...I was thinking of rewicking my own. Where can I get the wire and wicking? What kind of wire should I get (material and thickness) and how do I determine what the resistance is. In other words, how do I build a 1.8 ohm, say, versus a 2.4 ohm or 2.8 ohm or whatever it is I want? I know I can use cotton wicking. Are there other wicking materials? I heard cotton is awesome. Is this true? I've watched some vids on rewicking and it looks easy. Just keep the wire from crossing and touching itself anywhere along the circuit. Thanks

I bought my wire and wick from Amazon. 0.15 gauge nichrome wire and cotton candle wick. Make sure the cotton hasn't been bleached or treated and just to be sure boil it for 30 minutes and let it dry totally before using it. U will also need a multimeter for testing your coils. I have the yj lavatube which has the built in resistance checking like the provari for checking mine. U can use silica or fibreglass wick too. Also heard people using ss mesh with cotton wick which is supposed to work really well. I usually wrap 4 or 5 coils and it usually works out at between 1.7 and 2.0 ohms.

If you're going to embark on this journey, you will eventually need to do some reading in here:

Rebuildable Atomizer Systems

This thread may actually get moved there. ;)

There is also some info that may be useful in the modding forum, such as the huge Wick Materials thread.

I use 34 gauge nichrome wire from here:

PnJ Resources, LLC : Nichrome 80

And 8 strands of this brand and size of bamboo crochet thread (natural color):

Aunt Lydia's Bamboo

I haven't bought silica wicks, but you'll find that at some vendors. I think Clouds of Vapor has some buried in their site near rebuildable atomizers.

Wire can be purchased all over the place. There are many who sell it for quite cheap. Personally, I bought some from Mountain Oak Vapor (~15ft for $5) probably a bit overpriced, but, I bought a Phoenix from there and I didn't wish to purchase from two separate sources.

As for wick, there are many options. People have reported using 100% cotton gauze, 100% cotton unbleached unmercerized yarn. I saw someone use 100% unbleached - no dye - cotton fabric. Which I bought some today actually. I haven't got the Phoenix yet, but, I'll let you know if this fabric worked out.

Some threads to check out: http://www.e-cigarette-forum.com/fo...030-wick-materials-safe-vs-dangerous-284.html

Rebuildable Atomizer Systems

Got ninja'd :D

Edit to add: As for wire gauge - most people tend to use 32-34AWG Kanthal or Nichrome.

The more wire there is the higher the resistance, so more wraps and/or thicker wire will give more resistance.
The only way to know the resistance is to check it with a multimeter, or a Provari if you have one.

Yes, I have a multimeter. The vids I saw they were wrapping 4x and when they tested they were getting about 1.8ohms. Of course, I'm sure wire thickness and the size of coils matter, but I'm guessing a couple more wraps might be needed to get it to 2.4 or abouts. Just a guess, obviously. Perhaps when I tear up one of my 2.4 ohm coils I can count the wraps. I'll be using it on a VV battery for the most part, but there will be times that it might be used on a standard eGO at about 3.4 - 3.7 volts so I'd like to get fairly close to a set resisitance. Thank God for VV bats, huh? BTW, if I could afford a Provari, I'd just buy complete coils instead of rebuilding my own. Haha . I remember when I logged my first post on ECF. I just said hello and how I looked forward to getting good advice. The first reply was, "Get a Provari"! Here I am trying to figure out how to refill carts and some guy wants me to get a Provari. Freaking hilarious!
