairly easy.

If you find the Spinner to be too large you'd probably be looking at a "cigalike" (which is just what it sounds like - an ecig that is designed to replicate the size and shape of a cigarette, though they nearly all lack throat hit and flavor compared to even the most basic of other setups). While I haven't used one in ages, and even then only one brand, I've heard that Volt and MigCigs both can offer a satisfactory feel.

It may take trying two or three different things before you find what works for you, because vaping is very very subjective. If you try something that doesn't work for you, just look at what makes it not work for you and try and find something that fills those needs. Happy vaping! :D

Thanks Megs and Thousand. You both recommended the same thing to me. I've just read quite a bit on the Vision Spinner II. I understand the battery and the tank part of the set up. I have a couple of other questions. So, you put a liquid in the tank and that's what causes the vapor? And also, if I am quitting analogs, where am I getting my nicotine from. I think I might need that for a while. Thanks again!

Rat2Chat2, thanks for the input but I just Googled MVP2 and that thing is HUGE! I really don't want something that large and cumbersome but thanks.

Actually it's really not that big. It's considerably narrower than a pack of regular cigarettes. Probably the most standard way I could describe it is about the same height, depth and mass as a pack of playing cards and about 2/3 the width. (I'd trained as a blackjack dealer, so I'm very familiar with the size of a standard deck of cards.)

For myself, the MVP2 or it's little brother, the vv3 are the batteries I wish I'd started with. They're reliable, easy to use and very fairly priced if you look around. I recommend 101vape

Innokin iTaste VV (V3) Express kit - 101 Vape

Innokin iTaste MVP V2.0 - 101 Vape

And the tanks I use are ...

Kanger Mini Protank 3 - 101 Vape

Easy to use, easy to replace the coils on, and do the job with a minimum of fuss.

tl;dr the MVP2 isn't as big as it looks. A simple battery and tank is a good place to start.

The juice has nicotine in it. You select the strength when you order it. Most moderate smokers start at 12mg. (which is what I use) My wife, who was a heavy smoker, vapes 24 mg. Some people who didn't smoke much at all use 6 mg.

The higher the nicotine, the stronger the throat hit, on average. For your first juice, I highly recommend finding a local physical store where you can try different flavors until you find something you like. And depending on who's working, they might have some different nicotine strengths so you can see what the different throat hits are like.

I would go with the Spinner because you will have more options to grow with it. The threading on the Spinner will allow you to use tons of different toppers while it looks to me like the V2Pro is proprietary.

I'll second that.
And welcome to vaping
I'll make it a third. The Vision Spinner is a great choice!:)

I personally would recommend the itaste vv/vw. I purchased one the week after I bought my non-adjustable battery. In addition to more control of the vape, you are also able to use it while it changes via the mini usb port.

I also really like the mini protank 3's.

Pick up a couple replacement heads while you're there.

Also, don't purchase a large bottle of any juice. Buy a sampler, or variety of smaller bottles.

2 of the small bottles that initially purchased are still sitting the cupboard. Your taste in juice will evolve over time, but what you find tastes good the store may be occasional-type flavor for you.

So etching like the vision spinner will be nice and really not that expensive, along with some cartos to start, some Greta recommendations above, but to give you the throat hit and flavor to keep you from smoking will be based more on juice. I was two packs a day and started with 18mg 50/50 blend and the throat hit was decent, you might need some like 70pg/30vg if you want more throat hit.

I also agree with Athousandyears's recommendation. I also agree that a good nicotine level is important, probably 18mg at least. You can always go down later.

Also, once you have a starter kit in your hands, everything will make much more sense. I think it is better to get a kit quickly, and then decide on what changes you might want to make in the future. It is easy to get overwhelmed by all the information here that you might wait and worry too much about getting perfection right at the start.

For example, I've been vaping for 2 months, and I decided I am perfectly fine with one of the weakest (640mah) eGo-C Twist batteries. I have two and they last just fine for me.

Good luck!
