I just need to know that i'm not alone. I spent 75.00 on the E-cig kit, Another 50 dollars on getting carts and e-liquid. Now i find that i need to spend another 25 dollars for Attys? Good night! Am i really saving that much money on these things? Plus the aggravation of dripping and blowing and batteries and cleaning. I'm down to my last REAL cigarette and i can tell you that i wish someone had warned me that e-cigarettes are more hassle than they are worth. Plus just as expensive as cigarettes. I am getting so frustrated that i spent all this money on them only to find out that they are second rate at best. If you are a newbie and considering getting them....DON'T! I'm so mad about this whole thing...i wish i had never let myself get this kit!

I can tell you're really frustrated. Unfortunately, there is a huge learning curve when we start vaping, and oftentimes we make mistakes along the way. What e-cig did you buy?

I will say that I've not seen any monetary savings at all. In fact, I've spent more doing this than I ever did when smoking. However, the savings in my health and the improved emotional health, for me, far outweigh the dollars I've spent. Don't give up yet.

Your buying the wrong equipment man, !!! do some more research and buy top quality stuff, maybe buy an Omega or if you like small stuff buy an Ego bat and you LR510 Attys, but really do some research before you slam Ecigs, I dont mean to sound mean but there is really some great PV's on the market that vape like champs and put out plumes of great tasting vapor.!!!

I too have spent $150.

But I'm pretty pleased. For the first time in 20 years I don't need to have smokes with me at all times. I don't crave them. My lungs are feeling much better. I didn't have to fork over $75 for a carton and some spare packs every two weeks.
If the eGo keeps my from smoking for two months, it has paid for itself. Everything after that is gravy.

Hard to tell what has turned you off to the vapor.......you don't really say.
Maybe you should try different juice? PG or VG...different flavors?
Sorry it's not working for you.

What sort of kit did you buy? With more information, we might be able to get you pointed in the right direction.

Vaping takes awhile to hit a break-even point. All your spending is up front, but once you zero in on the things you like, you are only spending for maintenance, and the cost begins to drop.

The hassle aspect mellows out after time too. You learn faster, easier ways of doing things, and you settle into a routine. There is a learning curve, but the only thing for it is perseverance.

You are right... it comes down to equipment.

510 variants are the most reliable (my opinion so far). Finding appropriate vape juice can mean a bit of an investment.

But in the end I caught my stride. Found what I needed. Frustration subsided. Tobacco is history.

Well... that depends.

Are they more expensive UP FRONT? Yes. Quite a bit so.

But from what I've been reading here, once you get the hang of taking care of them, it will be drastically cheaper.

And besides that, as far as e-cigs being more hassle than cigarettes, well, that depends on how you smoke.

I roll my own. Loose tobacco, rice paper, and skinny filter. Making a cigarette takes me probably about a minute. I can do it in 20 seconds if I'm REALLY pushing, but it won't smoke that well.

Get a filter, put it between my lips, take out a paper, pinch a precise amount of tobacco, sift it across the paper, roll a few times, place the filter and re-arrange tobacco, roll s'more, then tuck (which sometimes takes a few attempts), lick, and stick.

And then after that, light it, take a couple little puffs, then blow forward to put out the flame that ALWAYS seems to happen. Take a couple drags. Get talking for a few second. It goes out. Light it again, oh crap it's on fire, blow forward. Take a couple drags. Get talking. It goes out. Light it again, oh crap it's on fire, blow forward...

You get the picture.

Point is, I go to a lot of trouble to smoke. And trust me, if you were tight enough on cash, or concerned enough about the additives in tailor-made cigs, so would you.

If you don't want to have to deal with dripping all that, get a cartomizer. You can refill 'em in about 2 seconds with the "condom method" (no, it doesn't involve an actual condom), and they're cheap.

No dripping. When one carto runs dry, pull it off and stick on a new one and fill the empty ones when you get around to it.

That's the route I'm going.

Get some sleep, rethink your reasoning to vape, buy another pack of cigs, and ease your way into this. We`ve all been there, but we got past it, and so can you! I`ve yet to break even, and it may be a while if I ever do. I still have an occasional bad day where it seems like everything is just a big PITA. Those days are getting fewer and further between. I can breathe again! I don`t cough! I got consistent vape all day today, and it was better than any day of smoking I`ve ever had, and that`s the God`s honest truth!

Lastly know that we are all in this together and here for you. Maybe you need to try a carto, I know someone will mail you one if you want to try one. You need an atty? Let someone know. If you`re truly dedicated to giving this a shot, there`s too many good people on here to help, and if you need something and can`t afford it right now, I`ve never NOT seen people step up to help.

If you're ONLY in it to save money, fine. Consider what two cartons of cigarettes would cost you, and how long those would last.

To me, it isn't a money saving effort.

To be able to inhale deeply without coughing.
To lay down at night, and not hear gurgling sounds in my lungs.
To be able to taste food. And, smell ... anything!

P R I C E L E S S ! ! !

For what it's worth, I've spent ten times as much as you have (very conservatively) in the past five months. If you feel you're spending too much money on your well being, then quit vaping and get back to burning rolled up tubes of tobacco leaves.

If it was really all about saving money, I'd have jumped ship long ago. But, it's your life.

I learned the expensive hard way as well, but it is still an investment that will pay for itself and then start saving me money. bought blu 60 bucks, moved to 510s, cheap ones through Tasty Vapor, then ego, again cheap one through Tasty Vapor, then two ego kits from pure smoker when on sale (luckily, hit the last day of the sale), four reg orders of juice and two sample packages of juices. total about 250-300 bucks. but was spending 120-160 on real cigs per month, supporting me and my adult son. so a 2 month investment maybe three then SAVINGS. figure a bottle or two of juice a month, 2 attys a month, new batts every 4-8 months, should come out to about 30-40 a months vs the 140.
Other benefits: i can vape while watching t.v., vape in the car, maybe live longer, live healthier, not have family tell me I stink, so on and so forth.
Keep Vaping

Thank you for all the posts! It really helped, maybe i am a little tired. I recently purchased the Joye 510 as i thought it would be the best since i am a heavy smoker.

The 510 should be fine.

Now you have to find juice that satisfies.

For myself it came down to PG juices without flavor at 18mg- or menthol PG juices at 18 mg.

Here's some of the crap I tried:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZOUaG7DqBLg

I did a variation of the foam cart mod to my cartridges, and I've been auto vaping ever since.

The thing is that these e-smokes are new... so it's a little tricky. An analog smoke is consistent. These digital things are as consistent as the user is educated. It can either be a pain in the behind or the "cost of doing business".

Sadly- only the higher end equipment (510 and others) is really "ex smoker ready". That has been my experience. Some of the others... while good... will just cut down on smoking or in extreme cases just not work at all.

You're at the bleeding edge of a new thing. We're all testers. We're all modders. We're all working on it.

Get used to the 510- make sure you have a few extra batteries, learn to refill carts, and in a short while it will all work out.

That`s a good enough starter kit IMO. The only problem is you have the added frustration of battery charging. If you can make that kit work a while you can upgrade to an Ego 510 after you recoup some of your INVESTMENT. So your attys are shot already? I see you`re new, if your attys are bad already maybe the supplier will replace them? Worth looking in to IMO.

I was a 2 PAD smoker for 27 years, and I stopped smoking on a 510. I smoked heavier than anyone I knew, I also have had a desire to stop for the last 23 years and have tried everything. I quit with an Ego which is a 510.

Have you modified your carts at all. To me I never would have made it without a good blue foam cart mod. I couldn`t see dripping as being efficient for someone like me, nor could I take the constant "topping off" with a standard poly cart. The blue foam mod saved me. I can put 13 drop in it, and vape til it`s dry. Even when I`m vaping nonstop that lasts me over an hour with no fuss. Average vaping it lasts me 3 hours. So I need to make 6-8 cart mods and then I can fill them either in the morning or the night before. I can re use the mods over and over. It takes less time to swap 6-8 carts a day than it does to light 40 cigs a day. So now your hassle is down to changing batteries a couple times a day, doesn`t seem to bad now.

My point is once you find your routine it`s not a big hassle. I don`t know what your routine is going to end up being, but if you hang in there you`ll find it. I also stick with tobacco flavors, finding an all day vape is very important IMO. Sure I`ll play with some sweet stuff once in a while, but I generally vape the same thing daily, maybe 2 or 3 tobacco flavors mixed in my 6-8 carts that are all similar so I don`t need to mark them, just grab one. Simplicity is the name of the game, and i`m just sharing my experience, not what`s going to work for you.

i feel your pain.

as for the attys i have had mine for around 3 months and havn't had a problem yet. i dont even really take care of them. toss them in hot water and let them soak.. then run water threw them and let them dry from the crazy heat my xbox puts out.
batteries with the cig shaped ones just dont last. thats where the modders section or TW products come into play. for me..

i didn't start ecigs to save money. i did it so i could breath and not get winded. also i have two kids, rather be able to enjoy life with them and then their children.
health is my factor on not smoking. the savings i get is just a perk
so far i have saved around $150 in 3 months.

I lov emy 510 it was the first kit I bought and I still love it - I still USE it lol - Ive also added other stuff like a PT and a mod; any new thing upfront costs are going to be more.
You know you avoided getting suckered like so many people on this forum who spent over $150 for their first kit of ONE PV (Smokingeverywhere and the like) and carts which suck mightily. So youa re already ahead of the game - ask people here how many of them bought one bad PV after another until they did more research.

So yeah start up costs are going to be $ - its unavoidable. Continuing to smoke, while your choice, will rack up Dr bills in the future unless you're supremely lucky. And even if you ARE lucky, because you smoke the doc will want to run a myriad of extra tests on you every time you're really sick to check its not smoking-related. That certainly eats up your $ as most of it wont be fully covered by insurance (been there, done that).
Not being able to get your new PV to work like you KNOW it can, yeah that's gonna drive you back to smokes - but have one, dont guilt yourself over a couple because you need something at the start to offset frustration.
The forums are here to get you over any issues you're having - the members will do their level best to help you overcome problems, or vent if you need to.
Find out what's a reasonable expectation and what isn't, and go from there.
I didnt quit smoking til 10 days after I got my PV, I wasnt planning to quit either but it jsut happened. Don't push it, do things at your OWN pace, and come here for help :)
GOod luck!
