So, I ordered a GP Spheroid V2 from domovaporco.com (authorized reseller of GP products), got it in the mail yesterday and finally had a chance to get it out of the box tonight. Something is very wrong with it.... it has a hard short without a coil even installed. I unscrewed the base and checked all the insulators... everything seems to be good with those... but in looking at it... both posts are making contact with the positive from the battery inside the base. I don't know if I'm missing an insulator or what.

I have emailed Domo to see what I need to do. I'm sure I could just rig something up to keep the negative post from touching the positive pin... but for $125 I think the damn thing should work straight out of the box, this isn't some cheap Chinese knockoff after all.

Anybody have detailed pics of what it's supposed to look like inside that base? Should both positive/negative screws be identical? Or is one supposed to have a smaller head or something?

Blake with Domo got back to me and said mine was the third email he had received that day with the same issue, and that he had never encountered it before. I'm guessing you're right though about the upgrade kits, because I got it figured out and it's working now. I took everything completely apart, and while initially I though both of the insulators around the positive screw were identical, I realized the one that was originally on the bottom had a small indentation molded into it that the screw head was sitting inside of and the one on the top didn't have that. Swapped them around and it's working like a champ now. That little millimeter of difference was just enough to have the positive and negative screw heads on the same level letting them both touch the positive pin from the battery.

Stick with that correspondence for a while ~ Blake WILL FIX IT, including a replacement (if needed)

So, seems that flipping those insulators around was only a temporary fix. I must have had the screw sitting just right so that only the positive was touching the center post from the battery. After a couple of times of screwing it on/off my mod it started to hard short again. I let Blake know on the 4th, and he had a V2 rebuild kit on my doorstep yesterday. If that didn't fix the problem he was prepared to take it back and refund my money or get me a replacement, whichever I preferred.

Luckily the kit took care of it, it was a problem with the insulators around the positive post. I took a pic (sorry, all I have is my phone so it's not great) but you can see the issue. The one on the left is from the rebuild kit, and the one on the right is what originally came in it. Notice how the one on the right has that ridge molded into it that was allowing the screw head to sit down inside of it a little bit basically making it the same height as the negative post and causing the short. With the insulators from the rebuild kit installed it is working like a champ now. So, I don't know if it was just a fluke manufacturing issue... or if maybe those were V1 or V3 insulators that ended up in it somehow, but it's good to go after the swap.

The little nuts don't bother me much.... I'm not one to try and replace a coil while I'm out an about... so I just use a little pair of needle nose to tighten them down. I have a Terminator that I use for my go to 90% of the time, I carry the Spheroid for backup since I know I can keep it loaded with juice and it will not leak. If the Spheroid had more juice capacity it would probably be my #1 but I run it dry too quick. I just see it as a hassle needing to carry a big bottle of juice around with me all the time, I carry a small little 3 ml bottle for emergency use. With the Terminator I can fill it up and vape for 14 hours and still have juice to spare, which I much prefer.
