Any alternatives to Cartomizers?

So, i'm pretty new to vaping, and recently purchased a provari 2.5 + ibtanked (hafling tank+cartos) setup.

But, to my dismay, it seems cartomizer aren't very efficient, because out of the 8 carts i got, like maybe 3-4 worked nicely, while some just seemed faulty, either dont draw well, or just ends up burning (eventhough i primed the cartomizers perfectly and made sure they are saturated with eliquid)

In addition, eventhough you could clean the cartomizers, while some you do get some use out of it again, others simply just dont draw well anymore. On top of that, if you try to re-use these carts that you just cleaned, if they dont work well anymore, you still ended up priming the carts and end up wasting tons of e-liquid in the process.

Can you guys tell me your experience with cartomizers? ibtanked? and is there an alternative way to vaping? something better than cartomizers?

I started with a cigalike e cig (V2 Cigs) with cartos and quickly learned that they're definitely not that great. I have seen some that look better but I personally don't like them at all. I switched to clearomizers (a tank). You buy e liquid and you fill the tank up with juice and vape it. You still have to prime it but you just drip the juice into the tank and let it sit for a few minutes and then shes ready to go. They don't leak very often if you get a good one. I'd recommend checking out a Kanger Aerotank v2 or an Nautilus Aspire. They're a couple of the good ones out there right now IMO.

While some people still use and love cartos, there are many other options out there. There's a whole world of clearomizers, tanks, and rebuildables just waiting for you.

If you don't want to get into rebuilding, I think the hot clearo tanks right now are the aero tanks, but I don't have any experience with those so I'll leave that for the next person who comes along.

I would say that the best progression from a carto would be a Kayfun.

However a lot has to do with how a carto is used. Things like food coloring, sweeteners, and dark flavors kill cartos.
I use 3 ohm Boge cartos in a tank on my Provari at about 4.4v, and with a clear flavor they will last a month or more.

I use this carto, and punch them myself.
    Boge 510 Blank Cartomizer Standard Resistance 3.0 oHM 5 Pack – ElectronicStix.Com
and use this tank. Mine are over three years old, and still look/work like new.
    Standard J-Tank (3.3ml) – ElectronicStix.Com
Makes for a pretty economical vape that works well.

Dont get a kayfun. You will get frustrated. Start w a Nautilus w BVC coils. You will be very happy. If you can find a Beyond Vape Silo tank, I recommend that. Still use it w the Nautilus BVC coils though. If you want to get into rebuildables, do a little research and think about a kayfun. They are not for beginners IMO.

    NOT a tank.

Carto tanks are the original tanks, created right here on ecf by talented modders.Way back when clearomizers leaked like sieves and were avoided like the plague.

Clearomizers are only tanklike in that they have a juice reservoir and for many of us are are a serious step backwards in taste and vapor production from a carto tank.

As far as brands of carto to use in your tanks, try Smoktech XL cartos from Smoktek.com. Ive also heard very good things about Ikenvape platinum.

If youre using these cartos to taste new juices, then Id recommend buying a dripper atty and some plain pg/vg in whatever blend you prefer. Some sites even call it flavor eraser.

Once youve determined you like the juice THEN setup a carto tank with your flavor and quality carto and enjoy 2-3 weeks of vaping.

In terms of flavor, I'd rate the following juice delivery devices from lowest to highest:

    Prefilled carto

    Clearomizer /clearotank

    Carto tank

Rebuildable Atomizer (also sometimes called a tank because it has a juice reservoir)

    Dripper

    Hope that helps

No, you are wrong, cartos are NOT the original tank.

i can't say i'm up on the absolute latest from iken. though last i heard, Isaac was planning on possibly revisiting the platinum line up. it's been a couple months but at that time the platinums were discontinued. inconsistencies from the manufacturer IIRC.

they were replaced with the nitro line. which are fantastic cartos, might i add.

My go-to carto was a Boge XXL unpunched - A compromise between quality and cost. I would get maybe 1 in 7 bad ones. Normally the fault was restricted airflow but sometimes they would just burn when first used.
If the problem is restricted airflow than you can try gently inserting a toothpick up through the 510 hole to clear any blockages. If the carto burns then it needs to be thrown away. I have never successfully rejuvenated a carto and i have tried everything including boiling them !
WARNING; if you go the Kayfun route it will ruin you for cartomisers and tanks. You will never be satisfied with a carto-tank set up after using a well coiled and wicked Kayfun. I have 200 odd cartos and a dozen tanks gathering dust in a drawer since buying a couple of Kayfuns.

really? the 8 carts i bought .. they are just not consistent enough, some just seem faulty, while some have the coil with the paper not even aligned completely vertical... they slant to one side with the paper sticking out in 45 degrees angle.

i just tried the iclear30s clearmizer that came with my provari 2.5... it's consistent right off the bat without even having to do all the priming, lifting the tank cap up and forcing air in, or sticking a pin down the side of the cart and prime it from the top... i think i'm pretty much done with cartomizers at this point. it's just too much hassles, and you never know how many cartomizers are going to be faulty or not.

Sure, you can step out of the Dark Ages and join the 21st Century.

    :)

Seriously, I have difficulty wrapping my mind around anyone still using cartos. To each his own, some people would rather walk or ride a horse than drive.
I tried a Carto once and hated it from the start.
Spheroid holds juice kinda like a carto but coils and hits like an RBA. The thing I always hated about Kayfuns was that when I'd screw up the wicking I always had to drain the tank to mess with the coil/wick. The juice and coil are two separate parts and can be serviced individually.

Dude I freakin love your avatar!

Much as Id hate to parrot what others are saying, I agree that at this point the cartomizers are old tech. I find that even a kanger protank is superior in production and flavor, and the aerotanks and nautilus even moreso. RBA and drippers are an evolution further if you've the stomach for rebuilding.
