DAMN, it's the NHK guy!
Three and a half years living here and I've managed to avoid NHK every time, but this time when I heard the doorbell ring my excitement got the better of me and I opened the door without looking through the peephole first. What a kick in the kintama! Here I was thinking I'd be opening a fresh package of juice from MVB, and instead I spend 15 minutes standing in my genkan trying to get NHK off my back while freezing cold air pours into my apartment.
As you probably know, if you own any device that can be used to receive NHK broadcasting (as I understand it), you are required by law to enter into a contract with NHK. I'm not so good at playing the "sorry, I don't speak Japanese" card, so this ended up being an ordeal. I eventually convinced him that I needed time to read over the contract before signing it, and he agreed to come back another time to collect my money. If he catches me again, I'm not sure what I'll say. I'll probably ask him what the repercussions are for not paying, and regardless of how he answers, tell him I'll go that route.
Honestly, if I watched TV at all I would gladly pay, but my TV isn't even plugged in. I only use it for my PC.
So how about you guys? Are you paying NHK or not? If not, how are you avoiding these guys?
