Going to finally break out my late Dad's huge leather working tools and start reteaching myself leather working. My first project is a nice belt case for my iTaste MVP.

My question is- what would be the best kind of leather that won't rub the device (ie: scratch it or rub off the color on the device)?

Please shoot me any ideas or thoughts. No, I am not interested in the leather one that iTaste makes. It looks like cheap leather (and I'm sure it is) and the design looks flimsy.

Thanks!

If your going to carve or use punches, you'll want to use vegetable tanned oak leather. It comes in a natural color and you'll have to wet it to carve or punch it, then you can dye it what ever color you want.
If you aren't carving it, you can use latigo leather, it comes dyed and oiled, pretty much finished. All you need to do is cut it and fasten it into what ever shape your trying to get.

Good luck, I greatly enjoy my leather work.

Thank you! On the inside of the case/pouch I would like it as soft as possible. Would those work?

Yeah, I use it for really expensive knives!
When you're picking it out, look at the back of the leather (the side that will be touching the mod) and make sure it's smooth with no "hair".
