I don't often vape in public places where smoking is banned/inappropriate just out of respect for the uneducated who would think it was smoke. Generally no problem though. Plan on answering lots of questions from curious smokers.

I was asked by the owner of a little Bar/Grill I frequent to not vape when they are busy. He didn't mind but apparently someone in the back really thought we were smoking at the bar.

I've vaped everywhere I go... from the doctor's office to Wal-Mart to the police station. I've never had a bad experience to date. I get met with curiosity and a genuine want for knowledge on my e-cig so that they can offer it to co-workers, family members, or get it for themselves. It is also a real ice-breaker on dates! I think the only place I don't use my e-cig is the theater so I don't ruin anyone else's picture viewing with my vapor clouds. But, that's just me.

I am planning on getting family members one, or telling them about it, letting them try mine (the smokers that is).
I bought my best friend one, we're tired of all those chemicals (who isn't though).

I don't know if i would in a theater, because the light is pretty bright isn't it?

Anyone done it on an airplane? Going on one in February. and i'm wondering if they're going to give me crap for having my e-cigs? like while waiting for the plane even, or even in security? let me know.
thanks [:

Congrats! What did you order? Hopefully, you read a lot on this forum before making your selection ;)

I've vaped many places - usually stealthy when in stores 'n such, exhaling into my jacket or holding it in a bit (or a quick breathe in after the draw) to reduce the cloud.

I held out quite a while (without the huge withdrawal symptoms anymore!) while standing in line from midnight until 5am at BestBuy. Technically, I believe TN law includes "in lines" (which most in that line didn't seem to know LoL ewww, and I used to do that to people!)... but, when I finally was sneakin' puffs, and exhaling away from my neighbors in line, the one said, "Hey, do those things work?" At that point, I was like "zOMG you bet they do! It's been over a week, and I've tried so many other ways to no avail!".

No bad experiences yet, really - almost all positive now (except for a couple "disbelieving analog-toters" - but even they are seeing that I still haven't had another 'boro! They just express no desire whatsoever to dump the stink!), and most joke with me - "and you can do that at your desk!" I enjoy when certain folks come to bother me in my office, grabbing it like a fiend! They just laugh at me now ;)

I don't generally vape where smoking wouldn't be allowed, although I have stealth vaped at the grocery store. I'm vaping more openly in the office at work and I'm surprised to find more co-workers that support it.

I've only had one "bad" public experience that turned out to be quite funny. I was waiting at a shuttle stop on our local mall, vaping openly and two other ladies walked up. One of them started making coughing noises and made some remark under her breath about smokers. I turned around, looked her straight in the face and said "This isn't a cigarette and I'm not smoking, but thanks for faking!" Both of them walked away with red faces. It was hilarious!

Yeah, I'm kinda excited to show it to my doc - and especially get all the info together for his nurse! I kid with her, seeing her outside smoking ;) He's gonna have to be so excited... I just know it!

Early this year, when we thought our insurance was going to change to have a $50/mo surcharge for smokers, I went to doc for help (was NOT interested at all in trying Chantix tho, I'm crazy enough!). Insurance was going to provide the gum/patches for $5/mo or $10/3-mo supply, so how could I not try? Obviously, that worked out so well... (*not*) When picking the "therapy" I was going to try to go with, the insurance papers said they would *not* cover e-cigs. I had no idea what they were back when, and his reaction to it was like, "yeah, definitely uncharted territory and not deemed worthwhile." Flash forward to now, and boy has he got another story coming his way! He's gonna be bombarded with literature from me too!

I so plan to "demonstrate" it for him ;) and show him how great it works, for someone truly addicted to analogs in more ways than just the nic that the gum/patches address. Sorry, chewing straws or pen caps just don't cut it!

My older brother has been smoking for about 8 years, I recently asked him, would you be open to switching to an e-cig? and he said he would, it was pretty exciting. I haven't even received mine yet and a lot of my smoking friends have asked me about it cuz they are interested in making the switch.
I don't care if it doesn't taste like a cigarette, or if the cloud when i exhale isn't huge, if i'm not going to smell like ...(aka cigarettes) and Not inhaling those chemicals, it doesn't matter. lol
I was watching some youtube reviews on different ecigs, and people are thinking its supposed to be like a real cig, like smoke and everything... I tried my friends ecig and i liked it.

I would of done the same!

I love this story! I am so waiting to get to use that line myself ;) Hubby was always the one "so allergic" to my smoke - yet, it only seemed to really bother him when he SAW it. Now, after not smoking, I don't know how he didn't react when he didn't see it... now I'm the one coughing at cow-orkers ;) heheh

I've vaped in airports, bars (I did ask our server if it was ok) and other people's homes (with permission). I've also stealth vaped on an airplane. So far, no problems. A few people have asked what the contraption is that I'm "puffing" on, but nobody has had a problem with it. I just use common sense. It's logical to me to try it in places where it used to be acceptable to smoke, but I would never, for instance, vape in church or anywhere else where smoking was never acceptable.

So if i wanted to smoke in the airport, would i just go up to someone at my gate and ask if it's acceptable to vape there?
I mean i guess if i was terrified i could hide in my coat, or in the bathroom, lol

and they're fine in security?

I am a frequent flyers and travel through all the major airports and many regional airports. I wont vape in a security line and or make it public. Just being curtious and really don't want to attract attention. I would hate to miss a meeting or put my job on the line. I have sneaked a vape and will hold it in getting off the plane walking down the gateway. (No Cameras :) )

The ECF store has business cards that you can order for just the cost of shipping. I ordered them and they are great to hand out to interested people, I love that there is a little space to write in your forum name and/or email.

CASAA | The Consumer Advocates for Smoke-Free Alternatives Association has a very imformative tri-fold brochure you can download and print to hand out to people if you find yourself in an awkward vaping situation. It explains what an e-cig is, and is a great resource for someone interested in learning more about vaping.

no combustion by-products, so vaping will not trigger "smoke" detectors.

Thats not entirely accurate.
Some smoke detectors work by sending an alarm when a measure of smoke obfuscates a beam of light that runs between the source and a detector.
Ionizing detectors work by detecting a disruption of current between cation and anion within the detector.

Could e-cig vapors bind to ions within the current? Maybe.
There are particles within the smoke, smaller definitely than 'conventional' smoke.

I wouldn't be so quick to assume that the vapor/smoke is really undetectable.

My concern about vaping on a plane comes more from pissing off people around me and alarming the flight attendants.
