It seems like the mechanical mods aren't what I thought they would be. After researching that these were the best of the best, I gotta say I find it to be a lot of hype. I'm in no way a newb and feel a newbie could dive in with basic electrical knowledge. Let me start off by saying I can build coils, I got the 35a batteries, and I have decent mods. I started with a vapor beast telescopic mod and then went to a hcigar nemesis. Honestly, I don't see a difference in how people say mods hit differently. The vape was the same and it seems like more hype to me then anything. Got into cloud chasing and it was fun for a few days and wow, what a juice waster! I mean yea it's cool to blow clouds but after a couple hits it gets old having to refill. Then I got a kayfun and it's the only thing I use besides my egos and 510 tanks. I've strapped my kayfun to a ego vv, l like it a lot since I find it to like bigger ohm'd coils. I hate carrying these things in public and the locking and unlocking gets super old. Battery life sucks and I find myself missing my old vv ego even more. In the mean time I'm browsing to go back to find a vv/vw apv. I can say I honestly miss it and I don't know why. IMO these mechanical tubes are over priced and more hyped up then what they are suppose to be. The only thing going for them is how long they last. I put them up for sale and they will be gone tomorrow to a buddy of mine. Anyways I feel like the mvp2, vamo, vtr, e lvt, or smok zmax, would suit me better. Has anyone felt the way I have and went back like I'm doing? I didn't mean to bash the mods, I'm just stating how I feel and seeing if anyone relates. Of course all opinions welcome!

Chipotle.
Perhaps the problem is that you haven't fully put your mech mods through their paces, what is the lowest resistance coil you've built on any of your mechs? You didn't mention anything about what sort of atomizer resistance or coil builds you were using, that is probably the biggest single factor with mech mod performance. Now, if you're simply using a normal 510 clearo or tank on top of a mech mod you're simply not going to get great performance. Mech mods are made primarily for RDA/RBA's, though they can be used with a 510/ego style clearo tank...it's not going to give you any sort of performance boost over a VV/VW stick battery.

Is that a turbo as your avatar pic? Sorry I didn't list what I've tried: I have a patriot, omega, caterpillar, and kayfun. I tried twisted 28g, microcoils, single, quad, and dual. I only use cotton and after using silica I wouldn't go back. I build anything from 1.5ohms to .3ohms.

I've found my sweet spot to be at .7-.8Ω for tanks, .3-.4Ω for drippers. That leaves me with 2 options: a $30 mech mod clone, or a $200 DNA30 device. Seeing as how I don't have the money for a DNA30, mech mods it is. That being said, I vape ~10-15 ml a day (I work at a B&M vape shop... A slow one too, so basically I just vape all day. Plus I switched to vaping from smoking hookah, so to say I'm a chain vaper would be a bit of an understatement) and if I didn't make my own juice I'd be broke.

Honestly, if you're building in the range that you can use it on a VV/VW device... I'd say they're going to perform a lot better than a mech. A mech is nice for when you want to sub-ohm tho, since most regulated devices won't fire coils in that range. What ohms are you building your coils at?

Lately since I got the kayfun I've been going over 1.5ohms. Haven't touched drippers since. Also I love how a 2.8 coil feels at 4.8v. I feel like a kayfun works better on a vv device. After those Imr's drain down it's don't hit good.

Yep that's a turbo(Precision PT6768 .96 A/R), Makes big power for the shop drag car on 32psi.

Honestly, I started my vaping with VV/VW devices for about two months, then I purchased my first mech mod and I've never looked back. Over the past four months I have exclusively used mech mods and I have become ever more impressed with the quality of the vape I am getting. Personally, I like to push things bit so what I'm currently vaping on is pushing over 100W through a triple-parallel 26ga dual coil setup at .14 ohms. There are not many(if any) VV/VW mods that can reliably fire a .14 ohm coil setup all day long, however with a simple copper mech setup I have been enjoying over 100W of vape goodness all day long over the past week or so. You simply can't do that with VV/VW unless you plan to spend $200+ on a BIG(I mean physically large) fat box mod with some sort of modified chip in it to push big big power. I can accomplish the same 100W with a $30 copper mech mod that fits nicely in my hand and pocket. Carrying two extra 18650's doesn't bother me either, I can generally get through an entire work day(8 hours) with a single Sony VTC5 though so I guess I carry them just for piece of mind.

I don't think it's venturing /back/ which is implying mechanicals are better. That's basically like comparing automatic transmission to manual.

Different strokes or different folks.

I prefer my regulated mods. I do love my mechs but I find myself grabbing my Segelie 20w more. It's just my preference :)

And my DNA Chip is coming Monday for my dual 18650 box mod I'm making. Only 80 dollars total spent.

And ps slowly but surely the chips are being able to handle lower and lower ohms. My Segelie handles down to .6

Definitely sounds like you are doing something wrong.

The general consensus is that the kayfun is one of the best delivery devices around, and I have to agree. I have two of them, and it is the ONLY thing I use, besides drippers.

It took me a LONG time to convert to RDA/RBAs with mechs. In fact, fasttech accidently sent me a wrong order about 5 months ago, and it just so happened to contain a mech mod. I decided to give it a try, and now I could NEVER go back to an ego device or a clearo.

Kayfuns have spectacular flavor, and hits extremely well. I find the best ohm range is 0.8-1.2, for me.

What gauge wire as you using? I recommend 24g-28g.....with 26g being preferable. My kayfun didn't shine until I ditched the 32g an 30g kanthal, and went to 28g and 26g

I use and prefer both! Different tools for different purposes. You will not get the consistency and convenience of a trustworthy tank and a regulated mod when comparing it to a mech mod. For me, it's a Kayfun or RSST on a Provari. But you'll never get the warm flavorful vape of an RDA and a mech with fully charged batteries when using a tank and a regular VV/VW mod, unless you go into 30 watt or more devices. My at home vape is a mech with a sub ohm RDA.

I didn't venture back. I never left the VV/VW when I went to mechs. So don't limit yourself to one or the other. If you have both, use both!

On a separate note, mech mods are much more finicky than vv/vw mods. If you're unhappy with you beast or nemesis mech with a sub ohm RDA, check your voltage drop. You may have to clean the contacts or upgrade them. A mech requires a lot more maintenance and tinkering to make it work at its best.

I have been using a couple of Provari that I bought about 15 months back. I wanted to try unregulated, so a few weeks ago I picked up a Zen sidewinder off the classifieds. I played with it for a while, but soon got tired of it. Don't get me wrong, it's a great little device, I guess I'm just spoiled by my Provari. I was fortunate to run across a VV Reo Grand in the classifieds and was able to work a trade(I got a couple of other items to balance things out). That was my foray into mech. mods. I hope I'm not disappointed with the Reo when it gets here.

Why did you stay with the provari

I guess it would be a couple of things. First is the consistency that I get from the Provari, their is no degradation as the battery drains. Second in the case of the Sidewinder, the 18350 batteries didn't give a long enough duty cycle for me. Those are my main objections to using it regularly. I'm not going to bash it because it dose what it's intended to do very well.

I would suggest you keep your mechs for backup and get kicks for them; if you have a full nemesis with all the tubes you should be able to use it with kick and 18650 battery.
If a kick fails, you can just take it out and vape mech mode; meanwhile you get another kick;
if the pcb in a vamo fails, you gotta prize off the pressfit, get the replacement pcb board, solder it up etc etc etc.

Between the mods you mention, I'm liking the e-lvt these days.

You can't get much simpler then a kick in a mech, set the wattage, and literally forget it. I do it for my stingray sometimes. Mainly for work, so I don't have to worry about the resistance of whatever topper I toss on it while I'm out. It's like a variable volt ego, only there isn't an further adjusting needed when you switch a coil or topper and it has a different resistance. Setting the wattage on a Kick means it'll adjust battery power output for you.
