I submit the following:
--"Even more concerning, well-designed studies on the individual and community health effects of e-cigarettes are lacking." E-cigarettes have been sold in this country for at least seven years. So I would ask why, in all that time, "Public Health" has not been able (or willing?) to design and conduct studies on them? It seems to me that by admitting the lack of such studies, Public Health is admitting a gross failure to do its job.
--"At the same time we see e-cigarettes as perfectly designed and equally well marketed to children." It astounds me that anyone saying this fails to comprehend a simple piece of logic: Just because some teenagers
buy e-cigarettes does not mean e-cigarettes are marketed to children. E-cigarettes are, in fact, marketed to adult smokers, who are encouraged to switch to a product that, to any informed, rational thinker and based on existing science, is orders of magnitude safer than combusted
tobacco.
--This may come as a surprise to "Public Health," but adults enjoy flavors just as much as children do! That's why there are, for instance, flavored coffees, and flavored vodka, and flavored ice cream. I believe adults have even been known to enjoy bubblegum (the chewing kind) and an occasional cotton candy at the county fair.
--"If you really want to quit smoking, consider calling 1-800-[...] or talk to your physician," who will recommend a costly nicotine replacement therapy that enjoys a whopping 6% success rate, or perhaps a prescription-only psychoactive drug responsible for more than 500 documented suicides.
After smoking 2 packs a day for 55 years, I was able to switch completely to e-cigarettes in 5 days. No side effects, no withdrawal symptoms. I mix my own
eliquid (as do many e-cigarette consumers), so I know exactly what's in it. I am proud to be one piece of evidence that they actually work. There are millions of other "pieces of evidence" in this country alone, and millions worldwide.
