Another newbie with questions

Started vaping about three days ago. It's different than cigs but I like it. I ordered a tobacco-flavored juice but the juice I got is more like caramel or butterscotch flavor than tobacco, lucky thing, actually, 'cause it's delicious and, if I'd started with tobacco flavor, it might've taken long till I tried others, and I'm finding vaping is a great new way to experience FLAVOR. ... and that brings me to my first question, I have a basic eGo starter kit off eBay that seems to be working great tho' it was not expensive ... I filled the ... um ... tank(?) (I think that's what it's called?) with the wicks with this caramel-flavor e-juice, but I'd like to try other flavors I also bought in a sampler pack. HOW do you clean the first e-juice out of the tank (or whatever it's called) so the next one will come through with true taste?

... and that's my big question right now, tho' I'm thinking I might just buy a bunch of eGo-tops on eBay and be done with it for awhile.

oh yeah, and another thing, once I've started vaping, I like to take a bunch more "hits" of vape than I ever did with a cigarette. Because I'm enjoying the flavor and blowing it through my nose and holding it in my lungs and just playing around with it. I basically smoked a third of a cigarette at a time, and that was it, about 4 or 5 cigarettes tops in a day. But I do still like my cigarettes too. I'm wondering if I'm overdosing myself on nicotine(?) since I'm taking so many more vape "hits" than I did of cigarette "hits."

So many things to wonder about.

Somebody please answer about how to clean the tank?

Hi Being,

Welcome to ECF!

You can just take your tank apart, rinse in hot water, dry as much as you can, put it back together, and you're good to go!
If you like switching up flavors, you'll find multiple tanks are a good way to go, so you can just switch it up when you want.

Your flavor of your liquids may change as the age/steep.
As far as overdoing it, your body will let you know. Just like with smoking...if you start feeling queasy...take a break!

Enjoy! :)

Each tank has it's own process to clean it out but basically it comes down to disassemble, wash with hot water, shake most of the water out and let it dry. There will be a hint of old flavor sometimes for the first few vapes but it will pass. Switching from a strong flavor to a mild one may take longer or as many people they keep one tank for their stronger flavors and another for the milder ones. I hope that makes sense.

As a light smoker you may want to stick with e-juice that has low amount of nicotine but you're not going to overdose on nicotine unless you start drinking the stuff by the cup full. Btw welcome to the forums and the wonderful world of vaping.

No matter how well you clean the atomizer, the thing the juice goes in, it will always have a little of the old flavor in it. If you put a different flavor in you will get a mix of the two for a while. If you can find a B&M store near you they often will be setup to have you taste their flavors. This was great in the beginning cause it allowed me to decide what types of flavors I like. Then I had a better idea of the flavors I wanted to try on the web.

If you want to vape more but are getting too much nic then you can move to a lower nic level and get the same amount with more vapor.

Wow, you guys are GREAT, thanks for all the answers! I'm going to buy a pack of 5 clearomizers right quick, so as to have extras to clean and then re-use. Do you HAVE to use the needle-thingy to put the e-liquid into the clearomizer? ... or can you just take your little tube of e-liquid and tilt it so the e-liquid slides down the side of the clearomizer? I only got one needle-tank thing with my kit, and it seems like it's handy but mine is still nearly full of my original flavor of e-liquid. I should have only filled it with a smaller amount! ... and I should have only filled my one clearomizer with a smaller amount, too, since I want to try more flavors asap.

There is soooo much to read on this forum!!!!! wow. So far I'm reading "The Wonderful World of Vaping" ... (so far up to part 2), "LOVING essential oils" (I'm a Clary Sage lover for the bath myself, would be cool if it could be vaped), and a bunch of stuff about which are everybody's favorite e-liquids. :) ... and the thread about possible dangers of some of the chemicals in e-liquids ... History of Vaping ... wow.

And I finally found out on an e-liquid forum that the kind of "tobacco-flavor" e-liquid I'm smoking is supposed to taste like tobacco with sweet caramel and vanilla ... because it's RY4 (named after the initials of the guy who invented vaping, I think?)

Most clearos can be filled directly from the nipple on the bottle. My Davides need a needle.

A Chinese pharmacist Hon Lik is generally regarded as the inventor. Herbert Gilbert developed a more primitive device, but couldn't get anywhere with it because of the powers that be.

You should be able to fill with the dropper bottle the juice comes in. If you buy a 120 ml (or larger, I suppose) bottle, it will not have a dropper tip. No matter, just be sure not to get it in that tube that runs up the center.

It's interesting stuff, isn't it? So much to know!

Rat2Chat, that link you posted led me (through your link) to "Inhalation Technique with an e-cigarette," which is telling me I'm worrying needlessly about overdosing on nicotine, since basically I've been mostly inhaling wrong. :) Yes, I've done some holding the vapor in my mouth, blowing it through my nose, but mostly I've been dragging on it like a cigarette and expelling the vapor and apparently, not absorbing much nicotine in the process. :?: 0mg, love your avatar, btw! If Hon Lik invented vaping, then where do the initials for RY4 come from? ... going back to "The Wonderful World of Vaping" part 1, looks like it was "Hon Lik of Ruyan" um ... RuYan ... as in RY but I give up about the 4. ... and now I can see if I added the link right ... oops, apparently I can't post links yet. Margie and DeloresRose, yes, there is so much to know, it's amazing.

I think a bunch of pages back on the Inawera thread, it mentions the name of the person who developed RY4, and his initials are R. Y., and it was his fourth mix. I don't remember how far back it was, and that is a humongous thread.

Thanks. I stole it from someone else. Much more appropriate for me.

I know I thought I wanted something that tasted as close to my analogs as I could get when I first started vaping. Then I sat down at my B&M's tasting bar and got over that notion fast.

Why would I want to taste nasty smoke when I could fill my taste buds with raspberry/white chocolate/almond, or Strawberry Orange Ice? It's like being able to eat dessert all day and never gaining an ounce. :)

Welcome to ECF and vaping!!
I started with "tobacco" flavors, and still use one, Mount Baker's Blu-Bacco; however, I have learned that no juice will taste like a cigarette. And, I am glad of that!! There are just some many combinations of flavors you could never go through them all!

If you have the chance, go to a B&M and try as many flavors as you can handle! Eventually, you will not be able to taste the flavors (search for Vaper's Tongue on the forum), but it fun to see what is out there!!!

Definitely go with multiple tanks. You can get those really cheap and some of the flavors will be so strong you'll never get the taste out. A perfect example is the Juice Mafia Juicy Fruit. Freaking amazing liquid that tastes just like the chewing gum, but for the life of me, I cannot get that flavor out of my wick/coils in my tank no matter how much hot water rinsing/soaking or soaking in Vodka I do.. It's a really strong flavor that will always be in that tank!

Welcome to ECF. The first name of RY4 was developed in China (don't have the name at the moment). It was called Ryan 4 and patented. The recipe was also a patent. Therfore no one can duplicate the original flavor. Hence the name RY4.

To clean the clearomizer I always use the highest grade alcohol I can find. Not the 70% from the drug store. I get mine off ebay. 99% or I'll use Everclear. 95% alcohol. Just be sure and let it dry really good before use. I always let mine dry overnight.
Good luck with your new journey.

Excellent question and answers, I just start yesterday and was wondering the same thing, cleaning, and too much nicotine, I filled mine up yesterday with Kentucky Gold, and decided to go with a lemonade, must admit the lemonade has a bit more desirable taste, been a pack and a half smoker, today I smoked 6 cigarettes so I am feeling much better with the vaporizing .

So his surmise that it is derived from R(u)Yan is probably correct.

You don't necessarily need new tanks, although I have a tank for each of the juices I use.

Shake well before using any juice.
For samples I use a 510 bridged atomizer (approx $5). Sample packs do not always include 'keepers'.
Drip 3-4 drops of juice on the coil and you should get 8-12 puffs. Enough to tell if you want to fill a tank with it.
Rinse with 4-5 drops of everclear or vodka shake and blow it out. Smell the tank. This will tell you if you got it clean. If you smell it you can taste it
2-3 dry burns 5 seconds on/off
The whole process takes less than 5 minutes.
Ready for the next sample.

Another more laborious route is to rinse the tank, replace the head with a new one.
Rinse with warm water, soak the 'dirty' atomizer head in alcohol everclear or vodka overnight, rinse with warn water, blow out the water. Let um dry and you're good to go.

Also be aware that a juice you may not care for may get better with age, 'steeping'. Some are good from the git go, while others may take a month. The point is juice you don't like on the first sampling might become a favorite after steeping. Set it aside and try it again next week or when ever.
