If this is the wrong board for this, I apologize and please direct me to the right place! Wondering if there are any vapers who are also into fitness? It seems like a bit of an oxymoron, but I quit smoking after I got pregnant with my oldest except for "special occasions" like a trip to Vegas. After my youngest was born I fought hard to lose 60 lbs and began working out once most of the weight was off. Unfortunately, I also picked up smoking again somewhere along the line (a cig here and there eventually became more and more). It was when I started noticing the effects it had on my workouts that I made the switch to vaping.

Curious if anyone else likes to work out but also vapes? Do you feel like it effects your performance at all? While I feel considerably better than when I was smoking, I still wonder if vaping might be making things more difficult. My brother mostly lifts and he doesn't feel vaping effects him at all, while I prefer running so maybe that makes a difference.

I'm an enthusiast for women in yoga pants....does that count?

Just kidding...I ride my bike to and from work during nice weather. While smoking cigarettes, I would be totally out of breath by the time I got home (20 minute ride) Since switching to vaping, I can ride faster and longer...I take scenic routes most times and a 20 minute ride turns into 45 minutes and when I get home, I still have enough to ride with my kids for 30 minutes or so.
So, in conclusion, I think you'll find that not only does it improve lung function and capacity but your energy comes back as well.
I wish you good luck and Vape On!

My wife and I are both avid fitness enthusiasts (primarily lifting) and we both vape. Neither one of us experiences any negative effects on our workouts.
I really like running but don't want to be "skinny fat" so I've been lifting as well. I really worked hard (at least I felt like I was!) before a trip we took and felt discouraged that I didn't make the gains I was hoping to. Overall I just feel like I should be more "in shape" than I feel I am, given how long I've been working out regularly. I still get pretty out of breath during my workouts and I haven't been able to lift much heavier weights than when I started. Of course I'd love to have an excuse like vaping is keeping me from making gains but maybe I'm just working out wrong :(

The positive side is that I don't really want to quit vaping, so if that's not what's holding me back then that's great!

Fitness? Sure.....
"Fitness" burger in my mouth!:D

Seriously though, after my heart attack in '12, lost 120 lbs by dieting & working out, but the cigs were still always there- limiting my cardio. I really had to cut down on lifting though because the statins I am on hurt my muscles somethin' fierce when exercising as much as I wanted to. Nowadays I've only gained back about 25 lbs & aren't working out as much but my breathing & stamina are improved.

Working out is a science in and of itself. If you want to make gains, diet is absolute key, particularly your protein intake. No matter how heavy you lift, if you don't consume enough nutrients to fuel muscle growth, you won't bulk up. Do you keep track of your macros?

Yep, I try to get 150 grams of protein in although that's easier said than done. I do have a wicked sweet tooth that I'm always fighting. I also have hypothyroidism and my metabolism is pretty much shot. If I eat more than 1500 calories a day I gain, even doing 45 min of cardio and heavy weight (for me), low rep lifting 4-6 days per week.

Sounds like you definitely know what you're doing! Don't be afraid to incorporate protein shakes into your diet. If you'd rather avoid the calories that come with those, you can opt for BCAAs, as those help your body metabolize fat without affecting your muscle mass. CLAs (conjugated linoeic acids) are also a part of my supplement intake, as they assist in natural weight loss.

I'll have to look into those! Right now I use ISO 100 protein powder as that's about the only way I can get my protein in without going over on calories. It's 110 calories for 25 grams of protein, so not bad, but I'm going to look into those other supplements. I think I just need to refocus and keep on keeping on, I'm sure I'll see the results I want eventually. Thanks for the advice, and I'm happy to hear vaping shouldn't get in the way of my goals

I dropped about 15 lbs and man it was a struggle to do that. My age worked against me at first. I had to use a diet program to count all the caloric intake, which also tracked what kind of calories the good and the bad. The program was great in that it would track if I needed more of one thing to counter something else (percentage wise).

I did find that I was able to go longer on the elliptical before becoming breathless. Working up to a sweat helped. Changing up the routine each time is key also. Your body gets used to the same old - same old and quits burning as much calories.

I no longer am 'dieting' nor am I exercising. Once I got down past my goal, it is a matter of stepping on the scales each morning and monitoring what I eat.

I do go for walks though and really enjoy being outside (now that the weather is cooler here in Florida  )

I honestly can say that I am now able to do more without becoming breathless. I can actually jog up the drive, and back, to get the vape mail!

I also used a weight loss app, and unfortunately I think I'm doomed to having to track calories pretty much forever. With my thyroid messed up I gain weight just looking at "cheat" foods. I also weigh every morning to make sure I'm staying on track. I've kept the weight off for 3 years now so I guess it works! It's a bummer that for me it will always be a struggle to keep balanced.

Congrats on your weight loss! There's nothing to motivate a jog like vape mail waiting for you, right? Lol

^^^^^This exactly! One thing that many people do not keep in mind, is that you cannot out-train bad nutrition. :thumb:

Do you take synthroid? Or any thyroid supplement?
