So for various reasons I'm wanting to quit smoking (or at least cut back). I've quit a couple times, but foolishly started back up.:( I've been reading ECF posts for a few days, just enough to get myself thoroughly unsure of what I'm looking at, but reading these posts gives me hope that vaping might be the answer. I actually bought an ecig a few months ago, a 21st Century brand from a gas station, and it was horrible. It was like sucking on air. I've since learned that I was doing it wrong, and I'm willing to give vaping a second chance.

If it matters, I'm about a 1 - 1&1/2 PAD smoker (wimpy little cigs - Marlboro 72 ultra-lights), and I've been smoking for 20 years or so (except for the couple times I quit for a few months). I don't want to quit cold turkey, and I have buddies that come over every Friday for game night who smoke. I'd like to not have to kick them out of the house while we're gaming (interrupts the game, annoys all of us), and I figure that if I'm vaping while they're smoking, we can all be happy. I don't want a device that I'll have to be messing with all the time, rather something I pick up and just do my thing.

After doing some research on this site, and not knowing what I'm looking at half the time, I think I've decided to try an E-power (from Sweet-Vapes, if it matters). I get a choice of 2 atomizers or 5 cartomizers, thinking of going with the atomizers in the kit and ordering some cartomizers separate (cheaper that way if my math is right). (Oh, doing it that way cause I don't really know what the difference is between them, and I obviously don't know which I'd prefer.) I figure I'll order a bunch of juice samplers, maybe 10 different sampler size flavors; that way I can try a bunch to figure out what I like (Sweet-Vapes has em in 6mL bottles, but seems like a small selection of flavors).

So, the E-power (with 2 atomizers in kit) + a 5pack of cartomizers (2.0 ohm Boge 510 carts) + 10 6mL bottles of various juice. (Holy crap! Just guesstimated that at about $100! More than I'd planned, but I guess it's almost a month of smoking; just seems like a big chunk of change all at once!)

Since I'm suffering from analysis paralysis, my question is, is this a good deal? Is this the stuff I'll need to start successfully? Anything else I might need to start? Is there a better place to get this stuff (especially the juice)?

tl;dr - is the E-power from Sweet-Vapes a good idea for a beginner, and what else would I need?

Any hints, tips, and tricks would be appreciated! Thanks!

Hell yeah,18650 batts FTW!

You can use anything with that power...and VV to boot!

Its a great beginner kit :)

From what I read though, you got to use a bit of maths to keep the voltage at or below 3.7V though

And who knows, your pals might be ready to switch too,so brace yourself, get into the right frame of mind, endure those nights with great friends (after all!) and get that 24mg juice for those occasions.

@Hoosier - planned on having the juice in different flavors, hadn't even thought about strength. Thanks for the advice!

@martinc - "you got to use a bit of maths to keep the voltage at or below 3.7V though" I have absolutely no idea what you're talking about. Is this something to worry about with the E-power, or is it a VV thing? Yeah, I still gots a lot to learn! (Good lookin' dog, btw.)

Thanks, guys!

I didn't see anything variable voltage, VV, in your link. Looked like a straight forward 18650 e-power to me. Good choice to get started vaping with in my opinion.

If you get into different cartomizers/atomizers for it, you can just remember that the lower the resistance, Ohms, the greater the power/heat/vapor since it is a regulated voltage output. (And I seem to think that 1.8 Ohm or there abouts is the lowest you want to go on that unit.)

hi and welcome,

just to prepare you, but there is a certain amount of "messing around" you will have to do with e-cigs...it is not as easy as just picking up a cig. but I got used to it and figured that the time I spent messing around with my PVs was time I wasn't smoking and now I'm used to it and it doesn't usually bother me :)

I've been vaping for four months now and I still don't understand all the technical stuff that goes with it but persevere and it does become less confusing! I have taken a lot of wrong turns with vaping and sad to say it has cost me a small fortune BUT I finally got off the analogs last week and I can't believe how (95% of the time anyway) easy it has been so all the frustration and expense has been well worth it. I'd definitely recommend cartos as they are much less hassle although I have recently started dripping and that's probably been one of the big contributing factors that got me off the analogs. The other thing that has really helped is juice strength. From the beginning I'd been vaping 18mg as the couple of bottles of 24mg I tried tasted too strong and weren't a nice smooth vape. However after reading some posts on here I dug the couple of 5ml bottles I originally ordered out and used them as soon as I quit. They have proved to be very effective for the few intense cravings I get a day. I think the most important thing is to test things out and find what works best for you. It'll probably cost a bit but once you get into your stride and off the analogs it's totally worth it.

3.7V devices (like what you have now) work best with LR cartomizers, preferably Boge with 2.0 ohm rating, imho. So it's advisable not to buy any SR (2.5 ohm and higher) cartos for now. Why, because you'd be obligated to buy VV mods you don't need at this point. Nothing bad about it, but sometimes it's best to be satisfied with what you got and not rush into experiencing other devices which I personally think are just luxuries, which then hurt the pocket. (Well, if you don't mind inflicting pain to your pocket, go for it.) I got E-Power 14650 and with the right amount of nic (100% VG) it feels just like having a real cig.

Welcome to the forums - great place for advice and suggestions. BTW, I still allow smoking in my house. They smoke; I vape.

I will always stand up for smokers rights. the only reason I needed to quit was I could not afford the 2+ pad I was smoking. I've never even tried to quit. but vaping did it for me!

Same here about smokers' rights. I respect the wishes of the owner of the premises when I want to smoke, of course (go outside and all that, or don't smoke at all), but it should be up to the OWNER, not any government (local, state, fed, whatever). But I'm sure you all probably agree with me, so enough of that. For me, quitting is about both health and money - cigarettes are cheaper here than many other places from what I understand (a carton costs me about $32, and I've read posts where people are talking about $10 a pack, yikes!), but still. But for health reasons, yeah, I need to quit. Need to make a lot of lifestyle changes, but I won't go into that.

Thanks for all the replies and advice, y'all. You people are great! Think I'll go with the E-power, the Boge 2.0 cartos, and several juice samplers (what I'd planned on, wierd...).

Any more advice, fire away!

Don't forget to get at least one or two drip tips for those atomizers :) It sounds like a nice setup. I started with an epower and have been off the smokes for almost 10 months now. After the initial investment, you will find vaping is way cheaper than smoking.

Welcome dragonface and congrats on your decision for yourself and the kit that you've seleted. Once you have your PV it will make much more sense to you. Let me also give you one other piece of advice. Drink a lot of water. The base liquids, PG and VG will dehydrate you as they are humectants asorbing water from your body to produce the vapor. Good luck!
