Hi All,

Complete newbie here. Currently smoke a pack a day of regular cigarettes. About to make the change to vaping. Just waiting for my e-cig to arrive. I've heard folks talk about dehydration when vaping. I'm just wondering, if this is true, how bad is it? Is this just a minor thing or can this be a serious issue? Does everybody experience this? Are there any other weird side effects one can experience when vaping?

Any wisdom would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks. :)

When you vape, what comes out of your mouth is your body's water, hence the name (vaper) If you don't drink plently of fluids, when you wake up the next morning, your mouth is going to feel like the Sierra Desert. I've found that sucking on a mint helps just as much as drinking, and it dosen't necessarilly have to be water, just drink something.

I got pretty darn dry my first week or two! It's a little better now, but still drinking a lot of water, which was a habit I needed to take up anyway. I would wake up in the middle of the night once or twice for water, which I've never done before. While dehydration can, of course, be a serious issue if left unchecked, this is very manageable by just increasing your fluid intake. It wasn't awful.

And welcome, by the way!! I was in the same boat as you about 4 weeks ago, just getting started. Vaping is so much better than smoking & I'm crazy-glad I gave it a shot because now I'm free of the stinkies! Best of luck to you!

Most "Westerners" spend the majority of their life UNDER hydrated. The worst symptoms I suffered in the beginning relating to hydration were cotton mouth, raw feeling throat, and undying thirst. So upping your water intake is highly recommended and will do your body a lot of good in several ways, one of which is helping your body detox the thousands of chemicals involved with inhaling burnt cigarettes that much faster.

There are a myriad of possible symptoms related to quitting smoking that you may or may not experience. There's a nice list of them in the New Members Information forum. I highly suggest to all new vapers that they find that and read it thoroughly. It will likely save the inevitable panic involved as your body starts to heal and repair itself.

I didn't agree with you, but then you winked...

@moonwalker, it varies between vapers. It is more noticeable IMO when you first start vaping. But I have been vaping over 2 years and it doesn't phase me much at all. But just drink some water everyday regardless. I usually fill up a quart bottle with water/ice and drink it on way to work, and maybe another during the day. It will also help you wash away the effects of analogs.

As far as other weird things, tobacco withdrawal may appear in many different ways. I think there are a few threads here IRT to those sort of things.

A dry mouth does NOT mean you are de-hydrated. This can be a reaction to the vapour itself of any other thousand reasons.

That can be true too.

However, water not only helps keep you hydrated, but it is also the single best thing you can do for yourself to help your body get rid of the nastiness that has been building up from a whole bunch of chemicals you never want to see again. Seriously. Drink water. Even one extra glass a day is a good thing, regardless of whether you do it because you're vaping or just because you want to feel better on whole.

I drink 1 1/2 liters per day. Also had to cut my java down from 10+ cups to 3. I now actually really enjoy water. Used to drink Coca Cola...can't stand the taste anymore. Dehydration can cause ulcers in the mouth, dry nasal area, sore throat, itchy skin and other things. New vapers will experience dehydration as the body uses more fluids to aid in tissue repair. After the first 2 weeks some new vapers wonder why vaping isn't as good as when they first began and discover they were dehydrated. When I first began vaping I was very aware of dehydration but purposely avoided cutting my java down and drinking extra water...didn't kill me but all sorts of weird bothersome issues began popping up. Began hydrating and all was good.
When we vape the majority of the moisture is taken from our throat, mouth and, if inhaling/ exhaling through the nose, the nasal area. The body reacts and sends extra fluid to those areas thus a shortfall for the rest of the body.

I vape 9 to 12ml of juice a day, and I dont get Dehydrated. I vape 6mg/ml juice. I know if you try to chain vape high nicotine juice it will give you a headach. Try reaching for the e-cig insted of anologs when you get a craving. for me I still smoked anologs, 2-4 a day, for the first week i started my e-cig. try to limit the amount of pulls to mimick the amount of a anolog. you will find a good range that works for you, just give it time. And welcome to the nation!

I've been vaping for nearly a year and a half, stinkie free all that time. I still chug down a lot of water a day, have nearly stopped drinking coffee (found out I no longer liked the taste of it after getting off cigs) but I vape espresso, go figure;)

Everyone gets dehydrated vaping. Some more than others, some just don't notice it. If you drink alcohol in any form you will be further dehydrated by it.

Water is useful in helping repair the body's damage from smoking cigs, IMHO.

Vape as much as you want, be mindful of the over nic symptoms, queasy stomach, headache. If you really need your PV in your had all day get some juices at a lower nic for the pacifier need, use the higher nic juices when stressed, first thing in the morning, etc.

YMMV

well it is certainly noticeably different from cigarette smoke...its a dry, cool mist that you inhale as opposed to smoke from what was once a plant....if you really want to see how it is before you get your kit though, i suggest grabbing a disposable and trying it out a bit first, that way you'll know how your body reacts to it, as all people are different....i got over the dehydration issue fairly easily as i work outside and bring an ice chest with 10-12 bottles of vitamin water with me daily.

When I fiirst started I was vaping like a maniac and not drinking. My skin was very dry and flakey, especially my face. Took me awhile to realize it was from vaping. Now I drink all of the time, always have water with me. Doesn't seem to be an issue anymore so I guess I'm drinking enough. Also I've eased up on the vaping now that I'm not obsessed with wanting an analog!

I haven't noticed any other signs other than the obvious "Hey, drink some water" that my body was sending to me. I have woken up a few times pretty dry, but that was from having a few cocktails and vaping my face off the night before. As many have said, it is really manageable. Just increase your water intake. It will become habit.

I would also recommend grabbing some Listerine or something along those lines. Really helps keep any other "issues" at bay.

For me it was a pretty major issue, because I have never been much of a water drinker to start with. I always had something to drink in hand, just never water, coffee, tea, pop, where my standards.

Couple things that helped me drink more water. One bf gave me a very nice over priced water bottle, ok I admit it I love the thing, and because I knew how much he paid for it I damned sure was gonna use it. The other thing I did was I got some water flavor drops from Capella. Much cheaper than flavored waters at the store, I could mix what I wanted, and they don't use all the food coloring some places use.
