Here's the comment I just posted. Whether it will appear is uncertain...

I submit the following:

--"Even more concerning, well-designed studies on the individual and community health effects of e-cigarettes are lacking." E-cigarettes have been sold in this country for at least seven years. So I would ask why, in all that time, "Public Health" has not been able (or willing?) to design and conduct studies on them? It seems to me that by admitting the lack of such studies, Public Health is admitting a gross failure to do its job.

--"At the same time we see e-cigarettes as perfectly designed and equally well marketed to children." It astounds me that anyone saying this fails to comprehend a simple piece of logic: Just because some teenagers buy e-cigarettes does not mean e-cigarettes are marketed to children. E-cigarettes are, in fact, marketed to adult smokers, who are encouraged to switch to a product that, to any informed, rational thinker and based on existing science, is orders of magnitude safer than combusted tobacco.

--This may come as a surprise to "Public Health," but adults enjoy flavors just as much as children do! That's why there are, for instance, flavored coffees, and flavored vodka, and flavored ice cream. I believe adults have even been known to enjoy bubblegum (the chewing kind) and an occasional cotton candy at the county fair.

--"If you really want to quit smoking, consider calling 1-800-[...] or talk to your physician," who will recommend a costly nicotine replacement therapy that enjoys a whopping 6% success rate, or perhaps a prescription-only psychoactive drug responsible for more than 500 documented suicides.

After smoking 2 packs a day for 55 years, I was able to switch completely to e-cigarettes in 5 days. No side effects, no withdrawal symptoms. I mix my own eliquid (as do many e-cigarette consumers), so I know exactly what's in it. I am proud to be one piece of evidence that they actually work. There are millions of other "pieces of evidence" in this country alone, and millions worldwide.

i find it hard to understand why some one so educated can come up with
so much garbage.anyone using google can dispute every negative claim
about e-cigs with valid scientific studies in about 15 minutes.
i'll save you the trouble though.just take every negative statement
in the article and reverse the authors intent 180 degrees.
there much better

and here is my post :

Ah, I wonder if all the articles in a Newspaper are full of such lies and misinformation. Every sentence in this article is by someone who does not have any grasp of the truth but has maybe read simply similar news reports and submitted an article.

"Nicotine is a drug, just like its chemical equivalent in nicotine gum. But unlike nicotine gum, e-cigarettes have no health regulations, guidelines on how they can be sold and marketed, or where they may be used"

Nicotine is found in tomatoes, broccoli and many such naturally growing vegetables that you eat daily. Studies have proven that nicotine in itself is only as bad as caffeine in your coffee. Its the additional chemicals in your regular cigarettes alongwith the burning which produces tar which is bad for smokers health.

"E-cigarettes have not been successfully tested as a method to quit smoking. Despite claims and personal testimonies, the strong science is not there and the FDA has not approved these devices to join the seven FDA approved medications for quitting smoking. Some current smokers hoping to quit use e-cigarettes, but no good evidence exists to prove that it will actually work."

Another propaganda statement by Big Tobacco and Big Health industry. What kind of science is required more than testimonies. There are millions of proof worldwide who will gladly confirm that e-cigarettes were the only way to quit smoking, and most of us after decades of smoking and trying different alternate solutions. Oh and most (ofcourse not all) will let you know that we now hate the stench of smoking as much as a regular person.

"If you are looking for a way to free yourself of big tobacco companies' grip by using e-cigarettes, think again. The three largest cigarette companies are manufacturing and selling e-cigarettes. The tobacco companies still want the slice of your money by peddling you one of the most addictive chemicals known to man in a clever way."

The whole point becomes moot if you do a bit more study on nicotine instead of putting a few mediocre words together to call it as an article. Anyways Tobacoo companies are doing it because they are losing billions in revenue by all the ex-smokers moving to e-cigarettes. They want that pie, ofcourse most of us vapers do not give our revenue to them.

Posted a second comment:

"No matter how it is delivered, nicotine is still a highly addictive, fast acting, and harmful drug, damaging to your arteries, heart, and brain."

I have been studying the research on "nicotine addiction" for over 20 years, and have yet to find any study proving that nicotine is "highly addictive" or "harmful." Most all studies have been done on tobacco smoking; very few on the consumption of nicotine as a separate compound (not consumed in conjunction with the many other chemicals found in combustible tobacco cigarettes). And in fact, research is now showing that nicotine can have many beneficial effects, on concentration and memory, and for treating Alzheimer's, IBS, ulcerative colitis, and Parkinsons, among others.

If nicotine were a harmful drug, would the FDA have approved it for use in patches, gum, and lozenges?

That nicotine is "highly addictive" and "harmful" is a fearmongering myth, one it's high time responsible members of the public health community put to rest.

I commented on it:

Wow. I find it sad that people, like the one who wrote this article, write articles for the public yet have no idea what they are talking about. First, I smoked for over 20 years, I quit a while back with an ecig/vaping. I tried everything. Nothing worked. The day I picked up vaping I quit. Why? Because of the delicious flavors that you say are marketed to children. Why aren't you saying this about vodka or wines? They have fruity flavors. Everyone in the vaping community loves all these flavors because it keeps us from smoking. I've not seen one website or ad geared toward a child or teen. These accusations are flat out lies and misconceptions and it could cost people their lives. Why? Because some people may believe your lies and help get bans in place and cause Vapers to be forced to smoke again. There are studies out now that prove ecigs are safer. Had you took the time to research instead of repeating what you've read or heard.

Btw: I know of several people in my own family who has quit smoking and started vaping. They love the flavors. None of them are children or teens. Weird huh? Adults enjoying a flavor or dessert. Also my DR seems to agree that vaping is 100 times safer. He's in awe at the changes in my health after I quit smoking and started vaping. I can climb stairs now without losing my breath. And yes we know exactly what's in our ejuice because most of us only buy our juice from vendors who clearly list the ingredients. There are 4 ingredients in the majority of reputable vendors. Three of those 4 ingredients are FDA approved. The last is flavoring. All flavorings in ejuice is food based. So, if you've ever sniffed a pie while baking it, or sniffed cookies while they are in the oven you just inhaled what we do. If there were an issue with inhaling food based flavoring then in all the years bakeries have been baking with employees I think we would have seen an issue with it by now.

Nicotine patches don't work and are expensive. The inhalers the pharmaceutical companies sale don't work, but use the same ingredients as we do to make the vapor work. Yet we don't hear people writing uneducated articles about those. Why is that? Is it because some have a bias against the ecig industry to start with and could care less that it has saved thousands upon thousands of lives. Many of us would still be smoking had we not started vaping these delicious flavors. Cigarettes have been proved to cause cancer because they use a fire and are combustible. They have tar and thousands of known chemicals added that are bad. Yet you complain about 4 ingredients that are not dangerous. Nicotine has been studied extensively. Only the uneducated says its that bad as you state. It's been found to be equivalent to caffeine. It's not the nicotine that's bad in a cigarette, its the additives tobacco companies add to and the combustion process.
