just got my first e-cig today, still trying to work the kinks out of getting flavor since my juices have seemed bland. I've just been inhaling into my lungs, not really getting anything out of it, noticed I got a little more taste just by keeping it in my mouth (though hard to do currently)

Is it is custom to just inhale through lungs, or just mouth, or just something I should experiment with? I know everyone is different, but wanted to know since I feel that my e-cig works fine (nebula/kr808), and the flavors should work fine (viking & v4l), so its probably just my technique that I need to work on.

Thanks. :)

The thing is, everyone's taste is different. But what most will agree on is that the basic liquids / flavors you get with a new kit aren't going to win any prizes.

You can try and see which way to go by getting some Lorann's flavors and adding them carefully in tiny quantities direct to the cart with a small syringe (no needle by the way - the plastic extension tips are good for this). Try toffee, caramel, butter rum - they are fairly strong. Also you can get menthol crystals and dissolve them to create your own add-on flavor, but be careful as this is extremely strong in small quantities. I prefer peppermint oil food flavoring, the pure natural type, there is a big difference between mint and menthol. Mint goes really well with tobacco.

This way you'll see that the basic stuff isn't really where it's at. You can make your own or maybe better, buy it ready-made from any of the Suppliers here who specialize in this area.

You may find you need a high nic strength liquid to start, for various reasons. To get a decent hit you need to inhale very lightly for at least 4 seconds, then exhale slowly through the nose. If you can't inhale for 4 seconds plus into the mouth, then alternate mouth and lung inhales. When using the mouth, keep it there for a couple of seconds, then inhale, then out through the nose. There is a theory that ecig vapor works better in the mouth and nose than the lungs. The secret with a standard ecig is the extended light inhale, the tobacco cig technique of a short, hard inhale gets you nowhere, especially with low-strength eliquid (nicotine-wise).

When it comes to vaping, I agree with rolygate in that for me anyway, I take long and light vapes. I have always taken my cigarette smoke in my mouth and then into my lungs but we are all different.

The higher the nicotine level, the more throat hit you'll get. With e-cigs there is a bit of a learning curve and with time you'll get much better at it and enjoy it much more.

Good luck and don't get frustrated.

I noticed when I first started vaping I couldn't taste anything either. But as time went on, and my taste buds recovered from not smoking analogs (I stopped smoking analogs cold turkey when I started vaping), I'm now beginning to detect more and more of the flavor.

Maybe you just need to give it more time.

That's twue. One of my fave juices is a rum flavor from Vaporenu, and exhaling through my nose delivers a satisfying taste.

Absolutely true. I am a cigar smoker and we call it Retrohaling.

The act of exhaling cigar smoke through the nasal passages to increase aroma sensations through retronasal olfaction.

Yet, with cigars, it sometimes gives a good peppery burn and sometimes too much! Depending on cigar. Not with e-cigs though.

Good luck.

I have a KR808 as well, and I get more of everything by popping a 901 atty on... more flavor, more vapor, etc.. The KR808's are a great idea, but I just can't seem to get them to perform. You might try ordering a dse901 atty and pop it on your KR808 battery. That gives me great vapor and flavor. The KR808 batteries kick the 901 batteries' ...!

Even with really weak-tasting liquids, I find that taking light, long draws helps me taste the flavors. When you start sucking, just suck with enough force to move the vapor into your mouth, don't suck hard. Most times I can taste the flavor as it enters my mouth, directly on the top of my tongue. When exhaling, don't force it out. Lightly exhale, some through the mouth, some through the nose, and there should be some aftertaste. That's my method, it seems to work well.

The flavorings can be tricky. There are oils, some have other things like water, or alcohol, and I think the oil-based ones tend to settle in the pores of your tongue, and can make it harder to taste with successive draws. Some tricks like eating crackers, drinking coconut juice (it's isotonic, so it clears oil out of your tongue, like hot pepper sauce very well) or sometimes just plain water will help you taste your e-liquid again. You can tell which e-liquids have oils by shaking the bottle once. The longer the liquid takes to settle, the more oils it has. Those are usually the ones that lose its taste the more you vape, from my experience.

Also, atomizers can be too cold, or too hot when you're vaping, and each liquid seems to behave differently because of that. Some flavors taste best when the atty is really hot, and it's really vaporizing everything, other times you can taste the flavor when it's cool, and you'll start getting no taste, or a hot, peppery taste when the atty's temp rises.

Certain flavors seem to be tasty no matter how long I vape it, like RY4. Others, like Banana Cream (which seems to be really heavy with oils) tastes great at first, then I can barely taste it after vaping awhile.

Personally, I worked on my vaping technique until I was comfortable (taking light, long draws) and I then found a few liquids that taste great with my style.

Of course, there's always new flavors to try, so the experiments continue!

Happy vaping!
