I'm Karen, from NY state-

I'm new to vaping, just received my 501 last week and have not had a cigarette since. I LOVE it. I'm a hard core smoker, started when I was 12 (am now 51) and have smoked anywhere between 1 and 2 packs a day. I've tried everything...nothing worked. I've been hospitalized with COPD once and that did scare me.
This is the first time I've had no desire for a cigarette my whole adult life. I even have half a pack left over on my desk and don't even think about lighting up. Here's my question:

For those of you who have been vaping awhile, do you notice a difference in your health? Do you still have smoker's cough? Or do you feel in better health.

I'm sticking with my ecigs no matter what, but I'm just curious about what it will feel like down the road.

Well I'm not far down the road. I actually quit 3 months prior to getting my first e-cig and it's been a few weeks now since I've been vaping.

Firstly I didn't use it as a quit smoking kinda thing since I'd already done that. I used the patch to quit, and gained a lot of weight as a result. I had quit before cold turkey, and gained weight then too.

The first thing I noticed when I quit smoking is I was no longer wheezing at night while I was trying to sleep. I had been smoking sometimes almost two packs a day.

For the few days it took my 510 to arrive, I smoked some analogs. It was just too much anticipation, reading everything here and knowing a possible solution to my desire to smoke was on the way. I had quit, but I still very much WANTED to smoke. It was more about the action of doing it, the ritual I guess.

Now that I've been vaping, I'm still not wheezing! My weight is going back down! I don't feel the panic anymore! I can vape places I could never smoke, like anywhere in my house, in front of my husband's antique radios, and in his car!! I was only allowed to smoke once in his car, when he had picked me up from the hospital after having knee surgery!

Vaping doesn't feel like smoking. There is no heaviness in my lungs. There is no nasty odor. It's satisfying in a way that smoking never will be. It's all I'd ever wanted smoking to be!

Anyway, that's how I feel about it. Vaping does take a little more fussing with things, and a little more planning when going out, but, I'd rather that than pay a fortune to feel sick.

I get a yearly bronchitis, and I'm anxious to see if maybe I've escaped that. I'll have to let you know in the fall :)

Howdy Karen;

You're gonna love the 501. I don't know what else you have in the line of supplies, so these are just suggestions.

Spare atomizers - If your only one burns out you're dead in the water.

Passthrough - Using a passthrough at home will save on your batteries, and you'll have fresh batteries when you leave the house. And it will allow you to vape while the batts are on the charger.

Juice - Cartridges don't last long. You can refill them with any strength or flavor.

You'll still get some mild to medium withdrawal symptoms at times, because there are other things in smoke that has an addictive effect. I used to keep a little bottle of high nic juice so I could spike my level when I got the craving. It later went away.

I'm not coughing all night anymore.
I can breath better.
Shortness of breath is gone.
My wife says I don't stink anymore.

The down side is that I'm still fat, and my hair won't grow back, but I guess you can't have everything.

Cheers;
jd

Thanks for the replies! Like I said, I'm new to vaping but I lurked at this forum for a month before my first purchase and felt confident enough to get what I needed (spare parts, juice) I'm so looking forward to feeling better, I'm still amazed that I don't crave cigarettes at all. LOVE my 501...I did the straw mod today and noticed a very big difference. You all are great here, I'm so glad I came across this forum!

This is only my 5th day digital, I still have morning cough but that could be my lungs getting rid of the crap I have been putting in them for 40 years. All I know is that plain nicotine is safer than nicotine tar and all the other chemicals in analog cigarettes. I can't see myself "lighting up" again, unless you're talking about that little light at the end of my E-cig.

If your using PG liquid I read somewhere on here( I cant remember) that there was a possibility that pg could prevent flu and some guy did a study with monkeys or something and found it could extend your life by a couple years and create better health quality.

ps. you might be using a way too high nicotine content vapster, the high nicotine could cause your vessels to constrict too tightly for too long and maybe thats why you got the red eye. also when I was younger and stupid i would inhale two swisher sweets right after the other and get a massive headache and pass out on my bed.

Id be careful you dont want to over do it.

as they say on all the sites you order from "nicotine is a poison"

I have only been vaping for about a week, and have been still smoking 3 analogs a day, and I already noticed a couple days in my night time smokers cough went away, and I don't wake up with a sore throat in the morning. Ahhh sleep is wonderful when you don't have a cough keeping you up while trying to fall asleep. I had a relapse though on Saturday when I went to a party and it turned out everyone were smokers, watching everyone lighting up constantly made me want a real cigarette, and I think I burned through half a pack in one evening. I regretted it that night when my smokers cough was back full fledge, never again. On a side note, anyone notice how analogs taste nasty but you still want to smoke them because they give you something vaping can't? It's terrible, I was telling my husband last night "this tastes so bad, but feals so good". I hope I get to a point where I don't want them at all anymore.

I think most of the "effects" people are experiencing are just withdraw from analogs. I'm almost positive, because I've quit for extended periods of time before and it felt exactly like it has the past two months. But to answer your question, yeah. I'm almost at the two month point, and it feels exactly like it did when I was at this point with swedish snus. Energy is back. Breathing is better. Food tastes better, I can SMELL again. I can leap tall buildings without having a heart attack. Just like being a non-smoker. If anything, it's *slightly* better than it was on snus but I attribute that more to the fact that when I quit with snus I had been smoking Marlboro Reds for four years. When I quit with e-cigs, I had been smoking American Spirit (no additives) for about 6 months.

Jim.....I agree except my hair seems to be growing quicker...unfortunatly it is coming out of my nose!:)The Wiz!

a month after I quit smoking I went for a jog with my fat black lab who I've neglected exercising with and I wasn't nearly as out of breath as I was before when I did smoke. Not saying I'm not out of shape and I wasn't hurting after, but it was a lot less painful than it would have been if I didn't quit.
Never had much of a problem with coughing or hacking anything up and I still haven't since I quit, don't know what happened, maybe it's not hacking out because of those left handed cigarettes I occasionally smoke. I'm not complaining I don't want to hack a bunch of stuff up but it never happened to me. And I must say I started smoking when I was 10, was smoking a pack a day since I was 14, and I'm 26 now...

I have noticed something since I started vaping about a month ago. I have had trouble with dry skin for years, and the glycerin and/or pg that I'm inhaling seem to have served as a moisturizer. Please excuse the candidness, but I notice my perspiration is kind of 'sticky' as well.

Earlier in this string someone referred to Peg, seemingly as an alternative to glycering and pg. What is Peg?

Thanks.

I've been smoke-free for 8 months now (jipee!!), it was high time at an age of 49 and after over 33 years of heavy smoking (nearly 60/day). On top of all positive influences are the better breathing, tasting/smelling and better condition. I think we all have quite equal developments. Besides feeling better I still couldn't reduce nic level (started with med, tried low with none, nogo yet, returned to med).
