Just ordered a eGo twist 1000mah, Vision Vivi Nova 2.0ml Mini, and a bunch of juice. I might have gone a little high on the nicotine content but hopefully not too overboard. I think (and hope) I picked a good product for a beginner and I hope the learning curve isnt too steep.

Does nicotine affect the taste? (ie would 0 nicotine of a certain flavour taste the same as 12mg or 18mg nicotine of the same flavour juice?)

About me.. well unlike a lot of people I am not a heavy smoker to begin with.. I can go onths without smoking, although lately I have been smoking maybe 2-3 a week (cigs, not packs) so really I wont be saving a ton of money with this, most likely this will end us costing me more in the long run.. However I am hoping it will allow me to do a couple things. A) give up analog completely, which if nothing else, will get the wife off my back and let me buy life insurance as a non smoker and B) allow me to keep on 'smoking' guilt free, and go out for those stress relieving puffs, or out with my friends for a puff, and not have to worry.

Thanks to any and all advice I get now and in the future.

PS. Especially would love to hear about good places to order from in Canada where the prices are decent, and if someone can point me in the direction of juice reviews or a thread where people list their favoriates?

PPS. Mine hasnt even shipped yet and its driving me crazy! SHIP already! I want to try this now!

Just an assumption but considering how little you smoke I would say you probably shouldn't go above what the cig-a-like companies quote as high which I think is 18mg. I start at 32mg but I'm a long time 1-2pad smoker so... take from that what you will.

Your setup seems fine for a beginner, many of us started with less ;-)

"Does nicotine affect the taste?"
I've never noticed a difference.

It doesn't sound to me like you're nicotine-dependent. So, if I were you, I would go zero nic. Many here do. Then all you need to purchase is PG/VG and flavoring and mix to your taste (DIY)... never having to worry about where to get juice where you live. As for flavor changes with nic content, yes with some vendor's nic base it does have its own flavor but another vendor's has no flavor so that really can't be answered very well. Somewhere here on the forum there is a breakdown by vendors on both flavor and color of their nic. Some are completely clear and flavorless. What I'm trying to say is that whether or not nic adds to the flavor depends on the vendor's nic source. If you do happen to like the taste of some of the nics, you can duplicate that even with flavorings.

I did get a couple of 0 nic flavours (mostly in case the wife ever got curious and wanted to try, I wanted to make sure to have something she would like) but I actually do like the 'buzz' you get from nic. The ones I got were 18, so I guess not super high in the grand scheme of things

This is JMHO but smoking no more than what you do, I wouldn't develop a nic habit if I didn't already have one. I think you'll find that vaping is so enjoyable you're going to want to do it more than you did smokes which will start to taste nastier and nastier to you as you do more vaping... so, again, I would make sure I'm not taking more nic than I did smoking... I would definitely get low (6 or 3 nic) to no nic to fill in between the desired "buzz." If you buy 6, 3, 0 ... whatever... along with your 18, you can mix them to lower the strengths and enjoy more vaping.

Welcome to fellow vaper. We almost have the same setup aside from the tank ( I have the 3.5ml). Twists are good. On the nic level, I explained to my vendor that used to smoke a pack of "Mediums" a day. He suggested me to have a nic level of 12mg. So far so good, never went back to analog. Happy vaping my friend

This may be a stupid question but I am watching my sugar intake and calories and whatnot. With all these 'sweet' liquids, is it a whole lot of sugar, or not in quantities enough to really worry about?

Ejuice contains no sugar nor other calories. If it did, it would kill the atomizer that creates the vapor. Many dieters/diabetics vape for the flavors they can't experience in foods. Go to youtube and watch steeljan videos... she's one that vapes zero nic for flavor only.

Oh, there are no "stupid" questions. I'm going to steal from a fellow member who said "The only stupid question is the one not asked." I agree... ask away... its probably been asked before actually.

Is DIY easier and less scary than the warnings make it out to be?

I had a bad experience with it myself and I've recently had bad experiences with the "cheap chinese juice" as well. I'm starting my foray into boutique juices and so far am having a really good experience. If you'd like a few recomendations you can check my "rec me a vendor" thread. I'll be updating it as I try the different vendors. The down side for you is that I believe they are all American vendors and I'm not sure how the shipping across borders works. Idea, I'm sure you could start another thread asking for Canadian vendors though. :)
