Anyone have pics of how to refill cartomizer safely?

Noob doesn't want to be killed by nicotine getting on my skin and old computer can't view all those great sounding movies on YouTube everyone is raving about. With my VK510-3pc set there is a no brainer on staying safe, but the cartomizer is a different story since I have no ideal how to safely master taking it apart which is the best way to go.

I'm guessing by some posts you want to stop using them before they become dry or have a burnt taste, so I have a few setting waiting to be filled.

Just a run down on the steps would help since I haven't found them listed anywhere. If you know of a link that has it that is still working just point me in the right direction. Some steps I have picked up from reading posts, but some are missing like do you put the plug and cap on the battery end before taking the mouth end off? I have the notes I compiled if you want me to post them and you just point out anything that is missing. Will do that tomorrow if anyone asks that it be done.

More noob questions:
When it comes to safely washing/filling carts or even doing the DIY thing would it be best to wear surgical gloves to keep any from accidentially getting on your skin. I know you should wash it off if it happens, but would such gloves give you an extra layer of protection while handling this stuff? Yes I dipped dogs in tubs for fleas and have sprayed chemicals, and after surviving all of that I sure would hate to subcome to a drop of nicotine .

Now for those who have been unfortunate to spend a week without power and no other source close enough to charge those cells, how do you get your batteries charged to vape? Only happened to me once in the winter about 10 years back, but I've heard of those in the city even getting the power knocked off for days due to storms. I'd be able to get a little power off my computer backup system, past that it would take runing the car just to charge batts or vape, I can see it now-a really long extension cord going to the car to run the PT off of-add that to my shopping list LOL. So have any of you been in this situation or thought of what to do if you get in it?

I wasn't to impressed with the batteries putting out on the VK 510 3pc set (my first e-cig), but loved it's battery backup PT and ease of filling carts. Come to find out the batteries did work better with your juice. If the cartomizers end up being not very messy or hard to fill I'll be looking into your new manuel that will last all day long -bet it won't last all day for me. Need to hold off a while & just buy juice until I get caught up in unexpected vet bills and finally paying to get 2 mowers fixed (spent a year of weed eating the yard down-no fun since we have had a lot of rain this year LOL).

I will try to help with some written directions since you can't view the videos, and I am sure others will come along.


Refilling a cartomizer:

1. Take the cartomizer off of the battery and insert the plug piece. Some also put on an end cap condom for stability while working.
2. Hold the cartomizer with your non primary hand. Use a dental hook or other strong metal hook to insert into the mouthpiece end. You can either brute force it here (yank hard as heck) or you can gently pry going around in circles to loosen all the edges.
3. Remove both the plastic cap and the inner "o" ring. At this point you should be able to see the batting and the metal piece that is hooked into it.
4. Hold the empty cartomizer with the open end toward you at a slight angle and drip 10-20 drops into the batting (I let it run down the side). The drop variation is significant because all juices have different thicknesses and different bottle drip larger or smaller drops.
5. If you have a small white section left unsaturated you can add one or two more drops to that side.
6. If you have pooling above the batting you can try the plunger method. Take one of the round condoms that comes with each cartomizer and place it over the still open mouthpiece end. Slide it down about half way and place your fingers underneath the edge to hold it in place and keep it from slipping when you "plunge." Use your other hand to gently plunge the condom up and down, this will shove juice further down into the batting and help clear out any that spilled in the center tube. If you still have pooling, twist up a Kleenex and mop out the juice.
7. Put the "o" ring back in so it is flush with the top of the mouthpiece end. Put the white cap back on (this will push down the o ring to the right position)
8. Remove the plug from the battery end.
9. You can use it now or save it for later. If you save it, just keep the plug in place and condom both ends (will keep the batting moist longer)

I wouldn't be THAT worried about the juice, i mean i wouldn't take a bath in it but a little getting on your fingers isn't going to kill you.

As far as what I'd do if there were the possibility of being without power for a while, keep a couple 12v deep cycle batteries charged up and get an adapter.

Nicotine handling...there are tons of threads out there about this so I won't rehash. The opinions on how careful you need to be vary by individual with some just whiping off juice if they spill anything, and other wearing gloves, aprons, and goggles.

Power through blackouts. I have several car adapter chargers that I can use in a pinch. I also purchased some battery back up USB chargers. You can get some pretty heavy duty chargers made for powering things as small as an iPod or as large as a laptop! Amazon has a decent selection. I personally bought a couple of these, not because I worry about power, rather because I want to take my passthrough everywhere I go and this device works for that. But it would work in you situation as well.

Yeah I wouldn't be too worried about it. I spilled 1/2 a bottle last night when I didn't notice the dropper came off with the lid. Just don't lick your fingers and wash up when your done.

JenJen, LOL I was a blonde until I turned 5 and then it went south to brown. Really do wish I could view the videos-seeing is really figuring it out, but I'm a dino in more ways than one.

Phoenix, now that is exactly what I needed-great steps. Now all I need is the brute strength and be able to find a dentist pick I have. Seems like I did have how to do most of it except the very beginning and end and probably not organized right.

shall yeah that 0 nicotine won't hurt ya at all )). Def know how it goes, been there and done that trying to fill ink carts when I was too tired to do it but needed a print. At least with this unless you do get sick or tell the tale no one would know, inked up hands tell the tale for ya.

Had a 12v deep cycle battery I didn't keep charged up and it's just a dead weight now. Trying to get adapters for it though.

I imagine the warnings really apply greater to the pure strenghts rather than pre-mixed juices and I use to be pretty immune to the effects of things. Yes even 1 aspirin has been known to be able to kill certain people and the list of the side effects are amazing since few ever have any. I've gone both ways in life working at various manufacturing plants and around chemicals, underprotected (most of the time and my hands show it) and overprotected. Now I play life on a safer side since a lot of animals depend on me and there is no one else to take care of them if I mess up.

Phoenix again your such a help. I have been looking into external portable battery packs, but after the VP PT didn't work on the AC>USB adapter I've gone back to fine tuning the details of what is needed which many seem to leave off on their packaging and at their sites. And I was doing it for the same reason as you, portable PT which would be easier to use when out feeding or working in the yard.
Most seem to think it's best to have nothing less than 5.0v and 1000ma or 1.0amp.
Kensington caught my eye because someone said it came in a light blue, but some one else pointed out it was only 1800 mah and a USB 2.0 Battery Pack & Charger had the same specs but was 3000mah so it would last twice as long. I'm also looking at one that is a AC-DC-USB Power Supply_Rocketfish but have to download it's product manuel to see the specs plus find out how valueable they think it really is. Like you I'll end up with getting 2, just wish it was for the price of 1 though-good ole days. Prob get one like you got and then maybe the AC-DC-USB if it's not overpriced later when I start saving money by not buying analogs.
