Any reasons to replace a wire?

Well, eventually they wear out and pop, but you'll notice that immediately when the vapor stops being produced.

Other than that, they do get kind of filthy. Soak and dry burn to clean them.

Overall, it's not a problem that I have. Wire's so cheap that I re-wire all my rebuilds every time they get the least bit off with their flavor.

Is there anything I should pay attention to when using the same resistance wire for a long time?

Thanks!
Kanthal is made of iron-chromium-aluminum. Every time you dry burn it (heat it to a glowing state), you reestablish the "alumina" (aluminum oxide) layer that provides a electrically resistive, thermally conductive and anti-corrosive barrier. Done often enough and the wire will show signs of oxidization, and for many this iron exposure can be tasted.

Thanks!

Another question, in a Genesis rba, is there any reason to have red coils when the tank is full?
No matter which wicking material I use or how much, always after 2-3 hits in a row (even at 6W), the coil start glowing.

From RDAs I know it means the coil is too dry and I need to drip more, but I'm not sure if that's normal for Gennies (again, not if I let it stand few seconds, just after 2-3 hits in a row).

Thanks!

IMO - Your issue(s) are:
  • Poor capillary action of the wick... what ever it is.
  • Poor juice retention at the coil end.
  • You ain't tippin' it enough.
  • Taking 2-3 big hits in rapid succession - vaporizing all the juice off the wick before it can replenish.
  • Genesis attys are a PITA to get running perfectly - hit after hit after hit after hit after...
  • Too low a resistance/too much heat for the wicks capabilities.

Thanks for the great information :)

* Poor capillary action of the wick... what ever it is.
- I'm using a 2mm ReadyXwick, a XC-116 ceramic wick.

* Poor juice retention at the coil end.
- Which end? :) the one in the tank is completely soaked (tank 3/4 full).

* You ain't tippin' it enough.
- What does it means?

* Taking 2-3 big hits in rapid succession - vaporizing all the juice off the wick before it can replenish.
- I guess so, but why? I'm taking a very "average" hits, not really hard/long ones, and I wait few seconds between each one.

* Genesis attys are a PITA to get running perfectly - hit after hit after hit after hit after...
- What PITA stands for? :)

* Too low a resistance/too much heat for the wicks capabilities.
- 30 gauge coil, 1.2ohm, 4-5 rounds that covers all the "exposed" wick, at ~2mm diameter (I guess, it sits well on the 2mm wick, not too tight not too loose).

They heat better since they're flat. Else, sounds a bit odd on dry hits/glow, I'd see about how fast the wick is wicking.

Wire-wise, I use nichrome and it's yet to pop on me from extensive use. I usually mess with it before or something else goes wrong like hot spots and I accidentally over-heat it to a pop.

IMO, nichrome is the way to go since nothing burns off of it and it just lasts.
