This may also be similar in operation to other e-cig models, but I only own a 510 so I don't know for sure, others please chime in and let us know.

A lot has been said about flooded atty's, overfilling, e-liquid in their mouth, the "gurgling" sound when vaping and other similar things. I thought I would take a closer look at exactly how my 510 works and below is a simple diagram I made to help show you what I found out. By taking a closer look inside the "workings" it may help you (as it helped me) understand why some of the aforementioned problems occur.

As you will notice at the bottom of my diagram, if your cartridge/atty has too much e-liquid and you lay your 510 down horizontally, the fluid can easily make its way into the "air path" which can have an effect on your next vape. I now make it a habit to try to keep my 510 vertical at all times, either clipping it in my pocket or whatever.

Please excuse the crudeness of my artwork, but my goal is just to help others understand why you may be having certain problems.

Thanks for the info BobW, I didn't actually cut one open to see if there was anything else inside (baffles, etc.).

You don't have to cut it open. Simply bite the mouth end and the little end cap will pop out, or you could use a toothpick or something similar to stick in the hole and pop it out that way. I open mine up to clean them out between flavors. Otherwise you end up with an awkward period of weird flavor mix.

Not all 510 carts have the baffle. Doesn't seem to make much difference whether you leave it in or not on those that do.

Thanks for the info Mountain Dude. I went ahead and popped the end off of one of my empty 510 carts and sure enough there was some sort of "baffle" inside. Unfortunately, it was flipped sideways once opened so I'm not sure which way it is suppose to face (nipple facing the mouth end or the other way).

Thanks again for the tip!

@ Mountain Dude-

I respectfully disagree with both your last posts...

The baffle does serve a purpose - it is an additional barrier to help prevent liquid from exiting thru the mouthpiece.

The baffle in my 510 cart is:
- flat on one side
- with the 'nipple' on the other side
- a hole in the center, thru the 'nipple'
- recessed around the 'nipple'

Each time I have opened the cart for whatever reason, I have always found some liquid trapped in the 'recessed' area of the baffle.

The 'end cap' (aka the 'mouthpiece') is of the same shape and features (flat one side, "nipple" with hole and recessed area on the other side; along with two 'legs' on the 'nipple' side. The mouthpiece goes on 'legs' in (and, therefore, 'nipple' in). Based on that, and the fact every cart I have opened is this way, the 'nipple' should point toward the atty side the cart.

I assemble mine by putting the baffle into the end of the cart, 'nipple' in; then use the legs of the mouthpiece to push the baffle in and position it.

I Learned something. Thank you !

I agree with bogiediver: The baffle definitely is very useful in keeping liquid out of your mouth. I too found some liquid behind the baffle. but it is is sort of trapped there due to the design, and little or none gets in your mouth.

This explains why my 801 often puts liquid in my mouth, but the 510 rarely does !
