Just wondering who on the site is using an Android powered phone? If so, which phone, what version, and which apps/mods/ROM are you running?

I've had my Moto Droid for a little over a month now, love it compared to the iPhone it replaced... the ability to customize it makes it 200% worth it over the iPhone... and the fact that its not on AT&T, and can multi task :)

I was running home++, but today took the plunge and rooted my phone, and am now running SmokedGlass v5.0.1. Base 2.0.1 Android software, with 2.1 loaders, so I have the new toys that are on the nexus one (new media player, grid menu, live wallpaper, etc), with the reliability of the 2.0.1 firmware. I've also overclocked the processor to 800MHz.

However, if anyone else runs this, sometimes my phone goes into these looping reboots... ive been reading the alldroid forums, but havent seen anything in the 50+ pages on there about anyone having this problem too.. so im wondering if it might be something I'm doing wrong.

Im Jealous, I want android...... Actually I have an HTC Diamond running Windows Mobile 6.5 & sense 2.5 UI custom rom by OMJ. Typically this phone comes with Windows Mobile 6.1 which I didn't like.

I can actually run Android on my phone and use it fairly well but there is a few bugs that still need to be worked out to make it 100%.

I would try these to websites. The second site (XDA) which is a forum, were the people actually involved in the porting of android to Windows Mobile devices. If anyone can help you they can (just sign up and post). Those guys are pure genius with there abilities. Look under the android section.

Moto Droid (2.0.1) since release day. I have yet to root mine, just don't want to have to replace it if I brick it. Just updated home++ - so far so good seems more stable. I'm over at Droid Forum - Covering all Verizon Droid Phones & the Motorola Droid (same user name). A lot of rooters and hackers, especially Smoked Glass, over there. I'm sure someone could help find an answer to your issue. On the app side I am currently digging xScope (web, task, browser) big time along with the Swype beta. ExZues and Raging Thunder 1 & 2 are great games. Also beta testing Rhapsody - this app is just amazing (I already had a TO-GO account). Screebl is a must have. Waiting for Flash and a way to access my slingbox but that will probably be solved with flash before a dedicated app.
I could go on for pages but ..........

Did I mention the phone rocks?:D

Hmm I don't have an Android device but I do have some hacking candidates! First there is the rarely used iPaq HX4700, a marvellous 450MHz PDA with one fatal flaw - Windows mobile!! Ipod touch which I could hack and a desktop fanles 466 box could any of those run Android?

Well not so much Android but emulators on top of Android hehehe!

Oooh the iPaq is actually 624MHz!! Not bad for something so old!!

rooting was pretty painless, took about 10 minutes to do, but i also installed a new flash img and sprecovery at the same time... which unfortunately meant I had to do some toying aroundin command prompt. Once I got everything straight, it went quick.

I figured out my smoked glass problem... the launcher2 (or nexus one launcher), it buggy, and when you have a live wallpaper running, and try to open the grid menu, it shuts down the phone. I've reinstalled smoked glass with both launcher2 and the normal home tab, and havent had teh problem at all in home. Kinda disappointing, because i really liked the grid. Hopefully in the near future the developer fixes it so it's stable. Maybe the droid isn't powerful enough to run it though (which could be why motorola removed it from the official 2.1 update). If you don't have a live wallpaper going, its about 85% reliable.

Also reinstalling allowed me to set the overclock speeds to 250mhz - 1.1ghz, instead of the 250-800 i chose the first time.

I was using swype, but got a new phone, and couldnt find the "leaked" download that didnt require a sign up... unfortunately, that version didnt work at all for me :( smokedglass comes with the HTC ide soft keyboard, and it rocks, although i do like being able to text and drive with swype... but to get around that... smokedglass, and stealing all the 2.1 glory, i now have speech to text :)

It would be interesting to see if someone could hack an iphone or ipod touch to load the Android OS... wouldn't that be a total kick in the berries to apple?

down to 10% now... its a new app i downloaded, so its a few % off from what its actually at... have to allow the app from full charge to completely drained to calibrate and give me an actual reading on the battery, but remaining time within 10 minutes that I have before its dead

I got an Android recently, the Google Nexus One :D :D

Comes with Android 2.1, as for apps I've got: AK Notepad, Astrid, ASTRO, Backgrounds, Barcode Scanner, BitBlocks Free, Bluetooth File, XE Currency, eBuddy, ES Task Manager, Flashlight, Fring, Google Goggles, Google Translate, Grooveshark (awesome), gTasks, Handcent SMS, i Music, Last/fm, Layar, Google Listen, Lookout, NewsRob, Pandora, PayPal, PdaNet, Places Directory, Qik, Robo Defense Pro, RockOn, Seesmic, Shazam, ShopSavy, Speed Test.net, ToMarket Lite, Traspter, Truth or Dare, Tube Download, TuneWiki, Twitdroid, Uninstaller, Unit Converter, Voice Recorder, Yelp, and a few others.

I agree, A LOT better than the iPhone.

Not into rooting, that's one of the things I like most compared to the iPhone, you don't have to do any strange stuff to get good apps on it (for example I modded my Keyboard, have apps like PdaNet, Uninstaller, ASTRO, etc, all direct from the Android Market). The iPhone without Cydia sucks, but when you do Jailbreak it it starts running slower, etc, and eventually or when you want to update the OS you have to format everything. With my Nexus I get all the apps and customization I want, out of the box and working perfectly.

However, if anyone else runs this, sometimes my phone goes into these looping reboots... ive been reading the alldroid forums, but havent seen anything in the 50+ pages on there about anyone having this problem too.. so im wondering if it might be something I'm doing wrong.
Exactly why I don't want to get into rooting and modding. Android by itself is awesome, I don't find a need to do this unlike the iPhone where you HAVE to jailbreak to get any decent apps.

Running my Moto Droid at 1.0 GHz, on Bugless Beast 0.8 with the Smoked Glass theme, 5 home screens. Thats the unreleased Android 2.1 OS btw, so yes I also get access to all the market goodies for the nexus 1. Also the low voltage mods and custom power consumption has given me several extra hours of battery use, even when in heavy use. To the people above, you're doing something wrong.

Ive actually noticed a longer battery life since rooting it and modding the UI. a rooted android and a jailbroke iphone are not even in the same league IMO, folks who root their android os still use the android market, however, are able to gain access to apps previously unavailable... as well as make hardware changes (setcpu for example for extremely simple overclocking). the main reasoning for me rooting the phone was simply a greater range of UI changes I'm able to do, as well as get some of the "standard" features out of 2.1 that I had previously had to download apps to get (like voice to text).

I did figure out the endless loop was caused by using the 2.1 launcher with live backgrounds... I have since stopped using the live backgrounds and havent had a problem. I would imagine this is something the developer of smoked glass is working on. I have the option to also use the standard home tab, but i do like the nexus one grid menu better. live wallpapers are cool for the "ooooooo" factor, but don't really serve a purpose... but wireless teathering is the sh**!

wanna share your "charge saving" mods? I've noticed *some* power savings, but would like to squeeze every bit i can out of that battery :)

Well what Droid OS/launcher/Kernel/Theme are you using right now? Overclock?

On 0.8 Bugless Beast with AdamZ's Smoked Glass and his custom Low Volatge Kernel, i have it set to underclock the phone when not in use (Clocked to 1ghz stable though at the top end, higher i can do but its iffy and kinda pointless for what i do). Also the new OS features some nifty functions that seem to alternate, automatically, your GPS/Network/Wireless on/off in the background even if like me you leave them on all the time.
This cut down on power usage immensely, that and becomming a tack-killer nazi every time i so much as closed the phone, has led to me MUCH better battery life thus far. Also I suspect 2.1 itself is more power-friendly from what ive been reading, it sure is snappier.

AS ALWAYS: Make a full Nandroid backup first, its not my fault if you blow it up!

Bugless Beast 0.8 (2.1 ROM)

I recomend a full nandroid restore btw, not the update.zip method. It just avoids a lot of issues though you will have to re do your apps/icons/etc.

I'm using 2.0.1, Launcher 2, AdamZ's kerenel that came packaged with smoked glass 5.0.1 (2.6.29), smoked glass v5.0.1 theme, with overclock set by setcpu between 600-1100.... when sleeping i underclocked the processor to 250-450, low battery will kick down the processor to 550

Id recomend the 2.1, its actually faster and more stable now (At least petes) and again it seems to draw less battery. Also autokiller works wonders ive found. Today with constant texting, a little game of f-zero on snesoid almost a dozen phone calls and 4 emails and maybe 15 minutes of straight browser usage (and meeboIM for Facebook) i returned home after 6 hours with 60% battery left.

All I disabled was wireless + Bluetooth, i left GPS (which is toggled automatically now) and data on all day, max screen drightness (i despise the auto dimming feature, it wreaks havoc with my phone key pad for navigating PBX menus!)

I'm on xda and ppcgeeks, been playing with an old vogue that I flashed an android rom on. it's almost time to get a new phone, and while I've been thinking I was gonna hold out till the nvidia tegra stuff was more widely available, I might be looking for a 1ghz snapdragon (?!) phone that I can go with either win 6.5.x or android.,
