My son soooo badly wants to play this game, he watches videos of it - but we have windows xp and apparently that is not new enough for the game to work on....

Actually it works fine under XP as long as your machine isn't too old. If have the latest version of Java VM, 2GB RAM and something better than integrated graphics then it will run fine. Just tweak the graphic settings to low detail and it will run smoothly. Give it a shot!

Actually, we just had to get a new computer. That one was going on 10 yrs old and broke down. I got a refurbished dell for a good price. It has 2 gb of ram and can go up to 8 gb. I am wondering if I can put in a stick of ram from the old tower into it to add more ram? It has a very big harddrive, but I am concerned about the video card. I think it will probably work but it could be laggy. Do you think it will be laggy with this video card? Tommorow is my son's bday so we are considering purchasing Minecraft tonite or tommorow for him.

Vid card: Nvidia GEforce 6150 le

Also we have this processor: AMD Athlon Dual Coil Processor 4450b 2.30 ghz
system type: 32 bit

Thanks for any advice you may have!

If we DO have to get a new video card, we can't afford an expensive one...

It might lag a bit since it's integrated graphics but if you set Minecraft's gfx quality to 'low', the render distance to 'tiny', etc it should run smoothly enough.

Do make sure you are running the latest version of Java and the latest gfx driver for your card.

You can get cheap dedicated gfx cards off eBay these days, don't worry. :)
