Okay, you all wonderful people.....here is the next question:

I am building a 5v PT, no battery, plugs in straight to my USB external hub.

Question is on the switch. I really do not like the Horn type of switch I have on my nicostick type box mod. The switch on the nicostick is 3Amp.

What would be your recommendation for a switch for a 5V PT.......I was reading on MV yesterday and confused about the AMPs.........what switch would suffice to make an awesome 5V PT. I know nothing about AMPs except that I need at least a 2AMP USB wall adapter.......lol.....Pretty soon I will get this dang thing built. My son is coming home for a visit on the 19th for the weekend......he has an electrical engineering degree from West Point and I want all the parts ready and waiting so we can do it together.

Thanks, everyone, you are the bestest!!

Off to the $1 store for a bit to see what they have for me to mod......Natura got me going on this....gotta see what they have...lol...

Hi Sandyk, you'd want to go for at least a 2 amp switch.. Not to throw a wrench into the works but powering directly from the USB without some type of short circuit protection is a bit risky. It's more work but you could incorporate a 5 volt regulator with control pin (reg1) into your design. If you did that it does raise the complexity but provides a lot of safety and then you can use any switch you want connected to the control pin..

Good luck with your project, hoog,..

I was told you don't need a regulator is using USB (I am not plugging in directly to the USB on the computer.......I am using a USB hub with it's own power supply) or I will be using a 2amp usb wall adapter).

Here is the quote from Mike: "You don't need a regulator if you're using USB-it's a 5v output." He recommends wall-plug usb charger that provides at least 1amp but 2amp is better.

Hoogie what switches do you sell that fit that 2 amp criteria?????

Will these work, Hoog........are these momentary????

Push Button Switch -- Red
Item Id: MVSWPBRD
Nice switches.. These are not the cheapies that you find in local stores, these have a totally different actuator.. 3/4" total length not including the easy leads. 1/2" standard profile but adjustable by placing another nut on the threads. 1/4" mounting hole. 12 Volt, 2 amp. Cap Color: Black

Will it work with this box?

2 x AA Battery Box with no switch
Item Id: 2XAABOXNS
2 x AA Battery Box Nice boxes with plenty of room to work. Holds 14500 protected batteries without modification. Because there is not master on/off switch, theres a little extra room to work in there. These are the same size as the 2xAA box with the switch. Batteries are not included and shown for illustrative purposes only. Sample Projects
