I've been a smoker for over forty years (yet do not consider myself a geezer), and am surprised at how indoctrinated I've become to the increasing number of places where smoking is not allowed. I carry my new eGo clone along when I go shopping, and I show it off to other people I encounter who are buying cigs. Some are actually curious and interested. But I do feel a bit odd to take even a single hit indoors.

I have only been vaping about a week. It's gonna take me a little while to retrain my brain. It is great to know I will not have to trudge miles to find a place where smoking is permitted, in an airport, for instance, or govt. building. I would not hesitate to duck into a bathroom to vape in those circumstances, but I guess that's stealth vaping.

I don't have much to add to this thread, but am trying to get through my first five posts. Got "posting anxiety" so usually am much more comfortable reading what others write but I would like to participate.

congrats on kicking the loooooong habbit. Rest assured it gets nothing but easier (been vaping 5 weeks from a 15yr habbit) working on converting a friend who was a 30yr smoker (he is down to less than 1/2 pad and was 3+ just a week or so ago).

Thanks but I haven't quite kicked it. Have smoked 3 or 5 ryo cigs daily. It's getting easier to forget to smoke; I just jonesed for the carbon monoxide sometimes.

So many chems in analogs that are bad long term, but I really think the carbon monoxide is the worst thing from analogs as far as feeling general wellness which is immediately noticable when quitting/cutting down substantially. Ive read it takes 7 days or so to filter out of your body. I have much more energy in the evenings now that I have quit analogs. Be patient and you will get there.

The ECF store has business cards that you can order for just the cost of shipping. I ordered them and they are great to hand out to interested people, I love that there is a little space to write in your forum name and/or email.

CASAA | The Consumer Advocates for Smoke-Free Alternatives Association has a very imformative tri-fold brochure you can download and print to hand out to people if you find yourself in an awkward vaping situation. It explains what an e-cig is, and is a great resource for someone interested in learning more about vaping.

I just wanted to thank you, Brewlady, for sharing the CASAA website. I printed out 30 of the tri-fold brochures and stuck them in my purse. Saves me so much talking! I made my own business cards, though. I didn't like the ECF ones. Just my taste though.

Thanks so much!!!

So if i wanted to smoke in the airport, would i just go up to someone at my gate and ask if it's acceptable to vape there?
I mean i guess if i was terrified i could hide in my coat, or in the bathroom, lol

and they're fine in security?

I stealth vaped in the airport and on the plane, however while in the airport, I did go into a bar and ask if it was ok to vape in the bar and the bartender said it was ok.

I would really only be wary on a plane, and then I would just hold it in extra long and exhale. Almost no visible vapor that way.

Exactly, I just took a couple of quick hits and practically no vapor was exhaled. There was an empty seat between me and the other passenger in my row so he couldn't even see me.

Hi and Welcome to ECF.
I personally never vape in public. I have always had the opinion of "If they don't smoke, then i don't smoke around them" and even though I was a smoker, i still HATED the smell of it when walking around town or entering a shopping centre. Smokers are very inconsiderate people so i vowelled to never be one of those.

I don't think smokers are any more inconsiderate than others. In fact, I think we've been conditioned to be more considerate than some.

By that do you mean, smokers don't throw their cig butts all over the places and litter our streets and virtually ALL public places making the surrounding area look disgusting. Smokers also don't congregate around the entrances to every building filling the air with their smoke and being forced to inhale it when walking past.
Even though i too was a smoker having the same filthy habit as theirs, all these things absolutely ...... me off and worst thing is ........ clearly they don't care about the people around them.

People who throw trash on the streets are inconsiderate, smokers and otherwise. When public buildings put ashtrays outside their doors, smokers will smoke there. I don't think that smoking outside is inconsiderate at all. The things people do that I find inconsiderate are most likely not the same things that you find inconsiderate. To claim that most smokers are inconsiderate is no different than me stating that most cell phone users are inconsiderate. Some people have good manners and common sense and some don't. Simple. BTW, are you sure you used to be a smoker? Just asking.

hehe yeah, but i always respected that "most" non smokers hate the smell of smoke so i never smoked around those people but if we were out (party or whatever) i would always walk away from where everyone else was to have a smoke or at the very least, stand a few meters down wind of them.
I kept doing this as it was ridiculous how often people asked why i was doing this and when i gave the explanation, the were gob smacked as no smoker does this and they always thanked me. I got thanked that many times it was hard to not continue doing it.

That's basically how I'd always behaved as well, but moreso out of habit from doing it for friends/family that didn't smoke - so they wouldn't whine and complain and give me grief for doing it LoL It just carried forward to the rest of my time as well. Heck, even outside smoking with cow-orkers, I generally tried to keep my smoke from going towards others. Certainly didn't get many thanks, so that's not why I did it ;)
