Any suggestions of how I can keep off the lbs after making the switch?

Hi all, sorry I'm new and really don't have a scooby doo how to work this on mobile however the last 10 days I've read this website like crazy about 100 times a day!

Anyway, I'm a 19 year old student who has been smoking around 12 a day since the age of 14. I'm a slim build and I don't have a sweet tooth or eat much, Infact I don't snack at all and drink around 4 litres of water and about 15 cups of green tea a day (I just liked the taste and found out that was healthy about a month ago) lucky me.

Anyway, I'm now worried that unless I starve myself or drown myself in water I will be unable to cut down eating if I start piling on the lbs quitting smoking... I'm proud of my month smoke free but the vanity is starting to make me panic. It's crap being a girl we really do worry about this stuff to no end.

I'm a waitress who does 5 hour shifts running around and on my 3 days off I love going to the gym. Which is why I'm panicking about wondering how the hell I can lose weight! Already put on 4lbs!

Sorry for the rant just any personalised help would be much appreciated as I don know anyone in real life who vapes.... Thanks everyone!

I have gained a couple pounds since I quit 10 weeks ago. I know its hard but you have to realize smoking was probably stunting your growth hence the extra weight gain. You have to know that the extra weight is worth the health gained in quitting. My wife quit 11 years ago she gained some weight soon after quitting but then lost it over the next year. Are you eating more since you quit smoking? Maybe talk with your doctor to see if there are some healthy options for you. At any rate I wish you the best and congratz on quitting you really are better off.

Just sounds like you getting a few pounds from change then to me Our bodies have great ability to repair itself. Our system changes quite a bit and we gain and loose weight as that happens. Your doctor can give you the particulars of any change from smoking to non smoker. Some folks tend to eat more when they quit smoking because smoking suppresses the apatite. Some folks don't. I personally haven't changed my diet one bit other then eating things I didn't like before, but when I eat and how much hasn't changed. I gained a total of 3.5 pounds, but weighed myself yesterday and have lost 2 lbs of it. Good luck sweetie

I have to admit that I've actually lost weight without trying since I quit smoking and started vaping. But I've no doubt that's because I am almost always sucking on the tip of my e-cig. In other words, I vape a lot more than I smoked.

I, however, do have a sweet tooth, so I switch out several different dessert-type flavored juices. Like Ivory Bliss (raspberry, white chocolate and almond) or Strawberry Orange Ice. And I find that does replace my desire for sweet stuff. (Good thing because last time I was checked, I was borderline diabetic.)

I began to write out a health plan then I just deleted it lol.

To be honest 4lbs is nothing. My body fluctuates that much depending on what time of the day I weigh myself at. I assume you weighed yourself at the same time of day in order to determine that you've actually gained four pounds (Right after you wake up, before you eat breakfast, after you use the restroom). You also don't know that you gained 4lbs of fat.

Also since you've lowered your Nicotine dosage you're not actually eating more. You're just eating normally due to Nicotine's anoretic effects. There might be temporary rebound effects due to this, but you're eating habits should go back to normal. If your weight does become a problem then you can pay a visit to a nutritionist, but at your activity level I don't ever really see this as necessary.

I actually lost some weight, a couple of pound, right after I switched completely from cigs to vaping. But in the last 10+ days or so I have put on like 4 pounds without eating any more than I use to or as I think I use to.

Glad you are off the cigarettes and on to vaping. So what is a few pound. With the new life you have from no more cigs you can workout some and loose those.

You probably look a lot better with a few extra pounds than you ever did huffing away on a cigarette. Your activity level should increase as you feel healthier from quitting smoking and your weight should stabilize. A nice run in the evenings will do wonders for many aspects of your life and now that you're not smoking you should have plenty of new found energy to burn off.

Keep on vaping and drinking lots of fluids. I vape all the time. so my sweet tooth is taken care of my e-juice. I have candy cane and Pineapple Peach and many many different fruits and candy flavors. I got a freebie sent to me once of Cucumber Mint and my first thought was yuk but I was surprised I like it for an occasional different taste. Funny how I like so many flavors and yet the cig was just one kind and now it is yukkky tasting!
Good Luck!

My doctor told me it is normal for a person to gain up to 15 pounds after quitting. I did, and without doing anything to compensate, I lost it over a few months, all the while enjoying the occasional gelato and pizza. If it continues to be a problem for you, I suggest you lay off the dessert-type e-liquids, and concentrate on the fruits.....HaHaHaHaHaHa! Just kidding.

I think your over thinking this personally. I smoked a pack a day since I was 9 years old. Im 27 now, I switched to vaping cuss I was about to have my first born son. I did not ever gain weight when I quite. I actually lost weight. I been vaping for a year and I actually am more active and never out of breathe. So calm down, don't stress. Stress is going be the reason you gain weight. Also find a nicotine level that matches your smoking. Mine was 25mg at first now its 11mg. If your not getting the throat hit, go with a new mod. I was using the ego-c twist at first, now I use the Vamo V5.
