the wife and i have been refilling our carto's, i just started to clean them but i'm starting to get a funky chemicle taste when we vape.

Is it time to just ditch them and buy new carto's? or is it my non volt juice? I was going to order some volt juice but we have been using 5ml sample bottles from ecb and our local shop to try flavors and they all seem to just have a funky chemicle taste now unless i mix espresso and vanilla or my kretek.

We ditch the cartos after we are done with them. Wife goes a day or two on one. I sometimes push it a little longer. Cleaning cartos is something after watching some videos on seems like more of a hassle than they may be worth. But it seems the best success is boiling them for 15 mins, rinse, repeat until a good clean foam less boil appears as a normal rolling boil. It seems as though it will take 4-5 repeats. That sounds like 75 mins of boil time (5 repeats) and about 90 mins of total time when factoring in rinse and drain. Didn't think it was worth it.

If it doesn't come clean, you'd always get leftover taste to some degree.

I say save them, but get some blanks to try your juices out on. Or you can try Rave's little trick here and test them out on that. Maybe there's something in the base that these other places use that's not agreeing with you. Strong flavors like (espresso and kretek) will mask that. I myself don't care for Bluemist juices for that reason. How did you clean them? Maybe some of your cleaning agent is still in there?

I clean and reuse like crazy - some of my cartos are over six months old! But that all stops when SI comes out with the fillerless ones. It's a drag cleaning these, and I'm sooo ready to switch!

i nuked a coffee cup of water popped the tops on my carto's and drop them in, after they sit for a few minutes i use a syringe with the rubber thing on the end to hold the carto's and force hot water though them 10 or 20 times then use a dry one to push most of the water out and i let them sit overnight. maybe i should push some vodka through them.. i'm waiting for the fiberless and the new clero's and i think we will be dont with carto cleaning after that,

we dont mix juices in carto's either, i'll clean it and after its dry refill with the same juice, maybe its the ecblends ingrediants, i'm starting to notice some irritation on the roof of my mouth and nose when i exhale but i'm thinking thats the nic. i dont get it with 0 nic juice

fillerless cartos????????????? SPLAIN WOMAN!!!!!!!! :) please??
They're in the process of testing out smaller clearos ("fillerless cartos") now (similar to Fluxomizer/Phoenix). If all goes well, could be out in July. The existing clearos are coming out in a non-polycarbonate version too - I refuse to vape BPAs.

Fillers are a PITA to get clean! :grr:

It could be the cartos or it could be the juice.

Pesonlly, I have not had any luck with juice from ECB. Everything tasted funky. How old are the cartos? I generally got about a month out of them refilling every day.

Mixing flavors doesnt work well with cartos though. Its difficult to get the old flavor out. The only time where this isnt true is when you change with similar flavor profiles, for example grape to watermelon. Or going from something like watermelon to a strong thing like coffee.

If you are going to get SI juices, heres a tip. Buy 1 pack of prefilled in the same flavor and then the bottle. Use a prefilled carto then top it off with the bottle. You get 5 free ml that way.

If you are looking to sample flavors, turn one of the old cartos into a drip tester. Here is a video on how to do it, its very easy.

You might want to check out the bottom coil phoenix too. You get much better flavor from them and they last twice as long as a carto. I cant wait until SI gets their own version of them but they are available other places until then

Don't forget about the steeping factor too... sometimes flavors take a week or two to become what they were meant to be...

yup i waited for them to steep as well, i'll let them sit longer its been about 2 weeks for most of them or longer for some others we picked up from the local shop.

Just a stab, but maybe they weren't fully dry and there was still some residual funk in there? It takes me way longer than overnight to air-dry these. Also, I've never had much luck with just plain water, no matter how many times I rinsed. Carto fillers are a PITA to get clean, and they retain everything. Maybe try soaking overnight in plain PG + PGA/Vodka ("atty refresher" mix), then do your rinsing thing? People have had luck with that...but yeah, maybe there's something funky in the base that you don't like too...

If they were still damp, you might've been vaping the residual burnt-up crud left on the coil, mixed in with your juice, plus the taste of damp polyfill. That can taste pretty nasty...but I still think the filler wasn't clean enough.

Sitting down, facing forward.
I boil empty cartos for 10 minutes then "spin dry" them in a little gadget I made out of 1/2" plumbing PVC and a PVC end cap. (XLs hold a fair amount of water) If it's sunny I put them out on the rail of my deck for the day, then on top of my router for at least a day to completely dry. I like to maximize their life span to reduce waste (AKA I'm cheap). I do try to stay in the same flavor "family" but have mixed with no problems at all.
