I've seen things like you show in your pics before, but I still know nothing -- what does that hodgepodge of numbers actually MEAN? It just looks like a random conglomeration of numbers to me.

Andria

If you look at the end of the top line, they both say VTC4, implying they're both Sony cells. I think the point is that all the markers are identical, so they must be the same product with different wrappers.

If you would do your research vtc has been out of production for over 3 years and were not even designed for the application we use them for, in fact any "new" ones you have received anytime after sony stopped production were made by subcontractors or from companies that had overstock of the original and none are actually manufactured by sony that we use, lap top batteries and the like were all they were not 18650 sub ohm genius

....what I am seeing is you offering anecdotal evidence (the "I've been sub-ohming for years and I haven't blown my face off") and then you berate and insult anyone that offers the same back.

Yeah, this is going to end well.

Look, there's crappy batteries out there. Some people are trying to do the right thing by letting fellow vapers know about it.

Personal attacks aren't the way to help spread knowledge. :2c:

And how do I come up with proof do you suggest? mountains of digging seem to only find people like you simply putting them down and I am so sick of hearing how dangerous sub ohming is, I have been doing it for two years without dying, does that mean I just have two complete years of amazing luck? lol I have proof that they support my builds just fine and looking for some solid evidence that they are such horrible batteries I would explode every time I use them as people suggest, I was asking for proof not commentary but thanks for stopping by, much appreciated.

A bit curious what equipment and battery you were using to sub ohm two years ago.

It means they are re-wrapped Sony VTC4's, so by no means a bad battery - see the "18650VTC4" bit in the jumble of letters?

Perfectly good for subohm vaping imo.

T

It's the product code for VTC4 batteries. Except on the left, it comes from the usual green Sony wrapping, on the right, from the purple EFEST. Basically showing that batteries are like chocolate, once you unwrap them, you never know what your gonna get! :D

Ok, thx y'all. I'm glad I don't subohm, so I don't need to worry about amp drain more than, how fast is this thing gonna drain? I use 1.8-2 ohm coils in my Kayfuns, and 3.x ohm cartos in my cartotank, just so the battery drain isn't at lightspeed -- with those 3.x ohm cartos, 18650s in my Vamo v2 running at 10w, last all day.

I'm still fairly new to vaping, but not lithium batteries. Being a RC aircraft pilot I use high capacity/ high discharge LiPos on a regular basis. LiPos are significantly less stable than the batteries we are using to vape. Mostly these batteries are made by the same manufacturers though. The ratings on Li batteries; volts, mAh, current capacity are all variable, depending on testing methods and testing conditions. I am using efest 1600mAh, 30 watt 18650s with a .6 ohm load in a Panzer (authentic), and a Manhatten clone. They barely even get warm, I use my rather expensive hobby charger though. It allows me to safely discharge them before charging, so I don't let them get very low in my mods. I would not be surprised if the efest and Sony batteries are made in the same plant in China, this occurs more often than you might think.

Cheers

I would honestly leave this guy alone people.. What probably happened is that one of his friends did he research before hand, and found out this guy was being extremely irresponsible with his "super sub-ohming" habits. His friend was probably trying to help him out and potentially save his hand/face/life, and out of his ignorant arrogance he got his ego hurt. No amount of proof will get him to change his mind, only when one of his batteries goes into thermal runaway will he truly understand. And at that point he'll probably be too scared to ever touch a mech mod again.

These forums are for the educated to inform the uneducated. Don't come on here ignorant and expect to be treated well because you think you're a veteran "super sub-ohmer"

Well said sir! I concur wholeheartedly.

This guy is an accident waiting to happen. The burden of proof isnt on us anyway since most of have more sense than this. Some just have to learn their lessons in life the hard way.

How hard is it to buy quality batteries? Were only talking about a few dollars difference in most cases and thats a drop in the bucket compared to what we used to pay for a pack of cigarettes.

efest is a 20 amp continuous rated rewrapped lg cell. not 35 amp as they claim. have you done any research? or are you just supporting their claim because you purchased these batteries and dont want to feel like you got duped?

After twisting wire for 27 years, and earning a master electricians license, and currently earning a degree in electrical engineering. I am more than capable of doing a "Load Resistance" test on my batteries. This is what has led me to discover the fake Efest. I was testing new batteries that I bought and the numbers just did not add up compared to others that I had bought.

And you think efest rewrapping other companies batteries makes them intended for vaping?

Thank you my friend.. I have to deal with a 19 year old at work who thinks just like this person and he really gets to me sometimes

But as was just previously stated, the people who have the knowledge and wisdom to REALLY break down the numbers of the batteries - people with decades of experience in similar fields - are the ones who you need to listen to. Because they have the cold hard proof. And if you aren't competent enough to do a couple Google searches to find the proof(because it is out there, mainly on these forums), it really makes me doubt your competence enough to build safe coils.

Its just people like this that are ruining the scene. And I bet you this person is the type of person that goes out and blows clouds in every public building he walks in.

Just please, do us all a favor OP, and educate yourself. Every time I hear about another battery incident it really breaks my heart. And it only hurts the vaping community.

Like an earlier poster my battery background is with radio controlled airplanes, and I've witnessed some pretty spectacular battery failures over the years. $50 airplanes, $500 airplanes, $5000 airplanes up in flames in the blink of an eye. Pretty horrific from even 20 feet away, I wouldn't want to be holding any of them near my face.

To the OP, what are you hoping to accomplish by pushing your batteries beyond their capabilities?
