been vaping since november-ish. been enjoying it so far, went from an ego pen style i got at cig outlet, to an mvp and mini nautilus tank, and about a week ago i got a segili 30w and subtank mini which is beyond great. however, i got some sort of upper respiratory infection a few weeks back. the sickness feeling, along with the fatigue, sore throat and runny nose and all that junk cleared up after a few days, but in the past few days or week or so, ive been left with this feeling of decently heavy congestion in my upper chest. sort of like a feeling like there's a good amount of mucus that i cant get out, and occasionally ill cough up a very minor amount here n there. and theres slight soreness near my chest/sternum area too. i figure this is just leftover mucus from the respiratory infection clearing up but who knows. decided to just use snus for now until this clears up, since the last couple days when i'd hit my vape decently well/often, id feel more feelings of heaviness/congestion and slight soreness in my chest. i dont wanna have to quit vaping, but if i have to look forward to chronic/constant respiratory infections/issues from it then i will. but, other than that, i got an order of max vg 6mg juices coming from vista vapor that im excited to try, perfect time to let em steep while i take this mini break from vaping to let my chest clear up.

it sound like the same flu virus that's been floating around here for about
a month. i caught it but,my symptoms have been comparatively mild from
when i was smoking.

Water and Mucinex! That'll cure you up! Plus exercise. don't think you can stop exercising now that you started vaping!! Get out there and run it off! Best thing for a chest cold - Increased Heart Rate for prolonged periods of time (running/jogging etc..). It sounds like the opposite of what you should do, but it'll clear ya up!
Or some Honey, Cayenne Pepper and Water w/ a splash of Lemon Juice.

i feel like i dont have any "cold" or sickness anymore havent in along time, my question is, is the chest congestion/mucus slight sore chest off n on, just a byproduct of that URI/chest infection i had now at the tail end of clearing up? or is this gonna be something chronic that i have to deal with now if i keep vaping? if so id almost rather go back to cigs.

Yes I am either allergic to high VG or just a pansy. I inflamed my lung membrane from high levels of VG or either high diketones. I went as far as doing
xray and cat scan with contrast. Nothing was found in the images so they ruled it pleurisy, swollen lung membrane. I gave it a week and started feeling better.
Started vaping again on the suntank mini with high levels of VG and my throat swelled up badly along with my uvula. Went back to the doc and was diagnosed with a URI, prescribed Z-Pack(Arthriomycin). All better now but really miss the clouds and vaping. The pen with high PG low VG never had any problems. Really
sucks because I miss my subtank mini :(

If you aren't sick anymore but still having the chest issues, then I'd suspect the high VG. It bothers a lot of people, with that tight chest, heavy chest, chest congestion, etc, but for me, I simply can't breathe if I go over 20% VG, and actually 16%-17% is far better. I think VG is just too thick for some people. If PG doesn't bother you, then it's easily solved by using higher PG; if PG does bother you, then you might need to thin the VG with either distilled water or pure grain alcohol -- think, Everclear or Golden Grain, no impurities. I've heard high-proof vodka works too, but it would have to be REALLY high proof.

I had to start vaping high VG coz PG was making my tinnitus worse... At the beginning I had some of the tight lung thing going on but it seemed to go away when I started making my own high VG juice (80/20) with no flavouring. I put it down to some flavours not agreeing with me. Maybe its a flavour thing? I find watermelon is a real killer for me..

Sudophed (however it is spelled) Is not for chest congestion. It is for nasal / sinus congestion.

Makes me wonder why they would prescribe you that.

Agree.

Guafenesin, or Mucinex work great for this problem: "Mucokinetics are a class of drugs which aid in the clearance of mucus from the airways, lungs, bronchi, and trachea"

Mucinex, the plain kind......harmless and will thin the mucos down quite a bit, no side effects

That depends.

How long ago is "a long time"? A week, a month? It could still be related to the chest infection.

It could also be your chest and lungs still trying to heal since you quit smoking. That healing doesn't happen overnight, and the more damaged your lungs were the longer it takes to heal. It probably took me close to 6 months before I got over the occasional chest pain and coughing up gunk. (Pack+ per day smoker for 30 years)

It could also be related to your heavy VG based juice. VG tends to leave a slightly oily feeling residue behind. It can coat car windshields and windows leaving a hazy film that you can see. It does the same in your lungs. While probably not harmful it may be irritating and that may be what is causing your congestion problems. This is especially true if your subohming and inhaling large clouds of vapor all of the time.

And lastly there is the possibility of a chronic problem, although a chronic problem wouldn't be related to the vaping. With a PG or VG sensitivity all you have to do is change the mix of your juice and it goes away. If you've got a long term chronic problem it probably came from smoking. It may be the onset of COPD.

What I would suggest is for a week or so stop using your heavy VG based juice and switch to a high PG based juice (80/20 PG to VG ratio). See if that clears up your lungs. If it does then you can gradually increase the VG amounts to find what works without giving you chest pains and congestion. Try to find a local B&M that can mix you a 15ml bottle of juice in an 80/20 to test with. Then go back and get a 65/45, then 50/50 and so on until you find your limit.

If switching to a high PG based juice doesn't fix the problem within a few days then I would recommend a visit to the doctor because it's probably not related to your vaping and there's a lingering health issue that needs to be addressed.

This year's lingering cough has been nasty for everyone. I cleared mine up after 2 weeks with mucinex and lots of water, while my non-vaping/non-smoking other half took 6 weeks. Your call of course on whether to stop vaping for now, but smoking ciggies will make everything worse. I vape 50/50 so I guess I'm lucky in that i'm not sensitive to any ingredients that I know of yet. Best of luck and feel better soon!
