With my small electronics knowledge i would suspect that it should not heat up in the same manner as the kanthal wire. Would keep things a little cooler where the heat is not needed and all the heat is concerntrated in the coil? If anybody else knows better please chime in.[/QUOT

That makes perfect sense really,

On thinking about it, The legs on the ithaka and oddyseus are longer, than say the protank,or evod.

And where them long legs run, down the side of the ceramic, you don`t want any heat there. Yep got it cheers paul.

You're right Paul, it is to do with heat build up. But also the no res legs don't increase the resistance, so you can wrap micro-coils in kanthal - say 10 or more coils add no res legs and still get a decent resistance. If you did a full coil and legs in kanthal the resistance would be sky high on the ithaka.
By the way, that's just something I've read. I'm not really that clued up on no res/res wire

Ian been trawling the web today looking at capacitor discharge welders, finally i decided it would be easier just to tie the dam things as can't be a***d to add yet another project to my list.

I also pulled the glass fuel filter i bought a whle ago to see how i need to machine it and turn it into a new tank. I should be able to get two out of by the time i split the glass tube into teo sections :)

Also some new bats turned up today (2 x 18350), seem to last longer than the only 18650 i have?

I'm all for the easy way of doing things Paul. A couple of vids that I've seen just show the wires being tied, looks like a plate of spaghetti in the german vid I saw
Do you do a bit of welding then ? I've done a bit of mig welding in my time - used to have a garage a few years back, I've always fancied having a go at tig welding though.
Is it a full machine shop you've got - lathes, milling gear etc ?
I reckon Terry's staying away tonight, cos he doesn't want to spend any money

Its all good stuff. I am currently dripping Traditional tobacco (Liqua) It really tastes like golden virginia, which i used to smoke.

I have just been watching todds review on you tube the ithaka clone. They do look very good, and i have made my mind up now. gonna sack the oddyseus and x9 tanks, and get one of them babies.
